Assessing the Economic Impact of Covid-19 through a Counterfactual Analysis

The Covid-19 pandemic has caused unprecedented disruptions across industries worldwide. This paper aims to analyze the economic impact of the pandemic on the sales performance of basic commercial areas in Seoul, Korea. Using a regression analysis with credit card transaction data, the study underscores the critical nature of determining the reference point for comparison. Firstly, in comparison to the revenue in the same quarter before the onset of the pandemic, a significant decrease in revenue was observed across most categories during the pandemic periods. Secondly, when compared to the counterfactual revenue in the same period, extrapolated by an exponential smoothing forecasting, the overall revenue decrease during the periods was less pronounced, except in a few categories. Interestingly, certain categories appeared to witness marginal increases in sales after the pandemic. The paper discusses some policy implications of these findings.

주파수는 이동통신서비스를 위한 필수불가결한 생산요소로서, 주파수의 품질은 이동통신서비스의 품질을 좌우하고, 주파수획득 및 이용에 소요되는 비용은 서비스의 요금수준에 큰 영향을 준다. 따라서 그동안 성공적으로 구축한 모바일 선도국가의 위상을 지속하기 위해서는 양질의 주파수를 합리적인 가격으로 제공하는 것이 중요할 것이다. 본 연구에서는 이동통신용 주파수의 경매에서 기술의 광대역화 및 시장 수익성 변화에 대응하는 적절한 유보가격 수준을 정량적으로 탐구하고 있다. 국내외 사례를 종합하여 분석한 결과 본 연구의 평가대상인 1.8GHz 대 35MHz 대역의 유보가격은 산정방법에 따라 984억~2198억 원 수준이 적정할 것으로 추정되었다. 몇 가지 한계점에도 불구하고 본 연구에서 제시하는 주파수 비용의 인하는 범세계적인 추세이며, 네트워크 투자의 인센티브를 증진하며, 새로운 시장 창출을 통해 국민의 통신편익 증진에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.

The purpose of this study was to describe the morphological characteristics of mentally retarded children. Data were collected on 134 mentally retarded children. The anthropometric parameters such as height, weight, skinfold thickness, girth, % muscle mass, % bone mass, and % fat were measured and estimated. These variables were analyzed by ANOVA procedure. The result is followed: The first, height, girth of head, and width of wrist and ankle was showed significant difference among degree of male's disability. The second, bone mass and % bone mass was significantly different in degree of disability by male mentally retarded children and down syndrome group was the lowest. The third, if degree of disability by female mentally retarded children was, height, weight, thickness of scapular, girth of 6 variable, and width of 4 variable was significant different. The fourth, muscle mass, fat mass, bone mass, and % bone mass was appeared significantly different in degree of disability by female mentally retarded children.

We analyzed 105 case reports published in the Journal of the Korean Radiological Society between 1975 and 1985. The objectives of this study were to find out(1) whether those case reports were truly original or not as far as domesitc pulications were concerned and (2) Whether their citaitons of domestic literatures were correct. In two papers, we found previous reports published already in the domestic journal in spite of the authors' claim as their "first case reports". In 105 case reports, only 94 references were cited while 151 omitted. It is concluded that a case report must include a ststement to authentically clarify whether similar report had been previously published through meticulous review of published literatures. We also recommend to computerize the index of domestic literatures.teratures.

Guillain-Barre Syndrome is an idiopathic neurologic disorder usually presenting ascending progressive and symmetric paralysis and lack of any sensory symptoms. We report a 41-years-old female who presented with symmetric lower limb paralysis and gait disturbance 5 weeks after cervical spinal fusion. She developed ascending progressive weakness from lower extremities up to upper extremities about 6 days following admission. The electrophysiological test of nerves in upper and lower extremities revealed prolonged distal motor latencies and F wave latency, abnormal reduction of the compound muscle action potential and temporal dispersion. In the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the total protein content was elevated to 405 mg/dL with normal glucose level without cells. Clinical features, electrophysiological test, and CSF examination were consistent with Guillain-Barre Syndrome.
