        韓國에서 츄잔病의 發生 및 binary ethylenimine 不活化 츄잔바이러스 豫防藥의 소에서의 免疫原性 試驗

        Chuzan disease of which the main clinical abnormalities were impairment of mobility and nervous signs took place in a calf breeding farm in Cheju province during the period of March, 1993. The serological survey indicated that antibody to Chuzan virus was present at a high rate in Cheju province, while it was at a low rate in the Honam area of the mainland. The retrospective sero-epidemiological investigations strongly suggested that Chuzan virus comes to Korea from the Southeast Asian countries and the first outbreak of Korea is simultaneous with that of Japan. A preliminary study for development of an inactivated Chuzan virus vaccine was performed. The binary ethylenimine treated-tissue culture fluid with a gel adjuvant had good immunogenicity in cattle. To control this disease in Korea, an inactivated Chuzan virus vaccine is scheduled for practical use in the field in the near future.

        Surgical Outcomes after Traumatic Vertebral Fractures in Patients with Ankylosing Spondylitis

        Objective : Ankylosing spondylitis is an inflammatory rheumatic disease mainly affecting the axial skeleton. The rigid spine may secondarily develop osteoporosis, further increasing the risk of spinal fracture. In this study, we reviewed fractures in patients with ankylosing spondylitis that had been clinically diagnosed to better define the mechanism of injury, associated neurological deficit, predisposing factors, and management strategies. Methods : Between January 2003 and December 2013, 12 patients with 13 fractures with neurological complications were treated. Neuroimaging evaluation was obtained in all patients by using plain radiography, CT scan, and MR imaging. The ASIA Impairment Scale was used in order to evaluate the neurologic status of the patients. Management was based on the presence or absence of spinal instability. Results : A total of 9 cervical and 4 thoracolumbar fractures were identified in a review of patients in whom ankylosing spondylitis had been diagnosed. Of these, 7 fractures were associated with a hyperextension mechanism. 10 cases resulted in a fracture by minor trauma. Posttraumatic neurological deficits were demonstrated in 11 cases and neurological improvement after surgery was observed in 5 of these cases. Conclusions : Patients with ankylosing spondylitis are highly susceptible to spinal fracture and spinal cord injury even after only mild trauma. Initial CT or MR imaging of the whole spine is recommended even if the patient's symptoms are mild. The patient should also have early surgical stabilization to correct spinal deformity and avoid worsening of the patient's neurological status.

        Sulforaphane Decrease of SERTAD1 Expression Triggers G1/S Arrest in Breast Cancer Cells

        Studies have identified the potential of chemopreventive effects of sulforaphane (SFN); however, the underlying mechanisms of its effect on breast cancer require further elucidation. This study investigated the anticancer effects of SFN that specifically induces G1/S arrest in breast ductal carcinoma (ZR-75-1) cells. The proliferation of the cancer cells after treatment with SFN was detected by 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay. DNA content and cell cycle status were analyzed through flow cytometry. Our results demonstrated the inhibition of growth in ZR-75-1 cells upon SFN exposure. In addition, SERTAD1 (SEI-1) caused the accumulation of SFN-treated G1/S-phase cells. The downregulation of SEI-1, cyclin D2, and histone deacetylase 3 suggested that in addition to the identified effects of SFN against breast cancer prevention, it may also exert antitumor activities in established breast cancer cells. In conclusion, SFN can inhibit growth of and induce cell cycle arrest in cancer cells, suggesting its potential role as an anticancer agent.

      • Diaphragm Ultrasound is an Image Biomarker of AECOPD

        Background The importance of evaluating the diaphragm muscle in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is widely accepted. However, the role of diaphragm ultrasound (DUS) in COPD patients is not fully understood. Methods COPD patients who underwent DUS were enrolled between March 2020 and November 2020. The diaphragm thickening fraction (TFmax) and diaphragm excursion (DEmax) during maximal deep breathing were measured. Patients were divided into exacerbation and stable groups. Demographics, lung function, and DUS findings were compared between stable and exacerbation groups. Results Fifty-five patients were enrolled. The exacerbation group had a lower body mass index (BMI) (20.9 vs. 24.2, p < 0.01), lower TFmax (94.8 ± 8.2% vs. 158.4 ± 83.5%, p = 0.01), and lower DEmax (30.8 ± 11.1 mm vs. 40.5 ± 12.5 mm, p < 0.01) compared to stable group. The patients were divided into low and high TFmax and DEmax groups based on calculated TFmax and DEmax cut-off values. Low TFmax (odds ratio [OR] 8.4; 95% confidence interval [CI] 1.6-45.6) and low DEmax (OR 11.5; 95% CI 1.2-115.6) were associated with AECOPD after adjusting for age, sex, BMI, and forced expiratory volume in 1 sec (Figure 1). Conclusion Diaphragm Ultrasound findings, such as TFmax and DEmax, distinguished exacerbation from stable COPD status.

