Cough is not only serves to maintain normal function of respiratory tract, but also many diseases may lead to this symptom. In Korean medicine, Zhudanxi(朱丹溪), was the first to classify cough according to the different stages of time. In this research, I investigated the stage of Nocturnal Cough(夜嗽) through 26 oriental medical books. As a result, deficiency of Yin(陰虛) was the most common causes of Nocturnal Cough and indigestion(食積) is the next. Liuweidihuang-tang(六味地黃湯) prescribed as the treatment for Yin Xu(陰虛) and Xeibaisan-jiawei(瀉白散加味) prescribed as the treatment for indigestion(食積).

Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of Gamisagunja-tang(GS) on the airway hyper-reactivity (AHR), cytokine production and T cell activation during the ovalbumin (OVA)-induced allergic asthma in mice. Materials and Methods : BALB/c mice were sensitized and challenged with 100 mg of OVA and 1 mg of aluminum potassium sulfate intraperitoneally on days 1 and 7. On day 14, mice were challenged on 3 consecutive days with 5% OVA. AHR and bronchoalveolar fluid (BALF), total inflammatory cell count and the production of cytokines were measured. Results : GS significantly suppressed the infiltration of inflammatory cells in the lung tissue and AHR. GS significantly down regulated the production of IL-4, IL-5 and increases of $INF-{\gamma}$ in BALF. GS reduced the population of eosinophils from lung and spleen in OVA-induced allergic asthma. GS reduced the population of $CD4^{+}$ $CD69^{+}$ $CD25^{-}$ T cells in OVA-induced allergic asthma Conclusion : These results suggest that GS may inhibit the production of IL-4, IL-5 and infiltration of eosinophils and be beneficial oriental medicine for allergic asthma.

Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is characterized by progressive scarring of the lung leading to restriction and diminished oxygen transfer. Clinically, the presenting symptoms of ILD are nonspecific (cough and progressive dyspnea on exertion) and are often attributed to other diseases, thus delaying diagnosis and timely therapy. In this study, I analyzed the 10 chinese papers of interstitial lung diseases(ILD). The etiology are body resistance weakness(本虛) and pathogenic factor prevailing(標實). The body resistance weakness(本虛) including deficiency of the lung(肺虛), deficiency of the kidney(腎虛), deficiency of the spleen(脾虛), deficiency of Qi and Yin(氣陰兩虛), pathogenic factor prevailing(標實) including stagnation of phlegm(痰濁), blood stasis(瘀血), noxious heat(熱毒). As an treatment aim at supplementing lung and kidney(益肺腎), resolving phlegm and blood stasis(化痰瘀).
