      • W . B . 예이츠의 시에 나타난 탄트리즘

        조용해 충북대학교 인문과학연구소 2000 人文學誌 Vol.19 No.1

How much Yeats understood about Indian Philosophy is not important. But he used them as a poetic metaphor or expressions. Yeats utilized the Indian thoughts in his works and he did it through his ways. Moreover, he popularized the Indians' spiritual life in his works. He tried to give an organic unity to his whole works and tried to express his efforts in his works with his desire for the spirit and its freedom. To him, it was an unavoidable thing to accept the Oriental thoughts and they affected so much in his spiritual world. Among them there were the Tantric System and Cabala from the Indian philosophy as a mystic experience of the sexual union, which means the resolve of the conflict. Yeats recognized and used the Veda and Tantra as a highly expressed poetic metaphor, also. And they were the great sources and materials for his poetic creation. Yeats intended to achieve his harmonic world, Unity of Being, in his poems from the practical human life. And he accepted Tantra because he believed that he could achieve the eternal world from the antimony through the complete sexual union of a man and a woman. He used it as a symbol of the Unity of Being and the Self. Yeats also tried to unify the Irish customs and thoughts and he found that the Self and the Soul is the same existence. His purpose in art was to establish the 'Unity of Being' through the life and the conflict in it. And he concluded the God as that of the Self and 'Universal Self'.

        예이츠의 시에 나타난 동양철학의 순환체계

조용해 한국예이츠학회 2003 한국예이츠 저널 Vol.19 No.-

        W. B. Yeats is one of the most important philosophical poets who tried to incorporate history, society, art, and literature in their poems. He proved that the human desire to create the 'Self' through the literature was possible. The developmental process of his literature shows a long way to his destination : freedom of the human soul. It was natural that he has accepted various Eastern and Western philosophies to achieve his goal. Yeats utilized the Indian thoughts in his works and he did it through his own ways. Moreover, he popularized the Indians spiritual life in his works. He tried hard to give an organic unity to his whole works. Especially, he expressed the results of his efforts along his life for his desire for the spirit and its freedom in a raw. It was an unavoidable thing to accept the Oriental thoughts to him, and they effected so much to him to remain in his spiritual world. Among them there was a Cyclical System from the Indian philosophy as a mystic experience to resolve the conflict. The purpose of this dissertation is to examine the influences of Eastern philosophy on Yeats. Secondly, the developmental process of Cycle whose completed forms, such as a gyre or a circle, can be found in A Vision, are traced through the analysis of Yeats’s verse. The ultimate role of the system is the realization of the Unity of Being, which is the state of harmony and unity through the conflicts of the opposites such as life and death, subjectivity and objectivity, and soul and body, etc.

한국판 Beck Depression Inventory의 확인적 요인분석: 대학생과 임상표본 간 구조 및 측정동일성 검증

조용해,김정호 한국임상심리학회 2002 Korean Journal of Clinical Psychology Vol.21 No.4

We conducted confirmatory factor analysis(CFA) to examine if the factor structure of a Korean version of the BDI(K-BDI) is invariant across undergraduate and clinical samples and if the factor loadings are equal across these two samples. In Study 1, six models about factor structure of the BDI reported in previous studies were evaluated with CFA on the data of 412 undergraduate samples. A hierarchical three-factor model was considered to be most appropriate as well as parsimonious in describing the data. Additionally, it was inappropriate to assume that there would be no correlation between the factors of the BDI. In Study 2, metric invariance across undergraduate students in Study 1 and clinical samples in our recent study was tested. Partial metric invariance across samples was confirmed after 5 first-order and one second-order estimates proving to be nonequivalent were not constrained. The results indicate that both factor structure and most factor loadings of the K-BDI are invariant across undergraduate and clinical samples.

      • EDWARD ALBEE : 죽음을 통한 불모성의 극복

        조용해 충북대학교 인문과학연구소 1995 人文學誌 Vol.13 No.1

Edward Albee : The Overcoming of Sterility through Death. The most important contribution Albee has made through his main works is the introduction of the European Theatre of the Absurd to the American theatre. It was directly inspired by the themes and the techniques of the Theatre of the Absurd. The appearance of the Theatre of the Absurd after the World War Ⅱ became the literary expression of the new awareness of the position of human beings in the universe. Albee used the Theatre of Absurd in order to project the isolation of the individual from the society, and the corruption of values in the contemporary society. The aim of this study is to observe the possibility of the salvation through Jerry's self- sacrifice in The Zoo Story focused on the intensive death for the reality, to observe how the writer stood up to and broke up the mistaken illusions through the death of an "imaginary son" in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, and to observe how the writer presented the way of living for the human beings through the reality of the modern world in The American Dream. The Zoo Story is concerned with the loneliness enforced by the society upon each individual and the failure of an attempt to live in harmony with the other human beings. Albee uses the zoo, where everyone is separated by bars from everyone else, as a mataphor for contemporary society. According to Albee's play, human relations are a combination of kindness and cruelty. But man has managed to protect himself from this reality, and from the discomfort and anxieties of sharing real emotions, with the artificial barriers in which he has encircled himself. In discussing the Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, the image of a man striving to approach the reality is dealt with through the death of the 'imaginary son' for breaking down the illusions. The death of the "imaginary son" became the breakthrough to overcome the absurd situations surrounded by the illusions. This work is indeed concerned with the purgation and ultimate destruction of illusions. The American Dream is named after the common dream of the American people and is centered around the murder of it's empty shell. And it is a parable criticizing American ideals. Or, as Albee says, The American Dream is about the substitution of artificial values for real values in American society, the shameful treatment of old people and a symbolic and at the same time actual murder. Consequently, what is emphasized in Albee's plays is not the situations that cause deaths or the death of man himself, but the development of the human beings' consciousness faced by the awful reality of death.
