The CAN(controller area network) protocol baesd bus is more & more adopted nowadays for real time distributed control systems in cars. This paper presents a procedure for design and implementation of a CAN-based distributed control system for car rear area modules(RAMs), including not only the hardware architecture but also the software strategy. The developed RAM is enough comparable with real ones implemented in commercial cars. Special emphasis is given to some functions such as signal receiving /execution, transmitting errors & RAM status and high reliability proven through "CANoe signal tester".

For increasing organic removal efficiency, Biolette 65? as media was placed in aeration tank to maximize the solid retention time. Performance of the bench-scale aerated submerged biological filter was evaluated by treating artificical wasterwater mainly composed of glucose and skim milk. Some results from this study were summerized as follows. 1. It was found that when aerated submerged biological filter was employed, the indirect aeration system was more effective than direct aeration system, and periodical wasting of sludge atteched on the media was required to prevent the fomation of dead zone in the media. 2. Suspended solids in the effluent was lower than 30mg/l, and other sludge thickener may not be needed, because suspended solids concentration on the media surface was about 4%. 3. It was found that when placing Biolette 65? in aeration tank, it should be based on the optimum ratio of media volume to aeration tank, it should be based on the optimum ratio of media volume to aeration tank volume rather than the organic surface loading and volumetric loading. The optimum ratio in this study was found to be 22%. 4. The observed yield coefficient, Yobs, was ranged from about 0.26 to 0.31 and maximum solids holding capacity of the media was estimated to be 89.8g/m², which is relatively higher compared to other type of media.

This paper describes a developing procedure including hardware architecture and software strategy of a CAN protocol-based distributed real-time system for car body control. CAN protocol is a very efficient tool supporting high level but stable data communication and hard real-time distributed control system, thanks to its high speed transmission bit rate, error detection ability and function confining the error effect within the system. An ad hoc system to verify the approach followed was made, which consists of 2 independent controller modules including related hardware and the ported CAN protocol code. And some tests show stable real-time data communication between the 2 modules through the CAN wires.
