동대문 활성화를 위한 지역 역사문화 답사 콘텐츠 개발 연구

본 연구는 2014년 3월 개관한 동대문과 DDP(동대문디자인플라자)를 중심으로 패션 쇼핑 뿐 아니라 문화 역사 콘텐츠의 중심지로서의 지역 동반 상생 및 활성화를 위하여, 지역문화에 대한 방문객의 흥미를 유발시키고 쉽게 이해할 수 있는 지역문화 조사 발굴과 답사 콘텐츠를 개발하는 것에 목적이 있다. 동대문 지역은 서울을 방문하는 관광객의 60%가 방문하고 있으며 한국여행의 주요 방문지 중 2위이자, 좋았던 관광지 2위를 기록하고 있다. 그러나 지금까지 동대문 지역이 가진 많은 역사유적과 전통시장, 먹거리, 골목 등의 독특한 지역문화의 경험보다는 패션관련 쇼핑 목적에 한정된 방문이 대다수였고, 동대문 지역을 소개하는 대부분의 관광안내서와 지도는 현대적 패션상가 소개 위주로 구성되었다. 지역문화는 동대문으로 통칭되는 흥인지문 인근의 역사와 발달사, 현황을 살펴보고 현장 방문을 실시하여 발굴하였다. 이를 통해 분류체계를 마련해 분석하고, 관광 및 방문정보와 각각에 얽힌 이야기를 확인하였다. 동대문 지역문화를 5개 분류체계로 역사/유적, 전통시장/골목, 문화예술, 쇼핑, 경관의 위계를 구분하였다. 또한 답사 콘텐츠 개발에 앞서, 지역의 정보를 모두 포함하기 보다는 역사 문화 중심의 지역적인 테마에 부합하는 정보를 역사/유적, 시장/골목, 예술/문화, 쇼핑으로 체계화하였다. 동대문 주변 지역이 가진 역사와 문화 이야기를 볼 수 있는 전통시장과 골목 중심으로 지역문화 답사 콘텐츠를 제시하였다. 본 연구결과가 동대문과 DDP를 찾는 시민과 관광객에게 이 지역만의 지역문화 답사 정보를 제공하고 문화적 가치를 경험케 하는 데에 활용할 수 있는 기반 자료가 되길 바라며, 나아가 지역문화를 보존, 발전시키고 지역 상권을 활성화하는 간접효과에 이르기를 기대한다. This study aims to discover local culture and create cultural and tourism content in the Dongdaemun area, including the DDP(Dongdaemun Design Plaza). Among tourists to Korea, the Dongdaemun area is ranked as the second best tourist spot with the second most popular attractions, and roughly 60 percent of visitors to Seoul flock to this commercial district. However, the majority of them come here to shop for clothes rather than experience Korean culture and history through the area"s traditional markets and food and historical alleys and relics. Most tour guide books and maps that introduce Dongdaemun focus heavily on the modern fashion malls in the area. I conducted research on the history of Heunginjimun, which is commonly referred to as Dongdaemun, and the surrounding area, and paid a visit in person to discover the various cultural characteristics of the area. I then developed a classification system to analyze and classify the tourism-related data I had collected. I organized the local culture of the Dongdaemun area into five categories, including history/relics, traditional markets/alleys, culture and art, shopping, and landscape, and created diverse content, including a three-hour tour route and various itineraries based on traditional markets and alleys. It is hoped that this study can provide visitors to the Dongdaemun area, including the DDP, with a wealth of information about the area so that they may experience the cultural value that Dongdaemun possesses, as well as contribute to preserving and developing the local culture and vitalizing local businesses.
