A Case of Recurrent Meningitis Caused by Rhodococcus species Successfully Treated with Antibiotic Treatment and Intrathecal Injection of Vancomycin through an Ommaya Reservoir

Human infection by Rhodococcus species is rare and mostly limited to immunocompromised hosts such as patients infected with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or organ transplant recipients. The most common strain is R. equi, and the most common clinical presentation is pulmonary infection, reported in 80% of Rhodococcus spp. infections. The central nervous system is an uncommon infection site. We report a case of a patient with pneumonia, brain abscess, and recurrent meningitis caused by Rhodococcus spp. He initially presented with pneumonia with necrosis, which progressed to brain abscess and recurrent meningitis. Rhodococcus spp. was identified from the cerobrospinal fluid (CSF) collected during his fourth hospital admission. Despite prolonged treatment with appropriate antibiotics, meningitis recurred three times. Finally, in order to administer antibiotics directly into the CSF and bypass the blood-brain barrier, an Ommaya reservoir was inserted for administration of 90 days of intrathecal vancomycin and amikacin in conjunction with intravenous and oral antibiotics; the patient was finally cured with this treatment regimen.

Treponema pallidum, causative agent of syphilis, can disseminate systemically including central nervous system. Neurological manifestations of syphilis can occur during any stage, but neurosyphilis is known to be an uncommon cause of facial palsy and hearing loss. Herein, we report a case of neurosyphilis. The patient was 57 years old man who complained facial palsy and hearing loss. We concluded as neurosyphilis associated with facial and vestibulococlear nerve involvement by CSF analysis and MRI finding. He was treated with intravenous penicillin.

부산지방에서 사육중인 애완견으로부터 분리한 피부사상균에 관한 연구

This study were performed to distribution of dermatophytes isolated from pet dogs in Pusan area and pathogenicity of the isolates. During the period from March 1993. to April 1994, 201 pet dogs of house breeding were examined. The result of obtained were summarized as followes; 1. Isolation rate of dermatophytes were 4.7%(7/149) in no lesion and 23.1%(12/52) in lesion of dog's skin. 2. According to breeding conditions, isolation rate of dermatophytes were 1) 3.8% in no lesion and indoor breeding, 2) 16.7% in lesion and indoor breeding, 3) 13.5% no lesion and outdoor breeding, and 4) 37.5% in lesion and outdoor bleeding. 3. Among the 201 Pet dogs, 16 strains of M. cams(84.2%), 1 of M. gypseum(5.3%), and 2 of T. mentagrophytes (10.5%) were isolated. 4. For Pathogenicity test, one strain of each M. canis, M, gypseum, T. mentagrophytes isolated from skin lesions were inoculated to the skin of the posterior back of guinea pigs. All of dermatophytes tested were induced skin lesions. Among them, M. cams and T. mentagrophytes were more virulent than M. gypseum.

주택지붕용 2kWp BIPV시스템의 성능 실험 및 전기 부하 감당에 관한 연구

The efficiency of building-integrated photovoltaic(BIPV) system is mainly determined by solar radiation and the temperature of PV modules. The performance of BIPV systems is reported to be different from that of conventional PV systems installed in the open-air. This paper presents the relationship of solar radiation and electricity generation from a 2kWp roof-integrated PV system that is applied as building elements on an experimental house, and the energy saving effect of the BIPV system for a typical house. For the performance evaluation of the BIPV system, it produced a regression equation with measured data for winter days. The regression equation showed that a comparison of the measured electricity generation and the predicted electricity generation of the BIPV system were meaningful. It showed that an annual electricity generation of the system appeared to cover around 52% of an annual electricity consumption of a typical domestic house with the floor area of $96m^2$.

