Ultra High Performance Concrete(UHPC) is a superior structural material with high strength and durability. Construction of light and slim structures is realized to apply this expectable new materials in practice. This research is a part of the project to develop UHPC precast deck system for hybrid cable stayed bridge. The main object of this study is to investigate behavior of the lap-spliced reinforced connection in UHPC. The major parameter considered in experimental plan was lap-spliced length. The 4-points bending test for 12 specimens were conducted to verify the effect of considered parameters. Test results show that the minimum value of lap spliced length of 300mm which specified in current korea high bridge design code was very conservative for UHPC precast deck system.

The precast pannels are used as formwork in Half-depth precast deck systems. Therefore, it has many advantages, including safe and convenient construction and reduced construction period compared to cast-in-place construction method. In half-depth precast deck systems, the bonding of precast pannels to cast-in place concrete is very important. To enhance the performance of half-depth precast deck system, it is necessary to improve the composite efficiency of the interface or increase the stiffness of the precast pannel to reduce deformation or stress on the interface. In this study, a flexural test of half-depth precast deck system was performed, in which the shear connecting reinforcement was applied to increase the bonding performance at the interface, and the rib shape precast panels were applied to improve stiffness. In addition, the safety and serviceability of these systems were evaluated. Test results show that all of specimens have the required flexural strength under the ultimate strength limit design. It was also evaluated to have sufficient safety for the serviceability of deflection and crack under the serviceability limit design.

The Half-depth precast deck is a structural system that utilizes pre-cast panels pre-built at the factory as formwork at the construction stage and as a major structural member at the same time after completion. These systems have joints between segments, and the detail and performance of the joints are factors that have a very large impact on the quality, such as the constructability and durability of the bridge decks. In this study, strength performance evaluation was performed for improved joints using connecting rebar by experimental method. Static loading tests were conducted on the test specimen with improved joint, those with existing joint and those without joint. The test results of the specimens were compared to each other, and the flexural strength required by the design was compared. The flexural strength required in the design was presented by finite element analysis. It has been shown that the flexural strength of the specimens with joints were more than twice that required by the design. But the flexural strength of the specimen with existing joint was about 84% of that without joint. The flexural strength of the specimen with improved joints was a nearly similar degree of that compared to the specimen without joint. And a comparison of the moment-deflection relationship curves of the two specimens also shows a very similar flexural behavior. It is confirmed that improved joint has sufficient flexural strength. In addition to strength, the bridge decks require serviceability, such as deflection and cracking, and in particular, fatigue resistance due to repetitive live loads is an important performance factor. Therefore, further verification studies are required.

The pile construction method is changing from the pile driving operation to the injected precast pile method. It is to prevent environmental damage and to minimize complaints caused by noise. Therefore, economic alternatives optimized for the injected precast pile method are required. In this study, the enhanced spun reinforced concrete piles manufactured by high strength materials were proposed. Experimental tests were conducted to evaluate their structural safety and nonlinear finite element analysis was performed to improve the reliability of experimental results. The experimental results and the analytical results were in good agreement with each other and the proposed enhanced spun reinforced concrete pile has better performance than that required by the design. However, the performance of the joint using the existing method used in the PHC pile was considered to be insufficient.

Structural safety evaluation for static strength of thin plate RC member with high strength concrete is conducted in this study. Static strengths were predicted and compared with the experimental values. Predicted values were calculated by the evaluation formula based on the punching shear behavior and the yield line theory which can appear in the plate members. Static load tests were carried out for the specimens with high strength concrete and the test results were compared with the required performance in design. The comparison results show that the specimens with high strength concrete have sufficient structural safety for flexural and punching shear performance required in design. High strength concrete specimens exhibited excellent strength despite their small thickness. The range of concrete strengths applied in this study was about 60 MPa to 100 MPa.

In order to reduce the accidents occurring at construction sites, it is necessary to approach with harmonious measures considering various aspects such as systems, training, facilities, and protection equipments. Suggestion of safe construction method can be a good alternative. In the previous study, the half-depth precast deck with RC rib panel was proposed as an alternative method for safe bridge deck construction, and the performance required by the design code was verified through a four-point bending test. But the actual bridge deck is subjected to the repetitive action of the wheel load rather than the bending condition due to the four-point load. In this study, fatigue test was performed by repeating the wheel load 2×106 cycles to verify the safety of the half-depth precast deck with RC rib panel under actual conditions. As a result, fatigue effect due to repetition of wheel load was not significant in terms of serviceability such as crack width and deflection. In the residual strength test conducted after the fatigue test, the half-depth precast deck with RC rib panel failed by punching shear which is typical failure mode of bridge decks and the residual strength was similar to the punching strength of the RC and PSC bridge decks in spite of the fatigue effects.
