Fifty six patients with unstable thoracolumbar bursting fractures were treated using variable internal fixation devices such as the Kaneda Anterior Fixation System(Kaneda device), the Z-Plate-ATL^(TM) Anterior Fixation System(Z-Plate ATL^(TM)device), the Harrington device. Cotrel-Dudousset(CD) or Compact Cotrel Dubousset(CCD) device of Steffee Transpedicular System with or without decompression. Suchy internal fixation devices were grouped into anterior and posterior internal fixation devices and compared with each other in the aspect of the degree of neurological improvement, the changes of the vertebral height and the kyphotic angle, the duration of admission, and postoperative complications. In conclusion, the anterior internal fixation device appears to be of more benefit in the management of patients with unstable thoracolumbar bursting fracture
흉·요추 압박골절 환자에서 Kaneda기구를 이용한 전방 경유 척추고정술에 관한 연구

Fifteen patients with thoracolumbar bursting fracture were treated using Kaneda device. The Patient population consisted of 10 men and 5 women with mean age of 31 years. All patients suffered severe back pain with other neurological symptoms and signs. Complications include meralgia paresthetica in 7 cases, donor site infection in 2 cases, pleural effusion in 3 cases and paralytic ileus in 5 cases. Interbody autogenous bone graft, obtained from iliac bone, provided excellent bony fusion in all cases on radiologic evaluation between 6 months to 12 months after operation. No patients showed neurologic deterioration after surgery. (Key words : Bursting fracture, Meralgia paresthetica, Donor site infection, Pleural effusion, Paralytic ileus)

고래로부터 「치산치수가 곧 국가통합의 근본이 됨은」 새삼 논하지 않더라도 연중행사 격으로 내습하는 막대한 홍수한발의 피해에서 뼈저리게 체험하고 있는 바이며, 연 이 년래의 전라도지방을 휩쓸 한발의 피해에서도 조야가 이구동성으로 부르짖는 지불수개발, 전천후농업개발 등의 수자원개발문제는 산림과 뗄 수 없는 관계에 놓여 있음은 이론의 여지가 없다. 또한 국토의 3/4을 살림면적으로 포용하고 있음에도 불구하는 외재도입으로 연간 수천만불의 외화를 낭비하는 사태는 한국과 거의 같은 산림면적을 가진 “스칸디나비아” 각국의 삼림자원을 주산업으로 하여 세계 일등국민의 위치를 자랑하는 사실 등에서 볼 때 임산업의 비중이 얼마나 크다는 점을 알 수 있으며 이에 반하여 우리의 국민도의의 흠여와 삼림황폐는 대조적으로 느끼지 않을 수 없다. 여기에서 먼저 임업의 중요성을 구명하고, 주제를 논하고자 한다.
VOID FRACTION PREDICTION FOR SEPARATED FLOWS IN THE NEARLY HORIZONTAL TUBES

A mechanistic model for void fraction prediction with improved interfacial friction factorin nearly horizontal tubes has been proposed in connection with the development of acondensation model package for the passive auxiliary feedwater system of the KoreanAdvanced Power Reactor Plus. The model is based on two-phase momentum balanceequations to cover various types of fluids, flow conditions, and inclination angles of theflow channel in a separated flow. The void fraction is calculated without any discontinuityat flow regime transitions by considering continuous changes of the interfacial geometriccharacteristics and interfacial friction factors across three typical separated flows, namelystratifiedesmooth, stratifiedewavy, and annular flows. An evaluation of the proposedmodel against available experimental data covering various types of fluids and flow regimesshowed a satisfactory agreement.

The two-thermocouple method was investigated experimentally to evaluate its accuracy for the measurement of local wall temperature and heat flux on a heat transfer tube with an electric heater rod installed in an annulus channel. This work revealed that a thermocouple flush-mounted in a surface groove serves as a good reference method for the accurate measurement of the wall temperature, whereas two thermocouples installed at different depths in the tube wall yield large bias errors in the calculation of local heat flux and wall temperature. These errors result from conductive and convective changes due to the fin effect of the thermocouple sheath. To eliminate the bias errors, we proposed a calibration method based on both the local heat flux and Reynolds number of the cooling water. The calibration method was validated with the measurement of local heat flux and wall temperature against experimental data obtained for single-phase convection and two-phase condensation flows inside the tube. In the manuscript, Section 1 introduces the importance of local heat flux and wall temperature measurement, Section 2 explains the experimental setup, and Section 3 provides the measured data, causes of measurement errors, and the developed calibration method.

This study focused on condensation heat transfer for the separated flow in nearly horizontal pipes in which two different heat transfer mechanisms are involved. In the top of the tube inside, a new film condensation heat transfer correlation based on Nusselt analysis was proposed by means of regression analysis with experimental data to add vapor Reynolds number. In the bottom of the tube, Dittus and Boelter(1930) correlation was applied as a convective heat transfer correlation for the condensate. Reynolds numbers in both heat transfer correlations were based on actual mean velocities. The void fraction was calculated from the one-dimensional separated flow model to determine overall heat transfer coefficient as the weighted average. The closure relations for the shear stress terms in the SFM adopted single-phase based expressions and a geometric relation for the interfacial shape in the separated flows was modeled by eccentric circles to define a concave interface. Comparison with available experimental data shows a good agreement.

Spinal cavernous hemangiomas of the cauda equina are extremely rare vascular malformations. We report a case of intradural extramedullary cavernous hemangioma of the cauda equina with it's clinical, radiologic and surgical findings. This is the twelveth case of cavernous hemangioma of the cauda equina in the literature. The pertinent literatures are reviewed.