The purpose of this study was the examination for presence of K99 antigen (K99), enterotoxigenicity, 0-groups, colicin and antibiotic susceptibility among E. coil isolated from calves and cows. A total of 49(18.7%) among 262 strains, isolated from 30(26.5%) out of 113 calves and cows, possesed K99, and thirty three of 49 $K99^+$ strains produced ST. Of the strains of diarrheal calf origin which less than 15 days old, a high correlation was observed between enterotoxigenic ability and K99: 92.3% of the $K99^+$ strains produced heat stable enterotoxin(ST). In O group typing of 33 $ST^+$ strains, they belonged to O20(48.4%), O8(9.1%), O9(6.1%), O139(6.1%), O149(6.1%), O101(3.0%), O115(3.0%), except six which were untypable or autoagglutinable. Of 262 E. coil isolates, 30 strains(13.3%) produced colicin and K99 were detected in 6 strains. One hundred eighty eight strains(71.8%) of 262 E. coil isolates were resistance to ampicillin, chloramphenicol, gentamicin, kanamycin, streptomycin, tetracycline, alone or in combination thereof. One hundred and fourteen(60.6%) out of 188 drug resistance strains carried R factor($R^+$) which were transferable to the recipients by conjugation. Sixty five $R^+$ strains(57.0%) carried thermo-sensitive R plasmid.

This paper analyzes the tendency of desire in Squid Game. The dystopian world of Squid Game is a world of regression that arises from the boredom of the game's designer, Oh Il-nam, and the VIPs. From a psychoanalytic perspective, Squid Game can be seen as the emergence of the real as a metaphorical signifier of sainthome, caused by the depletion of jouissance. They are trying to recover the problem of loss of being as a stimulus by constructing a distorted world, socializing objects, and indulging in enjoyment from them. A series of attempts follow the logical structure of the Discourse of the Master. In particular, the way the game participants come to desire the game world is by destroying their humanity to cultivate ruthless competitive abilities and resocializing them by engaging in predatory gambling. Gambling is like a symptom that is forced on the weak in a polarized world. The tendency of desire itself is a criticism of this game world, which reflects the world, and at the same time a criticism of the polarized reality. O Il-nam, who makes people desire this world, is actually a person who is skeptical of the world's powerlessness. In contrast, Gi-hun eventually denies the position and achievement of the world created by O Il-nam. O Il-nam, who was a strong man in a polarized world and a transcendent other in a created world, but was struggling with the desire for stimulation, ended his life by asking Gi-hun, who did not give up his own existence, the value of human existence. This drama tried to avoid the hackneyed social participation stories through a symbolic and allegorical reflection of the polarized world, and attempted an ethical question about the problem of human desire that has reached an existential limit. This deserves to be evaluated as one of the merits of the Squid Game narrative.

연극을 활용한 한국어교육 사례 연구

본 사례 연구는 공연을 위한 한국어 연극을 현장에서 지도한 사례와 그 효용성에서 착안하여 연극을 교실 교육으로 끌어들여 시도한 ‘연극을 통해 배우는 한국어’라는 교양 과목 수업 사례를 소개하였다. 교육연극 수업 사례 소개에서는 연극에 임하기 위한 기본 훈련으로서 발성 훈련, 발음 훈련, 반어적 표현 훈련 사례를 소개하였다. 또한 비언어적 표현과 연기 연습의 일환으로 감정 표현을 몇 가지로 단순화 하여 연습하는 것을 소개하였으며 대본에서 억양의 표시 방법도 소개하였다. 대규모 연극에 쓰이는 대본으로 독해와 구연에 이르는 학습 과정과 소규모 연극 대본으로 실제 시연에 이르는 과정을 소개했다. 교육을 위한 연극 수업은 연극을 학습을 위한 도구로 사용하는 것으로서 연극 본연의 장점들을 포기해야 하는 면도 있다. 이를 보완하여 시도한 것이 소규모 연극 시연을 통해 보다 체계적으로 연극을 경험하게 하는 것이었다. 그리고 교육연극의 실질적 교육효과와 공연을 위한 연극이라는 연극 본연의 효용 가치를 조합할 수 있었다. This case study introduced practices of the liberal arts called ``Korean learning through drama`` inspired by the effectiveness of Korean drama for performance which was instructed in the classroom. In the introduction of educational drama class, vocal training, pronunciation training, and ironical expression examples as basic training for the performance were introduced. As part of non-verbal expressions and acting exercises, practicing some of the simplified emotional expressions was introduced, and way to mark accent in the script was also introduced. The learning process leading to reading and narrating with the script used in large-scale drama and the process leading to the actual demonstration with small-scale drama script were also introduced. In case of utilizing drama as a tool for learning, drama classes for education have aspects to give up the inherent advantages of the drama. As an attempt for complementing this weakness, students were let to experience dramas more systematically through demonstration of small-scale drama. And through this, we could combine a substantial effect of educational drama and inherent utility value of drama for performance.