        Yellow Spray Rose Cultivar ‘ Egg Tart ’ with High Productivity and Suitable for Export

        수출용 스프레이 장미 신품종을 육성하기 위해 경남농업기술원 화훼연구소에서 2012년 분홍색 스프레이 장미 ‘Pink Sensation’을 모본으로, 오렌지색 스프레이 장미 ‘Orange Jam’ 을 부분으로 하여 잿빛곰팡이병 민감성이 약하고 수송성과 생산성이 좋은 황색 스프레이 장미 ‘Egg Tart’를 육성하였다(품종보호 제7791호). ‘Egg Tart’의 화형은 불규칙한 원형이고, 잎색은 짙은 녹색으로 광택이 강하였으며, 잎 수는 15매, 잎의 길이는 12.3cm로 대조품종 ‘Yellow Tea’에 비해 작았다. 잎의 형태적인 면에서 대조품종과 뚜렷한 차이를 보였는데 ‘Egg Tart’는 소엽 가장자리의 물결모양이 크지 않고 정단부 소엽이 좁은 타원형이었으며, 특히 정부의 모양은 매우 뾰족한 형태를 보였다. ‘Egg Tart’의 절화수량은 152본(㎡/년), 절화장은 78cm, 꽃잎수는 78.8매, 절화수명은 14.4일로 길어 스프레이 절화장미로서 대조품종 ‘Yellow Tea’보다 우수하였다. ‘Egg Tart’의 수출품종으로서 가능성을 확인하기 위해 같은 황색 품종인 ‘Yellow Babe’와 함께 장미 수출업체 재배온실에서 2017 년부터 3년간 실증재배를 하였고 생산된 절화는 내수시장과 일본 수출 시장에 출하하였다. 시험 결과 절화수량과 소화수는 두 품종간 차이가 없었으나 절화길이와 꽃 직경의 크기는 ‘Egg Tart’가 컸으며, 시장 가격도 내수시장과 일본 시장이 각각 송이당 845원, 758원으로 ‘Yellow Babe’ 보다 높았다. ‘Egg Tart’의 잿빛곰팡이병에 대한 민감성을 확인하기 위해 인위적으로 잿빛곰팡이병 균주를 접종하여 병 발생 및 확산 정도를 조사한 결과 대조품종인 ‘Yellow Babe’는 병원균 접종 후 1일 부터 감염이 되었으나 ‘Egg Tart’는 2일부터 감염되었고, 접종 후 4일에 ‘Yellow Babe’는 100% 감염되었지만, ‘Egg Tart’는 38.9%로 대조품종에 비해 상대적으로 감염이 적고 확산 속도도 느렸다. 이상의 결과를 종합해볼 때 황색 스프레이 장미 ‘Egg Tart’는 기존 수출품종 ‘Yellow Babe’를 대체 가능한 품종으로 판단된다. The yellow spray rose cultivar ‘Egg Tart’ was bred by crossing the pink spray rose cultivar ‘Pink Sensation’ and the yellow spray rose cultivar ‘Orange Jam’ in 2012 at the Flower Research Institute of Gyeongnam Agricultural Research and Extension Services for cut flower exports. ‘Egg Tart’ has a weak sensibility for Botrytis cinerea, good transportability and good productivity (registration number: 7791). The flower shape of ‘Egg Tart’ was irregular. The leaf was thick with a strong gloss. There were 15 leaves per stem, and the leaf length was 12.3 cm, which was smaller than the control variety, ‘Yellow Tea’. Morphologically, ‘Egg Tart’ leaves were not as large in the wave shape of the edge of the leaf, and there was a small oval in the front end of the leaf that was narrow, as compared to the control cultivar. The cut flower yield of ‘Egg Tart’ was 152 stems (m2/year). The cut flower length was 78 cm, with a petal number of 78.8, and a vase life of 14.4 days, which was superior to the control variety. In order to confirm the possibility of ‘Egg Tart’ as an export variety, field demonstration tests have been conducted with the same yellow variety ‘Yellow Babe’ in the rose exporter’s greenhouse for three years starting in 2017, and the cut f lowers produced were shipped to the domestic and Japanese market. The results of the test showed that cut flower yields and flower numbers per stem were not different between the two varieties, but cut flower length, flower diameter and market price of ‘Egg Tart’ were higher than ‘Yellow Babe’. The domestic and Japanese market price were 845 won and 758 won per stem, respectively. In order to confirm the sensitivity of ‘Egg Tart’ against gray mold, artificially inoculated Botrytis cinerea were examined to investigate the incidence and spread of the disease. As a result, ‘Yellow Babe’, a control variety, was confirmed to be infected from the first day after inoculation with the pathogens, but ‘Egg Tart’ was infected from the second day. On the fourth day after inoculation, ‘Yellow Babe’ was 100% infected, but ‘Egg Tart’ was only 38.9% infected. In conclusion, the yellow spray rose ‘Egg Tart’ could be used as a substitute for the existing export variety ‘Yellow Babe’.

