Pitfalls and Security Measures for the Mobile EMR System in Medical Facilities
2012 Healthcare Informatics Research Vol.18 No.2
Objectives: The goal of this paper is to examine the security measures that should be reviewed by medical facilities that are trying to implement mobile Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems designed for hospitals. Methods: The study of the security requirements for a mobile EMR system is divided into legal considerations and sectional security investigations. Legal considerations were examined with regard to remote medical services, patients’ personal information and EMR, medical devices, the establishment of mobile systems, and mobile applications. For the 4 sectional security investigations, the mobile security level SL-3 from the Smartphone Security Standards of the National Intelligence Service (NIS) was used. Results: From a compliance perspective, legal considerations for various laws and guidelines of mobile EMR were executed according to the model of the legal considerations. To correspond to the SL-3, separation of DMZ and wireless network is needed. Mobile access servers must be located in only the smartphone DMZ. Furthermore, security measures like 24-hour security control, WIPS, VPN, MDM, and ISMS for each section are needed to establish a secure mobile EMR system. Conclusions: This paper suggested a direction for applying regulatory measures to strengthen the security of a mobile EMR system in accordance with the standard security requirements presented by the Smartphone Security Guideline of the NIS. A future study on the materialization of these suggestions after their application at actual medical facilities can be used as an illustrative case to determine the degree to which theory and reality correspond with one another.

Until today, the personal information of subjects has been centralized in many companies or institutions. However, in recent days, the paradigm has gradually changed in the direction that subjects control their personal information and persue their self-sovereignty. Globally, individual data sovereignty is strengthened by the European Union"s General Data Protection Regulation(GDPR) and the US California Consumer Privacy Act(CCPA). In Korea, a few alliances consist of various companies are creating technology research and service application cases for decentralized ID service model. In this paper, the current decentralized ID service model and its limitations are studied, and a improved decentralized ID service model that can solve them is proposed. The proposed model has a function of securely storing decentralized ID to the third party and a linkage function that can be interoperated even if different decentralized ID services are generated. In addition, a more secure and convenient model by identifying the security threats of the proposed model and deriving the security requirements, is proposed. It is expected that the decentralized ID technology will be applied not only to the proof of people but also to the device ID authentication management of the IoT in the future.

High-entropy TiAlCrSiN nano-composite coating was designed to improve mold life for high temperature liquid molding. Alloy design, powder fabrication and single alloying target fabrication for the high-entropy nano-composite coating were carried out. Using the single alloying target, an arc ion plating method was applied to prepare a TiAlCrSiN nano-composite coating had a 30 nm TiAlCrSiN layers are deposited layer by layer, and form about 4 μm-thickness of multi-layered coating. TiAlCrSiN nano-composite coating had a high hardness of about 39.9 GPa and a low coefficient of friction of less than about 0.47 in a dry environment. In addition, there was no change in the structure of the coating after the dissolution loss test in the molten metal at a temperature of about 1100 degrees.

Decentralized Identity is based on the concept of self-sovereign identity, in which holders manage and provide their own credentials. However, a procedure is required to obtain credentials from issuers, and there is a risk of mess personal information leaking due to negligence of the issuers. In this paper, we propose a peer decentralized identity system based on Peer DID technology that allows only participants to verify their identity in 1:1 or 1:N small groups by matching the holder with the issuer. It is directly connected to a mobile device using short-range wireless communications such as bluetooth, and the holders create and provide their own credentials in person to the other party, thus fully realizing the self-sovereignty identity. The proposed system can simplify the identification process, improve security and privacy, and reduce costs. Furthermore, an extended architecture is possible to connect the proposed system and the distributed ledger to identify users in other domains. In the future, based on various technologies, it is also necessary to expand research on identity systems that can be utilized for human-to-thing and things-to-things authentication.
