S Vol.s35 No.6
ATM 망에서는 전화서비스와 같은 CBR(Constant Bit Rate) 음성을 처리하기 위해서 AAL1 CES(Circuit Emulation Service)를 제시하고 있다. The ATM network provides ATM CES(Circuit Emulation Services) with AAL1 for CBR(constant bit rate) services such as telephone speech. In this study, quality assessment of telephone speech with CES over ATM was performed and discussed. For this, interoperability between ATM network and structured/unstructured DS1 link was modeled for simulation. And for qualiy assessment of telephone speech, SNR and MOS were used as an objective and a subjective measure, respectively. Experimental results have shown that MOS score 4 as well as SNR 30dB could be obtained at CLR of $10^{-3}$ or below for speech signal.

Purpose: There have been relatively few reports of chlorophenoxy herbicide poisoning. The purpose of this study is to analyze the general characteristics and clinical aspects of the chlorophenoxy herbicide intoxicated patients in Korea. Methods: We prospectively evaluated the chlorophenoxy herbicide intoxicated patients visiting to the 38 emergency medical centers in Korea from the 1 August 2005 to the 31 July 2006. Results: 24 patients were enrolled during the study periods. Their mean age was 55.7 years old. The median amount of the chlorophenoxy herbicide intoxicated is 150 mL. The most frequent location where the patients obtained and took the chlorophenoxy herbicide was their home. Frequent compounds involving chlorophenoxy herbicide poisoning were dicamba(66.7%), MCPP(16.7%), and 2,4-D(12.5%). The most common symptom of the patients was confusion and vomiting. 16 patients(66.7%) intended to suicide. 3 patients out of 24 patients(13.0%) were died. Conclusion: There were 24 patients intoxicated by the chlorophenoxy herbicide during the study periods. The mortality rate was 13.0%. The suicidal attempts and the numbers of death involving chlorophenoxy herbicide were high in Korea.

The purpose of this study is twofold: One is to present and characterize the English metaphors and metonymies of heart+sadness starting from the metonymy of heart-sickness and the metaphor of sadness in Kovecses (2000); The other is to show their various complexes based on Ruiz de Mendoza & Galera-Masegosa (2011). Heart+sadness metonymies are connected in terms of cause and effect. Most source domains of the sadness metaphor are found in heart+sadness except for coldness, darkness and insanity. Some heart+sadness, whose source domains are the opponent, the social superior, the fluid, the living organism, the captive animal, and natural force, are conceptually stable in that the conceptualization of [HEART] is definite and its relation with sadness is clear; Some others, whose source domains are physical force, sickness, and lack of life, are rather flexible in that the conceptualization of [HEART] is not definite, or its relation with sadness is not clear. Complexes of heart+sadness expressions are diverse with chained metonymy, metonymy within metaphor, chained metaphor, and metaphor amalgam.

This study aims to present the metonymies and the metaphors of anger and fear exploiting HEART (heart+anger and heart+fear), and to analyze the use of their types. Metonymies of heart+fear are presented and three types of metaphors of heart+anger and heart+fear are identified: HEART AS A CONTAINER type, HEART AS AN AGONIST type, and BAD HEART FOR BAD FEEUNG type. Examining corpus data reveals that fear exploits HEART much more than anger does; and the two emotions similarly prefer HEART AS A CONTAINER, HEART AS AN AGONIST and BAD HEART in that order; but they use HEART AS AN AGONIST and BAD HEART to different degrees. Through the different uses, different stages and conceptualizations of anger and fear get salient: INTENSITY of anger and the initial stage of fear, fear as an antagonist attacking HEART, and the negative evaluation of anger.

The purpose of this study is to present the English figurative expressions of heart+love and to show their concept compositions. For the former aim, Kovecses (2000)’s metonymy and metaphors of love, and for the latter aim, Ruiz de Mendoza & Galera-Masegosa (2011)’s idea of complexes’ composition is utilized. The heart+love metonymy exploites strong, rapid, and irregular heart beats; The heart+love metaphors rest on [CLOSENESS TO ONE’S HEART], [POSSESSION OF ONE’S HEART], [FORCE TO ONE’S HEART], [ABNORMAL STATE OF ONE’S HEART], and [SOMETHING IN ONE’S HEART]. Composition types of complexes of heart+love are mostly metaphor with metonymy, chained metaphor, and metaphor amalgam. Different conceptualizations of [HEART] are found in different types of heart+love compositions: [HEART FOR FEELING] is found in the target domain of a metaphor with metonymy, [HEART FOR PERSON] in its source domain, and [HEART AS A VALUABLE OBJECT] & [HEART AS A CONTAINER] in a chained metaphor.

Symptoms of aspirin overdose may vary from acid-base disturbance, electrolyte abnormality, non-cardiogenic pulmonary edema, chemical hepatitis, seizure to cardiac toxicity. Cardiac adverse effects from aspirin are uncommon but there are reports of arrhythmia, cardiopulmonary arrest, and myocardial infarction. We report 2 cases of young women with aspirin overdose who exhibited ischemic changes on their ECGs a few hours after the ingestion with spontaneous recovery in a few days. First case, a 29 year old woman, presented to the emergency department 6 hours after ingesting 250 tablets of aspirin (325 mg/T). On examination, the temperature was $36.3^{\circ}C$: blood pressure, 105/72mmHg; Pulse, 111/min and respiratory rate, 24/min. Second case, a 27 year old woman, an hour after ingesting 60 tablets (325mg/T). On examination, the temperature was $36.0^{\circ}C$: blood pressure, 102/72 mmHg; pulse, 89/min and respiratory rate, 25/min. In both cases, ECG after 6 hours of ingestion had sinus tachycardia and developed T wave inversion on the anterior leads in the following ECGs. Their initial serum salicylate levels after 6 hours of ingestion were 71.2 mg/dL and 28.4 mg/dL respectively. These salicylate levels were resolving when these ECGs were observed. The ECG changes resolved in the following days and they were discharged without any further symptoms. Further studies are needed, but for the time being, when dealing with salicylate overdose, transient cardiac depression should be kept in mind to avoid adverse ischemic cardiac events.
