The aim of this study is to estimate the compressive force of steel member using a system identification technique with vibration measurements. To date, several methods have been presented to estimate the compressive force using static and/or dynamic responses of the steel member. However, each and every one of these methods has its disadvantages as well as advantages in its procedures, level of accuracy, and equipment requirements. The paper reports a qualitative investigation of vibration under monoharmonic excitation. The methodology utilizes the relationship between the natural frequencies, the structural parameters, and the compressive force of the member. In this paper, experimental results are presented with a steel beam subjecting to several compressive forces and the proposed method is validated using both numerical and experimental data.

The underground method can be divided into Top-Down, Semi-Top-Down, Up-Up and Down-Up methods according to the construction order of the upper and lower structures. Among them, the Down-Up method proceeds with the construction of the first floor and its lower floors, and when the foundation is completed, the vertical members of the basement are sequentially completed from the foundation and the above-ground floor is constructed. In this paper, the crack reduction method around the open section of the Down-Up method affected by earth pressure was analyzed and divided into design and construction parts.

A lot of push-out test results of studs in normal strength concrete have been presented. So present design methods in the codes for the calculation of the shear strength of studs are based on the test results of studs embedded in normal strength concrete. But knowledge of the load-slip behavior and the shear capacity of the stud in high strength concrete are limited to data obtained from the experimental push-off tests. So It is necessirary to evaluate the shear capacity of studs embedded in high strength concrete for the appropriate design code. Because it shows that the concrete compressive strength significantly affects the strength of the stud connections. In this paper, it was performed push-out test of shear studs in high strength concrete used in construction of high-rise building. Test results are compared with them calculated from current design codes.

A lot of push-out tests of shear studs embedded in normal strength concrete were conducted. So current design code methods of the shear studs are based on the test results of studs embedded in normal strength concrete. It also appeared that the strength of connector and the concrete strength are the main factors affecting the behavior of shear connections. But push-out test data of studs embedded in high strength concrete is insufficient until today. So it is necessary to evaluate the load-slip behavior and the shear capacity of studs embedded in high strength concrete for the appropriate design code. In this paper, it was performed push-out tests of shear studs embedded in high strength concrete and fiber reinforced concrete used widely in high-rise building. Experimental push-out tests were used to evaluate both the shear stud capacity and the load-slip curve of the connector. And the results of the finite element model are compared with push-out tests and the values given in current codes of practice.

High rise buildings vibrate sensitively by the strong wind with reduction of weight and damping ratio recently. As increased the high rise buildings, a lot of people appeal the problems in serviceability caused by intensive vibration of building when strong wind has passed. In this paper, the active mass damper (AMD) which adopts the H∞ control algorithm is designed and applied to a exist building structure. This may be the first full-scale application of AMD to the existing building in the world. Two AMDs, which have 20 ton mass and 10 ton mass for x-axis and y-axis, respectively, are installed on the roof of the builidng structure, and those AMDs are design to control not only transverse response but also even torsion responses. In order to verify the performance of the AMD system, the controlled responses of the building structure are measured during a typhoon passes through the Korean Peninsula and compared with the uncontrolled responses obtained by a numerical simulation.

This research accomplished the seismic perfomance evaluation in the domestiv airport facility underground parking by the seismic design standard of airport facility. The seismic perfomance evaluation for the design ground motion decision and liquefaction was accomplished in the two-dimensional elastic-plastic dynamic analysis. This study presented analysis model, analysis methed and design procedure suited to perfomance level.

This paper presents an application of the active mass damper (AMD) system to a high-rise building structure. The building has five basement floors with SRC structural system and 26 floors with steel structure system, and which makes inherent low damping ratio. To figure out the reason of the occupants’ discomfort, the preliminary field measurement was performed and additionally the wind tunnel test was carried out. The AMD system was selected to reduce the wind-induced vibration so that the serviceability of the building is assured. It is the first application of AMD for residential building in the country. Usually, the vibration control devices have been planned and implemented during construction stage. On the other hand, in this project the AMD system was implemented to the building in-use and this may be the first full-scale application of AMD to the existing building in the world. The two AMDs were implemented in June 2007 and the performance tests were also carried out. This paper mainly focuses on the performance test under the strong winds due to typhoon NARI in 2007.
