연골모세포종은 골단에서 기원하는 연골형성 양성 종양이다. 중족골의 기저부는 골단 또는 이차 골화중심을 갖고 있지 않기 때문에 연골모세포종의 발생이 드물다. 저자들은 34세 남자의 다섯번째 중족골의 기저에서 발생한 연골모세포종 1예를 경험하였기에 보고한다. 조직학적 검사에서 파골세포와 닮은 거대세포가 거대세포종과 유사할 정도로 풍부하였으며 연골모양 세포사이 기질이 섞여 관찰되었으나 그 양이 적었다. 그러나 배경의 단핵세포는 연골모세포로의 분화의 증거로서 불규칙하며 만입된 핵을 보였고 면역조직화학 검사에서 S-100 단백에 양성 반응을 보였다. Chondroblastoma is a benign chondroid-forming tumor usually originating in the epiphysis. The base of metatarsal bone contains neither an epiphysis nor a secondary ossification center and so is the rare site of chondroblastoma. Here, we present a case of chondroblastoma of the base of fifth metatarsal bone in 34-year-old man. Histologically, the osteoclast-like giant cells were abundant enough to simulate a giant cell tumor. And the chondroid intercellular matrix was intermixed but scanty. However, the background mononuclear cells showed irregular and indented nuclei with longitudinal clefts and positive immunoreactivity for S-100 protein, as the evidence of chondroblasts.
장간막에서 발생한 염증성 근섬유모세포종의 세침흡인 세포학적 소견 - 1예 보고 -

Since inflammatory myofibroblastic turner was initially recognized in the lung, this tumor has been described in other extrapulmonary sites. In spite of relatively uniform histologic findings in various organs, a rarity in extrapulmonary sites and highly vascular characteristics frequently lead to a misdiagnosis in preoperative radiology and fine needle aspiration cytology. We present a case of inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor occurring in the mesentery of a 4-month-old girl. Fine needle aspiration cytology smear disclosed characteristic spindle cells intermixed with prominent mature plasma cells and lymphocytes. According to the immunohistochemical staining, we recognized that the intervening spindle cells are myofibroblasts which have reactivity for the both actin and vimentin.
Primary Extrauterine Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma in the Sigmoid Colon

An endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is an uncommon uterine neoplasm, and its primary occurrence in the intestine as an extrauterine ESS (EESS) is exceedingly rare. We hereby report a primary EESS arising in the sigmoid colon with a review of the literature. A 52-year-old woman presented with bloody stool and underwent a colon fiberscopy, which revealed a fungating mass obstructing the lumen at the distal sigmoid. A laparoscopic low anterior resection was performed, and an umbilicated polypoid mass was identified; on section, it had infiltrated the mesocolic fat and measured 3.8 cm × 2.5 cm. The tumor showed geographic sheets or nests composed of relatively monotonous stromal cells, expansion or infiltration to the proper muscle and mesocolic fat, and extensive lymphovascular invasion and metastasis to regional lymph nodes and the pelvic peritoneum. The tumor cells were strongly and diffusely immunoreactive for CD10, but negative for c-kit, CD34, and Dog1. Two months later, a hysterectomy with a bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy was performed, and no evidence of an ESS was found in the uterus.

The diagnosis of mucinous adenocarcinoma of the prostate (MAP) requires that at least 25% of the tumor consists of pools of extracellular mucin. According to the above criteria, MAP is rare and about 70 cases have been reported in literature. Here we report a case of MAP arising in a 70-year-old man. In the present case, the proportion of the mucinous component was up to 95% of the total tumor volume, and Gleason’s score is 8 (4+4). The tumor cells were prostatic specific antigen (PSA)-immunoreactive in mucinous and nonmucinous components. Despite the mucin pools, the tumor cells themselves failed to stain with any of the mucin stains.

