Pulmonary tumor thrombotic microangiopathy (PTTM) is a rare, malignancy-related complication that causes marked pulmonary hypertension, right heart failure, and death. We report on a patient with locally advanced breast cancer whose course was complicated by fatal PTTM based on clinical and laboratory findings.

Researchers have identified emotional intelligence (EI) as an important individual characteristic that predicts interpersonal effectiveness. In this study, we identified three potential areas of emotion management (emotion expression, emotion recognition, and shaping counterpart emotion) that may be promoted by intrapersonal and interpersonal EI, and may mediate the effects of EI on interpersonal process and outcomes. Our analysis of data from a dyadic negotiation simulation indicates that EI predicts one aspect of emotion management (shaping counterpart emotion). Intrapersonal EI (but not interpersonal EI) increased counterpart positive emotion and decreased counterpart negative emotion during the negotiation simulation. Nevertheless, the overall relationship between EI and emotion management was weak. The present study highlighted the need for clearly conceptualizing and investigating emotional management through which individuals accrue interpersonal and performance benefits.

A new series of methotrexate analogues was prepared in which the beta-position of the glutamic acid moiety is substituted by the aryl groups. The glutamic acid moiety was modified in order to enhance the lipophilic property. Reaction of N-acetylglicine ester[1] with ethyl 3-arylacrylate derivatives[2] produced trans-3-aryl-2-carboxy-5-pyrrolidone derivatives[3], which were hydrolyzed to give beta-aryl-glutamic acid derivatives[4]. The compounds[4] were treated with the p-aminobenzoic acid moiety and then with the pteridine ring moiety to give beta-arylmethotrexate derivatives[6,7]. These compounds were tested for antibacterial activity against Streptococcus faecium and for antitumor activity against murine leukemias and against human tumor cell lines in vitro. Several compounds showed significant antibacterial activity.
국립암센터에서 동정된 적혈구 비예기항체의 빈도 및 분포

Background: Performing antibody screening and identification tests before blood transfusion are important since unexpected red cell antibodies can cause acute or delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions. We investigated the frequency and distribution of unexpected red cell antibodies that were detected in cancer patients at National Cancer Center (NCC) and we compared our results with the previously published data. Methods: From January 2001 to June 2009, 56,660 sera of the cases from NCC were screened and 197 sera were identified with using the Ortho BioVue System (Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Raritan, USA) and the conventional tube method. In case of the presence of autoantibody, the ZZAP method was performed to distinguish alloantibody from autoantibody. Results: 759 cases (1.34%) showed positive results out of all 56,660 cases that underwent unexpected antibodies screening. Among them, unexpected antibodies were identified in 197 cases. The most frequently detected antibody was anti-Lea in 62 cases (31.47%), followed by anti-E in 32 cases (16.24%) and anti-Leb in 18 cases (9.14%). Unidentified antibodies were detected in 43 cases (21.83%). In the cases with a previous history of transfusion at the NCC and the screening results were altered from negative to positive, anti-E was the most frequently detected antibody (8/30 cases, 26.67%), and this included the mixed antibodies. Conclusion: Compared with the previous reports, this study showed that the frequency and distribution of the unexpected red cell antibodies of cancer patients were not different from those of general patients. Moreover, there was no apparent difference of frequency of the unexpected red cell antibodies among the diagnosed cancers. Our research may provide data for the frequency and characteristics of red cell antibodies because we targeted only cancer patients. 배경: 비예기 항체는 급성 및 지연성 수혈 부작용을 일으키는 원인이 되므로 수혈 전 비예기항체 선별 및 동정검사는 매우 중요하다. 저자들은 국립암센터에서 적혈구 비예기항체의 빈도 및 분포를 조사하고 기존의 연구 결과와 비교하였다. 방법: 2001년 1월부터 2009년 6월까지 Ortho BioVue System (Ortho-Clinical Diagnostics, Raritan, USA)과 시험관법을 이용하여 본원에 선별검사가 의뢰된 56,660건을 대상으로 검사를 시행하였고, 197건을 동정하였다. 자가항체가 존재할 경우에는 ZZAP법을 이용하여 자가항체로부터 동종항체를 구별하였다. 결과: 선별검사가 시행된 56,660건 중 759건(1.34%)에서 양성을 보였고, 197건에서 비예기항체가 동정되었다. 가장 많은 빈도로 검출된 비예기항체는 항-Lea 62건(31.47%), 항-E 32건(16.24%), 그리고 항-Leb 18건(9.14%) 순이었다. 정확하게 동정되지 않은 항체는 43건(21.83%)이었다. 비예기항체 선별검사가 음성에서 양성으로 바뀐 수혈기왕력이 있는 30건 중 복합항체를 포함하여 항- E가 8건(26.67%)으로 가장 높은 빈도로 동정되었다. 결론: 이전에 보고된 연구 결과와 비교할 때 암환자와 다른 질환을 포함한 환자간 비예기항체의 빈도와 성상이 다르지 않았다. 더욱이 암종간의 빈도 차이도 뚜렷하지 않은 양상을 보였다. 암환자만을 대상으로 한 본 연구는 비예기 항체 빈도나 성상에 대한 기초 자료로서 이용될 수 있을 것으로 사료된다.

A series of 7-deazahypoxanthine and 7-deazaadenine derivatives[6,7.8.9.10,13] as purine antagonists was prepared. The pyrrolidine-5-one derivatives[4,11] were treated vith (C2H5)3OBF4 to give 3-aryl-5-ethoxy-2H-3,4-dihydropyrrole[5,12], which were converted to 7-aryl-7,8-dihydro-7(9H)-deazahy-poxanthine[6,7,8,9,10] and 7-phenyl-2-methyl-7,8- dihydro-7(9H)-deazaadenine[13].
