Escherichia coli (E. coli) and Salmonella enterica (SE) infections in pigs are major source associated with enteric disease such as post weaning diarrhea. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of Pediococcus pentosaceus in weaned piglets challenged with pathogen bacteria. In Experiment.1 90 weaned piglets with initial body weights of 8.53 ± 0.34 kg were assigned to 15 treatments for 2 weeks. The experiments were conducted two trials in a 2 × 5 factorial arrangement of treatments consisting of two levels of challenge (challenge and non-challenge) with E. coli and SE, respectively and five levels of probiotics (Control, Lactobacillus plantarum [LA], Pediococcus pentosaceus SMFM2016-WK1 [38W], Pediococcus acidilactici K [PK], Lactobacillus reuteri PF30 [PF30]). In Experiment.2 a total of 30 weaned pigs (initial body weight of 9.84 ± 0.85 kg) were used in 4 weeks experiment. Pigs were allocated to 5 groups in a randomized complete way with 2 pens per group and 3 pigs per pen. Supplementation of LA and 38W improved (p < 0.05) growth performance, intestinal pathogen bacteria count, fecal noxious odor and diarrhea incidence. In conclusion, supplementation of 38W strains isolated from white kimchi can act as probiotics by inhibiting E. coli and SE.

The community structures of benthic macro-invertebrates and insects of reservoirs Jeongyang and Pakasil in Hapcheon-gun were studied. The surveyed sites were three streams and waterfronts of each lake. The Collection was performed from April to October of 2005. As a result, total macreo-invertebrates collected in the reservoir Jeongyang were 3 phyla, 4 classes, 12 orders, 29 families and 56 species. In insects, 12 orders, 71 families and 167 species were identified. Total macro-invertebrates collectd in the reservoir Paksil were 2 phyla, 3 classes, 8 orders, 19 families and 36 species. In insects, 11orders, 50 families and 137 species were identified.Dominant species of benthic macro-invertebrates and insects in reservoir Jeongyang were Chiromomus sp and Nysius plebejus respectively. Dominant species of benthic macro-invertebrates and insects in reservoir Paksil were Physella acuta and Nysius plebejus respectively. The total species richness and species diversity of benthic macro-invertebrates in the reservoir Jeongyang was 16.88 and 1.43 respectively. The total species richness and species diversidty of benthic macro-invertebrates in the reservoir Paksil was 12.12 and 1.10 respectively. The total species richness and species diversity of insects in the reservoir Jeongyang was 56.65 and 1.99 respectively. The total species richness and species diversity of benthic macro-invertebrates in the reservoir Paksil was 47.65. and 0.90 respectively.

The community structures of benthic macroinvertebrates and insects of reservoirs Yeoncho and Gucheon in Is. Geoje were studied. The surveyed sites were three streams and waterfronts each lake. The Collection was performed from May to October of 2004. As a result, total macroinvertabrates collected in the reservoir Yeoncho were 2 phyla, 2 classes, 8 orders, 15 families, 17 genera and 18 species. IN insects, 12 orders, 52 families, 89 genera and 95 species were identifies. Total macroinvertabrates collected in the reservoir Gucheon were 3 phyla, 4 classes, 10 orders, 15 families, 18 genera and 18 species. In insects, 8 orders, 45 families, 92 genera and 101 species were identified. Dominant species of benthic macroinvertebrates and insects in reservoir Yeoncho were Macrobrachium nipponense and Nysius(Nysius) plebejus respectively. The total species richness and species diversity of benthic macroinvertebrates in the reservoir Yeoncho was 32.78 and 1,77 respectively. The total species richness and species diversity of benthic macroinvertertebrates in the reservoir Gucheon was 36.48 and 1.88 respectively.
Metal-supported high crystalline Bi<sub>2</sub>Se<sub>3</sub> quintuple layers

<P>Atomically flat thin films of Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Se<SUB>3</SUB> were grown on Au(111) metal substrate using molecular beam epitaxy. Hexagonal atomic structures and quintuple layer steps were observed at the surfaces of grown films using scanning tunneling microscopy. Multiple sharp peaks from (003) family layers were characterized by x-ray diffraction measurements. The atomic stoichiometry of Bi and Se was considered using x-ray photoemission spectroscopy. Moiré patterns were obtained at the surfaces of one quintuple layer films due to lattice mismatch between Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Se<SUB>3</SUB> and Au. Our experiments suggest that Au is a reasonable material for electrodes in Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Se<SUB>3</SUB> devices. </P>

3차원 그래픽을 추상화 시켜서 표현하는 비실사(Non-Photorealistic Rendering) 기법은 실사기법에 비해 사용자와의 원활한 커뮤니케이션을 이끌어 낼 수 있다는 점에서 많은 주목을 받고 있다. 실루엣 에지 렌더링은 3차원 객체의 에지를 찾아내고 나타내는 것으로 비실사 기법의 기반을 이루는 연구이다. 실루엣 에지 렌더링은 실루엣 에지의 변형을 통해서 여러 가지 예술적 효과를 보여줄 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 다중 패스 텍스쳐링을 이용한 실루엣 에지 렌더링 기법과 ID 수묵 텍스쳐를 이용한 셰이딩을 제안하며 이를 사용하여 수묵담채화 기법의 효과를 보여준다. 다중 패스 텍스쳐링을 통한 실루엣 에지 렌더링 기법은 구현이 간단하고 여러 가지 응용이 가능하다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 이 변화된 기법을 통해서 사용자는 3차원 객체에 수묵화 기법을 다양하게 적용할 수 있게 된다.

