Objectives In the present study, the author intended to investigate whether bojung-ikgitang-gamibang(BJGB) and seonbang-paedoktang(SBPT) significantly affect in vivo and in vitro mucin secretion from airway epithelial cells. Methods In vivo experiment, mice's mucin which is on a hypersecretion of airway mucin, mice's tracheal goblet cells in hyperplasia and mice's intraepithelial mucosubstances were exposed with SO2for3weeks. Effects of orally-administered BJGB and SBPT during 1 week on vivo mucin secretion and hyperplasia of tracheal goblet cells were assessed by using both enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA) and staining goblet cells with alcian blue. In vitro experiment, confluent hamster tracheal surface epithelial(HTSE) cells were metabolically radiolabeled with 3H-glucosamine for 24hrs and chased for 30 min in the presence of each agent to figure out the effectiveness of 3H-mucin secretion. Total elution profiles of control spent media and treatment sample through Sepharose CL-4B column were analyzed. The effects of each agent on contractility of isolated tracheal smooth muscle and effects of each agent on MUC5AC gene expression in cultured HTSE cells were investigated. Also, possible cytotoxicities of each agent were assessed by measuring lactate dehydrogenase(LDH) release. Additionally, effects of BJGB and SBPT on both MUC5AC gene expression in cultured HTSE cells and TNF- or EGF-induced MUC5AC gene expression in human airway epithelial cells (NCI-H292) were investigated. Results (1) BJGB and SBPT inhibited hypersecretion of in vivo mucin. SBPT also inhibited the increase the number of goblet cells. However, BJGB did not affect the increase of number of goblet cells; (2) BJGB significantly increased mucin secretion from cultured HTSE cells, without significant cytotoxicity, and chiefly affected the 'mucin' secretion; (3) SBPT did not affect mucin secretion from cultured HTSE cells without significant cytotoxicity, and also did not affect the secretion of the other releseable glycoproteins; (4) BJGB and SBPT did not affect Ach-induced contraction of isolated tracheal smooth muscle; (5) SBPT significantly inhibit the expression levels of MUC5AC gene and BJGB significantly increased the expression levels of MUC5AC gene in both HTSE cells and NCI-H292 cells. Conclusions BJGB and SBPT can not only affect the secretion of mucin but also affect the expression of mucin gene. The author suggests that the effects BJGB and SBPT with their components should be further investigated and it is highly desirable to find from oriental medical prescriptions, novel agents which might regulate hypersecretion of mucin from airway epithelial cells.
간세포암 환자의 종양병기 평가에 대한 Up-to-Seven Score의 임상적 유용성

Background/Aims: Up-to-seven criteria was proven to be useful for predicting prognosis after liver transplantation in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The aim of this study was to evaluate that up-to-seven score could be useful method for prediction of prognosis in patients with HCC who did not undergo liver transplantation. Methods: Between January 2006 and December 2008, 216 HCC patients without vascular invasion, lymph node and distant metastasis were analyzed retrospectively. We investigated the prognostic impact of laboratory findings, clinical characteristics, modified UICC T stage, and up-to-seven score in HCC. The survival analyses were performed using Kaplan-Meier Results: Two-hundred sixteen patients with HCC were included. Age was 60.1±11.3 years and 74.5% were male. Chronic hepatitis B was the most common cause of liver disease (60.6%). T stage was T1, T2, and T3 in 36 (16.7%), 118 (54.6%), and 62 (28.7%) patients, respectively. Up-to-even score was 5.5±4.0 and it was <3 (UTS 1), ≥3 and ≤7 (UTS 2), and >7 (UTS 3) in 36 (16.7%), 133 (61.6%), and 47 (21.8%) patients, respectively. The 10 (8.5%) patients of T2 stage were classified into UTS 3 and 25 (40.3%) patients of T3 stage were classified into UTS 2. The prognosis was significantly different in patients with T2 or T3 according to their UTS. Multivariate analysis showed that Child-Pugh score and UTS were significantly associated Conclusions: Up-to-seven score was useful to predict prognosis and to evaluate tumor stage in patients without vascular invasion, lymph node and distant metastasis.

재해 및 재난에 의한 위험은 비록 그 발생빈도는 낮지만 직접적인 충격 및 그 파급효과가 매우 크다. 특히 금융기관은 정보시스템에 대한 의존도가 높고 국내 및 세계경제에 매우 중요한 역할을 하고 있어 업무연속성(Business Continuity)에 대한 관심이 크게 증대되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 평상시 위기상황 발생시에 대한 정확한 문제의식 파악과 더불어 유사시 발생할 수 있는 업무 중단에 대비여 지속적인 서비스를 제공할 수 있는 업무연속성계획(Business Continuity Planning) 및 재해복구시스템(Disaster Recovery System)에 대하여 살펴보고, 국내 금융기관의 재해복구 현황 과 구축사례를 비교 분석하여 시사점을 도출해서 업무연속성계획을 기반으로 한 효과적인 재해복구시스템 구축을 위한 개선 방안 제시하고자 한다.

The European Standard(EN 1264) and ASHRAE Handbook specify the design method of radiant floor panel, which are available for the design phase of radiant floor heating and cooling systems. The European Standard(EN 1264) and ASHRAE Handbook were studied for this paper. Considerations for application of radiant floor heating and cooling system design in Korea were deduced. Unlike the ASHRAE Handbook, EN 1264 specifies operation temperature as indoor design temperature to reflect effects of radiant heat transfer, which should be considered for control strategies and devices. Design dew-point temperature to prevent from surface condensations is one of the critical design conditions for cooling. Cautious determination of this dew-point temperature is required for hot and humid climate like Korea. Radiative and convective heat transfers are calculated separately in ASHRAE Handbook. On the other hand, they were integrated in EN 1264. The limit(maximum) thermal output that depends on the surface temperature and temperature drop should be calculated considering a domestic trend about these parameters.
