The purpose of this study is to investigate how the acquisition of English articles through grammar awareness-raising affects high school students' English ability. The subjects were 60 high school students, who were divided into two groups, and again into two levels. Article instruction using grammar awareness-raising techniques were given for 5 weeks. The major findings from this research are as follows: 1) The experimental group achieved significantly higher scores in their post test than the control group; 2) The lower-level students showed significantly better results than the ones in the control group; 3) In the qualitative analysis of article use, the experimental group used articles more correctly than the control group; 4) the experimental group, particularly in lower level, significantly improved after learning article usage in context-sensitive discourse with authentic materials. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a stress-management program on stress coping methods, interpersonal relations and quality of life in patients with chronic mental illness. Methods: A none-quivalent control group pre-posttest design was used for this quasi-experimental study. The study was conducted from May 1 to December30, 2010. The 41 participants in this study were selected from patients with chronic mental illness (20 for the experimental group and 21 for the control group). Datas were analyzed x2-test, t-test, paired t-test, and one-way ANCOVA with the SPSS/WIN 15.0 program. Results: There were significant changes in stress coping methods scores, interpersonal relations scores and quality of life scores in the experimental group before and after treatment, which were significantly different from those in the significant improvement in stress coping methods, interpersonal relations and quality of life for patients with chronic mental illness. Therefore, this study shows stress-management programs are useful in clinical practice as effective nursing interventions in patients with chronic mental illness.
유근피(楡根皮)가 전신적(全身的) 및 국소적(局所的) 아나필락시스에 미치는 효과(效果)

Ulmi radicis cortex is a herb medicine which has been used for the treatment of such allergic disease as urticaria, allergic rhinitis and athma. To assess the contribution of an aqueous extract of Ulmi radicis cortex(URC) in systemic anaphylaxis, we used compound 48/80 as a fatal anaphylaxis inducer in rats. URC inhibited anaphylactic shock 100% with a dose of 1.0 mg/g body weight (BW) 1 hr before injection of compound 48/80. URC significantly inhibited serum histamine levels induced by compound 48/80. URC (1.0 mg/g BW) also inhibited to 79.1% passive cutaneous anaphylaxis activated by anti-dinitrophenyl (DNP) IgE. URC dose-dependently inhibited the histamine release from the rat peritoneal mast cells (RPMC) by compound 48/80. Moreover, URC had a significant inhibitory effect on anti-DNP IgE-induced histamine release or tumor necrosis $factor-{\alpha}$ production from RPMC. The level of cAMP in RPMC, when URC was added, significantly increased compared with that of normal control. These results indicate that URC may possess strong antianaphylactic effect.

Objective: To evaluate the effects of Sipjeondaebo-tang (十全大補湯) extract on a stage two pressure sore. Methods: Sipjeondaebo-tang extract (5 g) was given three times a day to a treat the pressure sore. Results: The pressure sore in the sacrococcygeal region was improved. A second pressure sore ofthe right greater trochanter region, which emerged during the study, was also improved. Conclusions: Sipjeondaebo-tang extract may represent an effective treatment for pressure sores, but further studies are needed.

The unripe fruit of Poncirus trifoliata Raf has been used for the treatment of allergic disease. Recently it was reported that the fruit inhibits passive cutaneous anaphylaxis and histamine release at mast cell. Type I immediate hypersensitivity of anaphylactic type is caused by released mediate chemical at mast cell. Histamine is also known as one of potent mediate chemical. Also release of mediate chemical is affected by specific stimulation of IgE combined with mast cell. Activation of mast cell is known to be stimulated by compound 48/80 and inhibited by increase of cAMP. In this experiment, the effect of water extract of Poncirus trifoliata Raf fruit (PT) on a histamine release, cAMP concentration and IgE production was measured. Compound 48/80 was administrated to the mouse peritoneal cell which was pretreated with PT. PT dosedependently inhibited histamine release at peritoneal mast cell and the serum level of histamine induced by compound 48/80. PT also instantly increased cAMP level of peritoneal mast cell right after it was added and the level gradually decreased. Production of IgE induced by antigens at mouse peritoneal cell was inhibited by PT. The IgE synthesis is induced by IL-4 and it is known that lipopolysaccharide(LPS) plus IL-4 cause an increase in IgE secretion by murine B cells. The effects of PT inhibited the production of IgE activated by LPS plus IL-4 at human U266B1 cells. These results indicate that PT has antiallergic activity by Inhibition of IgE production from B cells and histamine release by increase of cAMP.