3차원 그래픽을 추상화시켜서 표현하는 비실사(Non-Photorealistic Rendering) 기법은 실사기법에 비해 사용자와의 원활한 커뮤니케이션을 이끌어 낼 수 있고 다양한 예술적 효과를 표현할 수 있다는 점에서 주목을 받고 있다. 지금까지 비실사 기법에 관한 연구는 서양적 미술 기법에 중점을 두고 연구되어 왔으나, 최근 한국적인 미술 기법인 수묵화 기법을 적용한 연구에 관심이 높아지고 있다. 기존의 서양적 비실사 기법에서는 프리폼 스케치 알고리즘에 관한 연구가 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 사용자는 이를 이용해 마우스나 펜의 조작만으로 쉽게 모델을 제작할 수 있고 다양한 렌더링 기법을 직접 적용해볼 수 있다. 반면에, 동양적 비실사 기법에서는 프리폼 스케치 알고리즘에 관한 연구가 부족하기 때문에 동양적 비실사 기법에 적합한 모델을 생성하기 어렵다. 이에 본 논문에서는 동양적 프리폼 스케치 알고리즘 연구에 대한 기초 연구로 2D스케치로부터 사군자 중 하나인 '蘭‘ 에 해당하는 3D 모델을 생성할 수 있는 알고리즘을 제안한다.

폐암의 심장 전이는 비특이적인 증상과 징후로 의심하지 않으면 임상적으로 발견하기가 쉽지 않다. 허혈성 심질환 때 생기는 심전도와 유사한 변화를 보이는 경우가 많고 실제 관상동맥에 문제가 동반되는 일도 있기 때문에 주의를 요한다. 폐암의 심근 전이로 인한 심전도 변화를 보인 환자를 경험하였기에 문헌고찰과 함께 보고하는 바이다. Metastatic tumors to the myocardium proper are uncommon and difficult to diagnose because they have nonspecific signs and symptoms. Electrocardiogram (ECG) changes mimicking ischemic heart disease often develop when non-conducting tumor tissue replaces cardiac muscle. Hence, a high level of suspicion is required to differentiate ECG changes caused by myocardial metastasis from those caused by coronary heart disease in cancer patients. We describe a case of primary lung cancer with myocardial metastasis that showed diffuse ST segment elevation and T wave inversion on the ECG, with a relevant literature review. Insulin prevents pulmonary vascular leakage by inhibiting transglutaminase 2 in diabetic mice

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P><B>Aims</B></P> <P>Insulin is a central peptide hormone required for carbohydrate metabolism; however, its role in diabetes-associated pulmonary disease is unknown. Here, we investigated the preventative effect of insulin against hyperglycemia-induced pulmonary vascular leakage and its molecular mechanism of action in the lungs of diabetic mice.</P> <P><B>Main methods</B></P> <P>Vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) activated transglutaminase 2 (TGase2) by sequentially elevating intracellular Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> and reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels in primary human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (HPMVECs).</P> <P><B>Key findings</B></P> <P>Insulin inhibited VEGF-induced TGase2 activation, but did not affect intracellular Ca<SUP>2+</SUP> elevation and ROS generation. Insulin prevented VEGF-induced vascular leakage by inhibiting TGase2-mediated c-Src phosphorylation, disassembly of VE-cadherin and β-catenin, and stress fiber formation. Insulin replacement therapy prevented hyperglycemia-induced TGase2 activation, but not ROS generation, in the lungs of diabetic mice. Insulin also prevented vascular leakage and cancer metastasis in the diabetic lung. Notably, vascular leakage was not detectable in the lungs of TGase2-null (<I>Tgm2</I> <SUP>−/−</SUP>) diabetic mice.</P> <P><B>Significance</B></P> <P>These findings demonstrate that insulin prevents hyperglycemia-induced pulmonary vascular leakage in diabetic mice by inhibiting VEGF-induced TGase2 activation rather than ROS generation.</P>

Purpose: To evaluate the clinical characteristics of intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric fractures associated with ipsilateral femoral shaft fractures and assess the surgical outcomes of a novel, closed intramedullary nailing surgical approach designed to minimize fixation failure. Materials and Methods: Between May 2013 and April 2017, 31 patients with intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric fractures associated with ipsilateral femoral shaft fractures treated with closed intramedullary nailing or long proximal femoral nail antirotation (PFNA) were enrolled in this study. Preoperative data included age, sex, injury severity score, body mass index, location of shaft fracture, injury mechanism, accompanying traumatic injury, walking ability before injury, and surgical timing. Perioperative outcomes, including follow-up period, types of intramedullary nails, number of blocking screws used, operation time, and blood loss were assessed. Radiologic outcomes, including union rate, time from surgery to union, and femoral shortening, and clinical outcomes, including hip flexion, walking ability, and Harris hip score were also evaluated. Results: A total of 29 unions (93.5%) were achieved. The time to union was 16.8 months (range, 11-25 months) for hip fractures (15.7 weeks for intertrochanteric fractures and 21.7 weeks for subtrochanteric fractures) and 22.8 months for femoral shaft fractures. There were no significant differences in surgical outcomes between the two groups except for type of intramedullary nail. Conclusion: Closed intramedullary nailing in the treatment of intertrochanteric or subtrochanteric fractures
