Molecular Detection and Genetic Diversity of Blastocystis in Korean Dogs

Blastocystis is a genus of unicellular heterokont parasites belonging to a group of organisms known as Stramenopiles, which includes algae, diatoms, and water molds. Blastocystis includes several species that habitat in the gastrointestinal tracts of organisms as diverse as humans, farm animals, birds, rodents, reptiles, amphibians, fish, and cockroaches. It is important to public health and distributed globally, but its prevalence in dogs in Korea has not been reported to date. Here, we collected 787 canine fecal samples and assessed Blastocystis infection by age, sex, region, season, and diarrhea symptoms. We determined Blastocystis subtypes using phylogenetic analyses based on 18S rRNA gene sequences. We identified, 10 Blastocystis positive samples (1.3%). A higher proportion of infected dogs was asymptomatic; however, infection rates did not significantly differ according to region, age, sex, and season. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the Blastocystis sp. identified belonged to 4 subtypes (STs), ST1, ST5, ST10, and ST14, thus revealed the genetic diversity of Blastocystis sp. in dogs Korean. This is first report on the presence of Blastocystis sp. in dogs Korean. This study revealed a lower infection rate than expected and differed from previous studies in STs. Further studies are warranted to observe the national infection status of Blastocystis in dogs and the genetic characteristics of this genus.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to examine the effects of electroacupuncture(EA) at the $H_7$ (Shinmun) on normal humans using power spectral analysis. Methods : EEG power spectrum exhibit site-specific and state-related differences in specific frequency bands. In this study, power spectrum was used as a measure of complexity. 32 channel EEG study was carried out in 9 subjects (9 males; age=25,8 years). Results : In alpha band, the power values at Fp2 channels(p<0.05) during the $H_7-acupoint$ treatment significantly were decreased. In beta band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2 channels(p<0.05) during the $H_7-acupoint$ treatment significantly were decreased. In delta and theta band, the power values at the $H_7-acupoint$ treatment significantly was increased than the before-acupuncture treatment. Conclusions : This results suggest that electroacupuncture at the $H_7$ is significantly in beta band of EEG.

In this paper, we have designed and simulated a new PMTUD(path MTU discovery) method. In traditional PMTUD method (RFC-1981), the sender transmits a packet with a MTU to the destination link. Then the packet is forwarded to the destination. During forwarding operations, if the packet is larger than the MTU of destination link, then the router send ICMP error message to the sender. The sender retransmit packet with the indicated length. These procedures are continued until the source finds the PMTU. This method has a drawback that the time needed to find a PMTU is long. In proposed methods, the sender send packet with a small length regardless of the destination link MTU. The option field of this packet has a smallest MTU field, and the router changes this value if MTU of next hop is less than received value. Destination host replies with this value. After receiving the response message from the destination, the sender knows the PMTU. In this paper, we have presented a designed method and the simulated result.

Hybrid Control System for Managing Voltage and Reactive Power in the JEJU Power System

This paper proposes a hybrid voltage controller based on a hierarchical control structure for implementation in the Jeju power system. The hybrid voltage controller utilizes the coordination of various reactive power devices such as generators, switched shunt devices and LTC to regulate the pi-lot voltage of an area or zone. The reactive power source can be classified into two groups based on ac-tion characteristics, namely continuous and discrete. The controller, which regulates the pilot bus volt-age, reflects these characteristics in the coordination of the two types of reactive power source. How-ever, the continuous type source like generators is a more important source than the discrete type for an emergency state such as a voltage collapse, thereby requiring a more reactive power reserve of the con-tinuous type to be utilized in the coordination in order to regulate the pilot bus voltage. Results show that the hybrid controller, when compared to conventional methods, has a considerable improvement in performance when adopted to control the pilot bus voltage of the Jeju island system.
