Objective: Present study was aimed to verify the effect of granulocyte macrophage-colony stimulating factor (GM-CSF) in the preimplantation development of mouse embryos and the involvement of the mitogen activated protein kiase (MAPK) in the GM-CSF signaling. Methods: Two-cell embryos were cultured for 96 h in the presence or absence of GM-CSF (0, 0.4, 2, 10 ng/ml) and PD98059, a MEK inhibitor (10 ${\mu}M$). Morphological development, cell number per blastocyst, and apoptotic nuclei, were eamined. MAPK activity of embryonic immunoprecipitate by MAPK (ERK1/2) antibody was measured by in vitro phosphorylation of myelin basic protein. Results: At post hCG 122 h the embryonic development among the experimental groups was significantly different (p=0.018). The rate of blastocyst development and cell number per embryo were the highest in 2 ng/ml GM-CSF treatment group. The percent of apoptotic cells of the GM-CSF-treated embryos was the lowest among the group. In blastocysts, GM-CSF treatment transiently increased MAPK activity. PD098059 attenuated the effect of GM-CSF on the morphological development, increase in cell number per blastocyst, down regulation of apoptosis, and upregulation of MAPK activity, suggesting that activation of MAPK cascade possibly mediated the embryotropic effect of GM-CSF. Conclusion: This result suggested that GM-CSF potentiated the development of preimplantation mouse embryos by activation of MAPK.

The purpose of this study was to explore how mothers in middle-age experienced their son's separation due to the mandatory services in the anny through mothers' own perspectives. Twenty middle-aged mothers who had a son served in military obligation were interviewed in depth. They had different experiences related to separation from their sons and were classified into three types, 'separation acceptors', 'ambivalents', 'separation refusers'. Separation acceptors positively defined that life event which caused separation from their sons temporarily, and adjusted to the transition relatively well. Ambivalent mothers reported difficulties for long days after their son left to the army, on the other hand, they appraised their son's military experiences positively as times went by. Although refusers were very few, they evaluated separation experiences negatively and were very anxious even afterwards. Each types of mothers experienced their separation differently due to several factors such as making sense of the life event which caused son's separation, psychological readiness, prior separation experiences, substitute roles and activities, emotional support from their families and friends, and their son's adjustment to military life.
2014 Journal of Integrated Design Research (JIDR) Vol.13 No.4
This study aims to discover local culture and create cultural and tourism content in the Dongdaemun area, including the DDP(Dongdaemun Design Plaza). Among tourists to Korea, the Dongdaemun area is ranked as the second best tourist spot with the second most popular attractions, and roughly 60 percent of visitors to Seoul flock to this commercial district. However, the majority of them come here to shop for clothes rather than experience Korean culture and history through the area"s traditional markets and food and historical alleys and relics. Most tour guide books and maps that introduce Dongdaemun focus heavily on the modern fashion malls in the area. I conducted research on the history of Heunginjimun, which is commonly referred to as Dongdaemun, and the surrounding area, and paid a visit in person to discover the various cultural characteristics of the area. I then developed a classification system to analyze and classify the tourism-related data I had collected. I organized the local culture of the Dongdaemun area into five categories, including history/relics, traditional markets/alleys, culture and art, shopping, and landscape, and created diverse content, including a three-hour tour route and various itineraries based on traditional markets and alleys. It is hoped that this study can provide visitors to the Dongdaemun area, including the DDP, with a wealth of information about the area so that they may experience the cultural value that Dongdaemun possesses, as well as contribute to preserving and developing the local culture and vitalizing local businesses.
