        Cytochrome P450 2E1 Activity in a Korean Population

        <P> Cytochrome P450 2E1 (CYP2E1) is involved in the toxicity and carcinogenicity of a number of solvents and xenobiotics. Like the various types of oxidation pharmacogenetics, the activity of the enzyme shows a discernible interindividual and interethnic variation. However, no pharmacogenetic information on CYP2E1 polymorphism has been available from a Korean population. The aim of this study was to explore the pharmacogenetics of CYP2E1 polymorphism in a native Koreans after an oral 400 mg dose of chlorzoxazone administered to 128 subjects. Urine samples were collected during the subsequent 8-hour period and urinary concentrations of chlorzoxazone and 6-hydroxychlorzoxazone were determined by a high performance liquid chromatography with an ultraviolet detector. The limit of detection in the samples was found to be 0.5 μg/ml. The mean value of the 6-hydroxychlorzoxazone excreted in 8 hr urine expressed as the percentage was 48.2 13.8%. The frequency distribution of percentage of the administered dose excreted as the 6-hydroxy metabolite was unimodally distributed in the subjects studied. However, the values showed wide (7-fold) interindividual difference, ranged from 11.6% to 79.8% of the dose of chlorzoxazone. Thus, it was considered that the pharmacogenetic characteristics of CYP2E1 in a Korean population did not represent multimodal distribution in the 6-hydroxychlorzoxazone excreted in 8-hr urine expressed as the percentage. And the activity of the CYP2E1 in a Korean population seemed to be less compared with that of the Caucasian subjects.

        Stationary Distribution for the Mobilities in Catastrophe Rescue Scenario

        Mobility Model has drawn more and more attentions since its critical role in Mobile Wireless Networks performance evaluation. This paper analyzes the mobility patterns in the catastrophe rescue scenario, and proposes the Random Waypoint with Base Point mobility model to model these characteristics. We mathematically analyze the speed and spatial stationary distributions of the nodes and derive explicit expressions for the one dimensional case. In order to keep the stationary distribution through the entire simulation procedure, we provide strategies to initialize the speed, location and destination of the nodes at the beginning of the simulation. The simulation results verify the derivations and the proposed methods in this paper. This work gives a deep understanding of the properties of the Random Waypoint with Base Point mobility model and such understanding is necessary to avoid misinterpretation of the simulation results. The conclusions are of practical value for performance analysis of mobile wireless networks, especially for the catastrophe rescue scenario.

        Eccrine spiradenoma is a txnign, painful tumor of the skin, which probably originates in the coil of the eccrine sweat glands and presents a characteristic clinical and pa.hological picture. However recently, the weakness and inconsistency of the enzymes histochemican, actions and electron microscopic findings, and the presence of numerous undifferentiated and indetirn, inate cells suggest a rather low degree of differentiation. We present herein four cases of eccrine spiradenoma which show livrse histopat.hologic characteristics including typical rosette-like structure, ductal structure, vacuar structure and mixed type, respectively. This report may support the premise that eccrine spiridinoma is defived not only from the eccrine duct but also from pluripotential stem cells. (Kor J Dermatol 995; 33<1): 140-144)

        Enhanced thermoelectric performance of Cu3SbSe4 doped with alkali-ion (Na and K)

        The thermoelectric properties of alkali-ion-doped compounds Cu 3 Sb 1− x M x Se 4 (M = Na and K) prepared by mechanicalalloying and spark plasma sintering compaction, are investigated systematically between 300 K and 673 K. The increase inthe hole carrier concentration causes a reduction in the electrical resistivity in the whole temperature range and a rise in thepower factor at elevated temperature for alkali-ion-doped compounds as compared to pristine Cu 3 SbSe 4 . For example, themaximum power factors for Cu 3 Sb 1− x Na x Se 4 ( x = 0.02 and 0.03) and Cu 3 Sb 0.99 K 0.01 Se 4 at 673 K are all increased by around1.6 times compared to the un-doped sample. As a result, the peak ZT value reaches 0.52 and 0.71 at 673 K for Cu 3 Sb 1− x Na x Se 4( x = 0.02 and 0.03) and Cu 3 Sb 0.99 K 0.01 Se 4 , which is 27% and 73% larger than that (0.41) of the un-doped sample, respectively. In this work, K-doping is more eff ective in improving thermoelectric performance of Cu 3 SbSe 4 , due to its larger ionic radius,which can bring more lattice distortions and point defects to scatter phonons than Na-doping.

        Closed Walk Ferry Route Design for Wireless Sensor Networks

        Message ferry is a controllable mobile node with large capacity and rechargeable energy to collect information from the sensors to the sink in wireless sensor networks. In the existing works, route of the message ferry is often designed from the solutions of the Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) and its variants. In such solutions, the ferry route is often a simple cycle, which starts from the sink, access all the sensors exactly once and moves back to the sink. In this paper, we consider a different case, where the ferry route is a closed walk that contains more than one simple cycle. This problem is defined as the Closed Walk Ferry Route Design (CWFRD) problem in this paper, which is an optimization problem aiming to minimize the average weighted delay. The CWFRD problem is proved to be NP-hard, and the Integer Linear Programming (ILP) formulation is given. Furthermore, a heuristic scheme, namely the Initialization-Split-Optimization (ISO) scheme is proposed to construct closed walk routes for the ferry. The experimental results show that the ISO algorithm proposed in this paper can effectively reduce the average weighted delay compared to the existing simple cycle based scheme.

        Lichen nitidus, characterized by its typical clinical and histopathologic findings, is an uncomrnon chronic dermatosis of unknowned etiology. The distribution of this disease is most often localized, but in some cases it may becorne generalized. Some authors suggested that lichen nitidus is a variant of lichen planus in terms of its coincidence, ultrastructural and immunophenot,ypic studies. We report herein a case of lichen nitidus which presents dark brown linear, grouped, or confluent papules on the face, cheat, and upper extremities, accompanying with the histopathologic findings of pigmentary incontirence in the portion of claw clutching a ball appearance. This report suggests that lichen nitidus shows hyperpigmentation clinically and could be one of the dermatoses which exhibit pigmentavy incontinence in a histopathologic study.         A rule-based classifier ensemble for fault diagnosis of rotating machinery

        To predict potential problems and avoid an unexpected breakdown of rotating machinery, a rule-based classifier ensemble approach is presented. Feature reduction was first implemented on a fault decision table using discernibility matrices and the genetic algorithm. The generated rules of the reducts were used to build the candidate base classifiers. Then, several base classifiers were selected according to their diversity and scale. The weights of the selected base classifiers were also calculated based on the support rate measurements. A classifier ensemble was constructed through an integration of the base classifiers using an improved weighted voting technique. Finally, the proposed classifier ensemble was verified based on the vibration data of bearing types SKF6203 and NU205. The accuracy for the SKF6203 bearing type reached 88.75 %, which is at least 5 % higher than that of the three base classifiers for this type of bearing. In addition, the recognition rate for the latter bearing type was 90 %. The reasoning process was much easier to comprehend owing to the semantic descriptions of the rules. The results show that this is a promising and transparent approach for diagnosing typical faults of rotating machinery.
