Data used in this study were 5,525 milk records in 48 herds calving from 1985 to 1991. Mixed model equation(MME) in the animal model was iteratively solved by Gauss-Seidel for herd-year-season, permanent environment, and herd-sire interaction effects and by second-order Jacobi for animal and genetic group effects. Genetic grouping was based on sex of parent and birth date and sex of the animal with unknown parent. Effects of permanent environment and herd-sire interaction in the animal model were examined. It was found that effects of permanent environments were more significant compared to the herd-sire interaction in the animal model considering rank correlations among PTAs from four different animal models(0.91, 0.82). Efficiency of the animal model that includes permanent environmental effects was somewhat lower accounting for the time and numbers of iterations to meet convergence. It was concluded that the animal model with permanent environment effect using all lactation records is more desirable compared to the animal model with herd-sire interaction since obtaining accurate PTA is more important than little time difference in using an animal model.

Data of 1810 milk and fat records of 109 sires and their pedigree in 48 herds calving from 1985 to 1991 were used to estimate genetic parameters for the animal model. The estimates of the heritabilities for milk and fat yields by multivariate REML procedure were 0.32(0.10) and 0.29(0.10), respectively. Estimated genetic and phenotypic correlations were 0.70(0.13) and 0.72(0.01). respectively. The additive genetic relationship between milk yield and fat yield appeared to be quadratic rather than the linear based on the PTA from the animal model. Relative magnitudes of variance components for error. permanent environment, and herd-sire interaction did not have significant effects on the PTA and their ranks, iteration time, and iteration number to meet convergence in the animal model. But there were considerable differences(420) in the number of iteration to meet convergence when some different variance component ratios of error to additive genetic effect(1 to 5) were used in the animal model.

An optimized bidet nozzle design to form the required swirl water jet is proposed with the help of numerical analysis. The bidet can do the cleaning process of human body by water injection and the speed/pressure/injection angle/magnitude of swirl intensity of water jet determine the cleaning capability and personal subjective feeling. The objective of this research is to design optimal water injection nozzle to make stable swirl intensity. The effect of individual design variables are analyzed from the basic design and the final design is deduced to make high performance water jet within the pre-determined operation conditions.

This study was undertaken using a total of 2,577 racing records of horses from September, 1989 to July, 1990 that collected at the K. H. A. A. (Korean Horse Affairs Association) to investigate effects of environmental factors and to estimate genetic variance for racing performance. Results obtained from this study were as follows. Horse`s age, racing number, track condition and racing season showed significant effects on racing time, and winner`s racing time was not appropriate environmental factor for mean racing time in Korea. Racing performance was the best when horse`s age was 3-4yr, racing number was l situated inside, moisture content was more than 16% in track and racing seasons were spring and winter. Estimates of σ²_e by Maximum Likelihood were smaller than those by Minimum Variance Quadratic Unbiased Estimation (MIVQUE). Adjustment for winner`s racing time reduced estimates of σ²_s, σ²_h, and σ²_e, especially, estimates of σ²_h, which were reduced by an average of about 1000% and estimates of repeatabilities were lower than those of heritabilities. Estimates of heritabilities and repeatabilities by nationality ranged from .13±.17 to .30±.20 and from .36±.07 to .52±.14, respectively. Pooled estimates of heritabilities and repeatabilities were .19±.13 and .42± .06 respectively.
