The economic and environmental benefits of wind turbine-kerosene generator hybrid power systems have been analyzed for stand-alone electricity supply and desalination in Hong-do, South Korea using a microgrid simulation program. We have analyzed the cost effectiveness of wind-hybrid systems in relation to the sensitivity of the designed power grid to increased electricity demand, increased or decreased fuel price, and decreased wind turbine capital cost. The environmental impacts of the wind-hybrid grid are also evaluated in respect of pollutant emission. As a result, we have clearly confirmed that the optimized wind-hybrid system can save on the total cost by almost half at a wide range of the wind speed, and fuel and capital costs compared to the current generator-only system. Operation of the desalination facility during the non-tourist season utilizing surplus wind electricity has been proven to be beneficiary. An increased wind speed necessitates less dependence on wind turbines and generators since batteries can store a sufficient amount of excessive electricity that can be used during periods of electricity generation deficit. Wind hybrid systems are also expected to yield significant environmental benefits.

Optimization of the fabrication process of NiO-yttrium doped barium zirconate (BZY) composite anode substrates using tapecasting for high performance thin-film protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) is investigated. The anode substrate is composed of a tens of microns-thick anode functional layer laminated over a porous anode substrate. The macro-pore structure of the anode support is induced by micron-scale polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) pore formers. Thermal gravity analysis (TGA) and a dilatometer are used to determine the polymeric additive burn-out and sintering temperatures. Crystallinity and microstructure of the tape-cast NiO-BZY anode are analyzed after the sintering.
3D Evaluation of Porous Zeolite Absorbents using FIB-SEM Tomography

An accurate characterization of the microstructure is of great importance in manufacturing zeolites for their appropriate use and optimal performance. Here, an analytical methodology suitable for the complex porous structures of zeolites using focused ion beam (FIB) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) tomography is demonstrated. For this analysis, a commercial zeolite absorbent is chosen, which is composed of a single zeolite bead filled with small internal beads, like eggs in a brood pouch. Some of the internal zeolite beads and their surrounding pore structures have been precisely reconstructed as three-dimensional (3D) image forms over the micro-scale through FIB-SEM, and the microstructural properties such as particle/pore sizes, specific volume, and surface area are numerically evaluated from the image analysis. This study describes the details of the characterization process from sample preparation to image analysis and discusses major factors influencing the results.

Glomus tympanicum tumors, are benign tumors of neural crest cell origin. They can spread throughout the mesotympanum, hypotympanum, and mastoid causing symptoms of pulsatile tinnitus, conductive hearing loss. The surgical approach is determined by the extent of tumor involvement in the mesotympanum, hypotympanum, and mastoid. A transcanal or postauricular approach with the operating microscope is the traditional means used to surgically manage middle ear paragangliomas. Transcanal endoscopic ear surgery, an emerging minimally invasive approach that offers superior visualization of the middle ear cleft. We experienced a case of glomus tympanicum tumor in 77 year-old female with several year-history of intermittent pulsatile tinnitus and earfullness which was surgically removed through Transcanal endoscopic approach.

Although there were a lot of attentions and studies, no one knows what exactly Silhak is. In this thesis, I will consider what Silhak is and what it should be through Yeoam Shin Gyeongjoon's philosophy. First of all, he insists that we have to recognize ourselves. Because it leads us figure out our strengths and weaknesses. And then, if we learn good thing from other countries and adjust it to our circumstances, we can improve our condition. Like this, Shin Gyeongjoon put his efforts into a practical study. And his philosophy is based on this idea. This shows that Silhak Mind is only completed when it realizes study for others based on study for self-improvement. 그 동안 실학에 대한 높은 관심과 수많은 연구 결과물에도 불구하고, 실학을 한 마디로 단정하기는 쉽지 않다. 이에 본 논문에서는 부족하게나마 여암 신경준의 철학사상을 통해 시대를 관통하는 실학정신은 무엇이고, 또 무엇이어야 하는지 알아본다. 신경준은 먼저 우리를 제대로 알 것을 주문했다. 그래야 우리의 장단점을 알 수 있기 때문이다. 그런 후 남의 좋은 것을 배워 우리에게 적용하면, 우리의 장점은 더욱 살리고 단점은 개선할 수 있다고 보았다. 이처럼 신경준은 사람들에게 실질적으로 도움이 되는 학문으로써 실학을 추구했고, 그러한 그의 생각은 철학을 함에 있어서도 고스란히 드러난다. 이를통해 실학정신은 위기지학을 바탕으로 한 다른 의미의 위인지학, 곧 진정다른 사람을 위한 학문을 실현할 때 비로소 완성됨을 알 수 있다.