        Electrical Measurements of an AlGaN/GaN High-electron-mobility Transistor Structure Grown on Si

        We report on magnetotransport results for an Al<sub>0.15</sub>Ga<sub>0.85</sub>N/GaN high-electron-mobility-transistor structure grown on a p-type Si (111) substrate. Our results show that there exists an approximately temperature (<i>T</i>)-independent point, which could be ascribed to a direct transition from a weak insulator to a high Landau level filling factor quantum Hall state, exists in the longitudinal resistivity ρ<sub>xx</sub>. The Hall resistivity decreases with increasing <i>T</i>, compelling experimental evidence for electron-electron interaction effects in a weakly-disordered two-dimensional (2D) system. We find that electron-electron interaction effects can be estimated and eliminated, giving rise to a corrected nominally temperature-independent Hall slope. By fitting the low-field magnetotransport data to conventional 2D weak localization theory, we find that the dephasing rate 1/τ<sub>φ</sub> is proportional to <i>T</i>. Moreover, 1/τ<sub>φ</sub> is finite as <i>T</i> → 0, evidence for zero-temperature dephasing in our system.

        GA₃ 처리 농도와 시기가 스타티스 ‘오션 블루’의 개화와 절화수량에 미치는 영향

        본 연구는 스타티스 평난지 재배에서 생육불량, 수량감소, 출하기 조절 등의 문제점을 해결하기 위해 GA₃ 처리기술을 개발하고, 이들의 처리가 개화와 절화수량에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. GA₃ 처리 농도별 효과는 하계재배(0, 100, 200, 400, 800㎎ㆍL?¹)와 촉성재배(0, 100, 200, 400㎎ㆍL?¹) 나누었고, 처리시기별 효과는 정식(0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50일 후) 후와 육묘기간(3, 5, 7, 9주)으로 나누어 스타티스의 개화와 절화수량에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 그 결과 스타티스는 재배시기에 관계없이 GA₃ 처리에 의해 개화가 촉진되었다. 하계재배에서는 200~400㎎ㆍL?¹ 농도에서 절화품질 및 절화수량이 증가하는 효과가 있었으며, 겨울철의 촉성재배에서는 400㎎ㆍL?¹ 농도에서 효과가 좋았다. 처리 시기에 따른 정식 10일 후 GA₃ 처리가 개화촉진에 효과적이었으나, 절화의 품질을 고려한다면 정식 20일경에 GA₃ 처리를 하는 것이 가장 적당할 것으로 생각된다. 육묘기간을 달리하여 GA₃ 처리시 개화촉진에는 효과가 없었으나 육묘기간이 긴 9주 육묘구에서 절화품질이 좋았고 절화수량도 많았다. 이상의 결과를 종합하면 종간잡종 스타티스는 9주간 육묘한 스타티스를 정식 20일경에 재배시기와 관계없이 400㎎ㆍL?¹ 정도 처리했을 때 개회촉진과 절회수량 증진에 가장 효과적이었다. This study was carried out to investigate effect of GA₃ foliar application on the growth and flowering of Limonium spp. 'Ocean Blue' to develop an effective GA₃ treatment method for a year round commercial production. Plants were treated with different concentrations of GA₃ 0, 100, 200, 400, and 800 mg . L?¹ in summer, and 0, 100, 200, and 400 ㎎ : L?¹ in winter at seven weeks after transplanting. The effects of GA₃ treatment time (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 days after planting) and plant age (raising during 3, 5, 7, and 9 weeks) was investigated. The GA₃ treatment advanced bolting and flowering with little difference between the two seasons. In a summer culture the effective concentration of GA₃ ranged from 200 to 400 ㎎ L?¹, while in winter it was found to be 400 ㎎ : L?¹. The GA₃ treatment at 10 days after planting significantly reduced days to flowering. However, the greatest cut flower yield was observed in plants treated at 20 days after planting. The GA₃ treatment to different age plants did not show a significant effect, except in the oldest (nine weeks old plants). In conclusion, to induce early flowering in Limonium spp. 'Ocean Blue', the proper concentration and time of application of GA₃ was 400 ㎎ : L?¹ GA₃ treated to nine weeks old plants at 20 days after transplanting.

        Electron-Electron Interactions in a Two-Dimensional Electron Systemin an Al0.15Ga0.85N/GaN Heterostructure Grown on p-Type Si

        We report on experimental studies of an Al$_{0.15}$Ga$_{0.85}$N/GaN high-electron-mobility transistor structure grown on a $p$-type Si (111) substrate. This structure is compatible with complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor (CMOS) technology and, thus, has great potential device applications. The low-temperature magnetoresistivity shows a parabolic dependence on the applied perpendicular magnetic field. This effect is ascribed to electron-electron interaction (EEI) effects in a weakly-disordered two-dimensional system. Our experimental results agree with the EEI theory when the correction term in the ballistic region has been subtracted.