Eugenol (4-allyl-2-methoxyphenol) is a natural phenolic constituent extensively used in dentistry as a component of zinc oxide eugenol cement and is applied to the mouth environment. Chios gum mastic (CGM) is a resinous exudate obtained from the stem and the main leaves of Pistacia lenticulus tree native to Mediterranean areas. This study was undertaken to investigate the synergistic apoptotic effect of co-treatment with a natural product, CGM and natural phenolic compound, eugenol on SCC25 human tongue squamous cell carcinoma cell line. To investigate whether the co-treatment with eugenol and CGM compared to each single treatment efficiently reduces the viability of SCC25 cells, MTT assay was conducted. Induction and augmentation of apoptosis were confirmed by Hoechst staining, TUNEL staining and DNA hypoploidy. Westen blot analysis and immunofluorescent staining were performed to study the alterations of the expression level and the translocation of apoptosis-related proteins in co-treatment. In this study, co-treatment of with eugenol and CGM on SCC25 cells showed several lines of apoptotic manifestation such as nuclear condensations, DNA fragmentation, the increase and decrease of Bax and Bcl-2, decrease of DNA content, the release of cytochrome c into cytosol, translocation of AIF and DFF40 (CAD) onto nuclei, and activation of caspase-3, caspase-6 caspase-7, caspase-9, PARP, Lamin A/C and DFF45 (ICAD) whereas each single treated SCC25 cells did not show or very slightly these patterns. Although the single treatment of 40 ${\mu}g$/ml CGM and 0.5 mM eugenol for 24 h did not induce apoptosis, the co-treatment of these reagents prominently induced apoptosis. Therefore our data provide the possibility that combination therapy with CGM and eugenol could be considered as a novel therapeutic strategy for human oral squamous cell carcinoma.
A Widely Tunable K-band Voltage-Controlled Oscillator

A wideband LC voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) using a 3-bit switched-capacitor bank is proposed for improving the frequency bandwidth in K-band applications. The capacitor bank is composed of metal-oxide-metal (MOM) capacitors to obtain a high-quality factor of the LC tank. The size of the unit capacitor in the capacitor bank is optimized to achieve a wide tuning range. The fabricated chip area is 400 µm × 610 µm by using the TSMC 65-nm RF CMOS process. The overall tuning range of the proposed VCO is from 18.82 to 23.28 GHz in measurement, and it consumes 46.4 mW, including a buffer stage at a 1 V supply voltage. The measured phase noise is −105.8 dBc/Hz at a 1-MHz offset frequency. A figure-of-merit (FOM) and FOM incorporating the tuning range (FOMT) are −179 dBc/Hz and −185.2 dBc/Hz at a 1-MHz offset from the center frequency, respectively.
An outbreak of hepatitis A associated with salted clams in Busan, Korea

OBJECTIVES: In July 2019, there were multiple reports on patients with hepatitis A among the visitors of a restaurant in Busan. The current study presents the results of an epidemiological investigation and outlines the supplementary measures that would help with hepatitis A control. METHODS: A cohort study was conducted for all 2,865 customers who visited restaurant A from June to July. Using a standardized questionnaire, participants reported the presence of hepatitis A symptoms and whether they had consumed any of 19 food items. As for participants who had visited public health centers, their specimens were collected. RESULTS: From the study cohort, 155 participants (5.4%) had confirmed hepatitis A. The epidemic curve was unimodal, and the median number of days from the restaurant visit to symptom onset was 31 days. A genotype analysis indicated that 89 of 90 tested patients had hepatitis A virus (HAV) genotype 1A. The results of a multivariate logistic regression analysis indicated that the ingestion of salted clams increased the risk of hepatitis A by 68.12 times (95% confidence interval [CI], 9.22 to 510.87). In an unopened package of salted clams found and secured through traceback investigation, HAV genotype 1A was detected. CONCLUSIONS: To prevent people from ingesting uncooked clams, there needs to be more efforts to publicize the dangers of uncooked clams; the food sampling test standards for salted clams should also be expanded. Furthermore, a laboratory surveillance system based on molecular genetics should be established to detect outbreaks earlier.
