        Effects of polytrimethylene terephthalate on crystallization and melting behavior of beta-polypropylene in the blends

        It has been observed that the formation of b-crystal is suppressed when b-polypropylene (b-PP) is blended with crystalline polymers, but the reason is still uncertain. In this study, we investigated the influence of the crystallization conditions of polytrimethylene terephthalate (PTT), such as melt crystallization, cold crystallization, isothermal crystallization temperature, and crystallization time on the b-nucleation behavior of PP phase in the b-PP/PTT blends. The results showed that the b-crystal content of PP phase in the blends decreases with increasing of PTT content. Cold crystallization of PTT would mainly induce the formation of a-crystal in PP component, whereas melt crystallization would induce the formation of b-crystal PP in their blends. The degree of crystallinity of PTT increases by improving the crystallization temperature or extending the time of crystallization, which leads to the production of more a-crystal in PP component. This means that the second component could inhibit the formation of b-crystal in PP.

        Crystallization and melting behavior of polypropylene in b-PP/polyamide 6 blends containing PP-g-MA

        In this research, we used a twin-screw extruder to melt and blend PP-g-MA compatibilizer with bpolypropylene (PP)/polyamide 6 (PA6). The influences of the PA6 and PP-g-MA contents in PP/PA6 blends on crystallization and melting behavior of PP phase and morphology were investigated. The results showed that, when PP-g-MA copolymer was added to the b form of nucleated PP/PA6 blends, the anhydride groups in PP-g-MA and PA6 terminal amine groups react to form PP-g-PA graft copolymer in a two-phase interface. This reduces the interfacial tension, improves the interfacial adhesion, and reduces the size of PA6 domains in the blend. The generated PP-g-PA graft copolymer wrapped PA6 phase and buried the anhydride groups of PP-g-MA. When the proportion of PP-g-MA and PA6 was between 0.5 and 0.75, there was no longer interfering to the formation of b-crystals in the PP phase. The content of bcrystal of PP phase in blends was found to reach as large as 85.9%.

        From WiFi to WiMAX: Efficient GPU-based Parameterized Transceiver across Different OFDM Protocols

        Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) has become a popular modulation scheme for wireless protocols because of its spectral efficiency and robustness against multipath interference. Although the components of various OFDM protocols are functionally similar, they remain distinct because of the characteristics of the environment. Recently, graphics processing units (GPUs) have been used to accelerate the signal processing of the physical layer (PHY) because of their great computational power, high development efficiency, and flexibility. In this paper, we describe the implementation of parameterized baseband modules using GPUs for two different OFDM protocols, namely, 802.11a and 802.16. First, we introduce various modules in the modulator/demodulator parts of the transmitter and receiver and analyze the computational complexity of each module. We then describe the integration of the GPU-based baseband modules of the two protocols using the parameterized method. GPU-based implementations are addressed to explain how to accelerate the baseband processing to archive real-time throughput. Finally, the performance results of each signal processing module are evaluated and analyzed. The experiments show that the GPU-based 802.11a and 802.16 PHY meet the real-time requirement and demonstrate good bit error ratio (BER) performance. The performance comparison indicates that our GPU-based implemented modules have better flexibility and throughput to the current ones.

        Highly efficient and ultra-rapid adsorption of malachite green by recyclable crab shell biochar

        In this study, waste crab shell was hydrothermally carbonized and then activated to prepare an effectiveand recyclable adsorbent. The adsorption performance of the adsorbent for different dyes was investigatedthrough adsorption experiments, and the results showed that it had the largest adsorption performancefor malachite green. Furthermore, the adsorption performance and mechanism of malachite greenwere investigated by static and dynamic adsorption method. The crab shell biochar could remove6142.5 mg g1 of malachite green within 3 minutes, indicating that the crab shell biochar could ultrarapidand highly efficient adsorb malachite green. In addition, the malachite green adsorbed on the crabshell biochar could be removed by calcination, which achieved the entire regeneration of the crab shellbiochar. The adsorption of malachite green by crab shell biochar adsorbent conformed to the pseudosecond-order kinetic model, the Dubinin-Radushkevich and Langmuir isotherm adsorption model. Physical and chemical characterization indicated that the adsorption mechanism of malachite greenincluded alkaline fading effect, hydrogen bonding and p-p interaction.
