Eleven new compounds that are composed of bis(p-substituted phenyl) terephthalate unitand the decyloxy pendant as lateral were synthesized and their thermal and liquid crystalline properties were studied by the differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and on a hot-stage of a polarizing microscope. The ter-minal substituent groups of the compound were varied; X= -H(II-H), -F(lI-F), -CII(II-CI), -Br(ll-Br), -I(II-I), -$NO_2(lI-NO_2$), $-CF_3(II-CF_3$), -$OC_2H_5(II-OC_2H_5$), -$OC_4H_9(II-OC_4H_9$), -$C_6H_5(Il-C_6H_5$). The compounds of $II-OC_2H_5,\;II-OC_4H_9$ and $II-C_6H_5$ were monotropically nematic. In contrast, the compounds of Il-H, II-F, II-Cl, II-Br, II-I, $lI-NO_2$, $II-CF_3$, and II-CN did not show liquid crystalline properties. 비스(파라-치환페닐)테레프탈산 에스테르의 중앙 테레프탈산 벤젠고리 측면에 데실옥시기가 결합하고 있는 열한개의 새로운 화합물을 합성하였고, 이들의 열적 및 액정 성질을 DSC와 가열판이 부착된 편광현미경을 사용하여 조사하였다. 메소겐의 말단 치환기 X= -H(II-H), -F(II-F), -Cl(Il-Cl), -Br(Il-Br), -I(II-I), -$NO_2(lI-NO_2$), $-CF_3(II-CF_3$), -$OC_2H_5(II-OC_2H_5$), -$OC_4H_9(II-OC_4H_9$), -CN(II-CN) 및 -$C_6H_5(Il-C_6H_5$)로 바꾸었다. $II-OC_2H_5,\;II-OC_4H_9$, 및 $II-C_6H_5$는 단방성 네마틱 액정이었으며, II-H, lI-F, II-Cl, Il-Br, II-I, $II-NO_2$, $II-CF_3$, 및 Il-CN은 액정이 아니었다.
선모(仙茅) 열수(熱水) 추출물의 Collagen 유발 관절염에 대한 약리 효능 연구

Objectives:In Korean medicine, Curculiginis Rhizoma was treated for arthritis in remedy. But efficacy of Curculiginis Rhizoma on collagen induced arthritis was not revealed. Methods:Anti inflammatory effect of Curculiginis Rhizoma was researched in vitro with RAW264.7 cell and cell toxicity, levels of proinflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6 and IL-12) and PGE2 were analyzed by ELISA assay. Inflammatory protein were analyzed by western blotting assay (JNK, ERK, COX-2, TNF-α and IL-1β). In vivo, collagen induced arthritis mice model was used to evaluate anti-inflammation effect through arthritis index, immune cell number and cytokine levels (TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-1β) in serum. Results:ECR(Extract of Curculiginis Rhizoma) has not shown cell toxicity in 200 ㎍/㎖ on RAW264.7 cell. ECR suppressed releases of NO, TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, IL-12 and PGE2 on RAW264.7 cell treated with lipopolysacharide (1 ㎍/㎖). And ECR inhibited regulation of TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6 mRNA, reduced protein release of JNK, ERK, iNOS, COX-2, IL-1β and TNF-α. AI of group treated with ECR 200 ㎎/㎏ and 100 ㎎/㎏ were significantly decreased compared to vihicle arthritis mice, the number of immune cell in foot joint was increased on control mice but those of group treated with ECR 200 ㎎/㎏ and 100 ㎎/㎏ were significantly reduced. This results correspond with contens of cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6) in serum. Conclusions:Curculiginis Rhizoma has anti-inflammation effect on RAW264.7 cell in vitro and collagen induced arthritis in vivo . So it is necessary to research more mechanism for cascade imfact.

PD의 저항성은 에폭시원형을 포함한 3종류 즉, 에폭시 마이크로 콤포지트를 실란처리 및 미처리한 경우 그리고 나노-마이크로입자가 혼합된 콤포지트의 부분방전저항성을 연구하였다. 이들 재료들은 rod - gap - plane 전극 하에서 PD가 적용 되었다. 원형에폭시수지보다 마이크로 콤포지트가 부분방전저항성이 우월하였다. 더욱이 SiO₂ 나노입자-마이크로 혼합된 콤포지트가 더욱더 큰 저항성을 얻었다. 이는 마이크로 입자사이로 나노입자가 치밀한 조직을 갖고 있기에 이러 우월한 특성을 나타낸 것으로 판단된다.
프락토올리고당과 이소말토올리고당을 첨가한 오미자청의 품질 특성 연구

본 연구에서는 오미자청 제조에 있어 설탕을 대체할 수 있는 당류 저감 소재를 사용하여 오미자청을 제조하고자 하였다. 오미자와 설탕, 프락토올리고당, 그리고 이소말토올리고당을 함량과 혼합 비율에 따라 다양한 청을 제조하였으며, 제조 후 저장 기간을 2주 간격으로 두어 생리활성을 평가하였다. 오미자청의 품질 특성을 분석한 결과 당도, 산도 및 당산비는 저장 기간에 따라 삼투압에 의해 오미자의 과실 내 수분이 용출되어 점차 감소하는 경향이 나타났으나, 당원에 따른 유의적인 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 총 페놀 함량은 설탕과 프락토올리고당을 혼합하여 제조한 오미자청 S7이 가장 높았으며, 저장 기간이 증가할수록 두 가지 이상의 올리고당을 혼합한 오미자청 S7-S10에서 높은 수치를 나타냈다. 총 플라보노이드 함량은 설탕으로 제조한 오미자청 S1에서 가장 높았으며, 그 다음으로 프락토올리고당으로 제조한 오미자청 S2가 높은 함량을 나타냈다. DPPH 라디칼 소거능은 설탕과 프락토올리고당을 혼합하여 제조한 오미자청 S7 처리구가 가장 높았고, 이소말토올리고당으로 제조한 오미자청 S3 처리구가 가장 낮았으나, ABTS 라디칼 소거능은 S3가 가장 높은 수치를 나타냈다. 마지막으로 α-glucosidase 저해활성은 설탕으로 제조한 오미자청 S1이 가장 저해 활성이 나타났지만, 낮은 pH에 대한 안전성을 나타내며 체내효소에 의해 흡수가 되지 않는 이소말토올리고당을 사용한 오미자청 S6이 당류 저감에 있어서 가장 실용적인 활용방안으로 판단된다. The purpose of this study is to prepare Omija cheong using sugar reducing materials such as fructooligosaccharide and isomaltooligosaccharide as a sucrose substitute. Sugar content, acidity, and sugar acid ratio were measured to evaluate the quality of the prepared syrup. Antioxidant activity, total phenol content, and total flavonoid content were measured to evaluate the physiological activity of the prepared Omija cheong. Acidity and sugar ratio tended to decrease gradually due to the eluting of water from the omija by osmotic pressure depending on the storage period, but there was no significant difference according to the sugar source. The total phenol content was highest in Omija cheong S7, prepared by mixing sugar and fructooligosaccharide; in S7-S10 containing two or more sweetners, the longer the storage period, the higher the total phenol content. Total flavonoid content was highest in S1 prepared from sugar, followed by S2 prepared from fructooligosaccharide. The DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical scavenging ability was the highest in S7, prepared by mixing sugar and fructooligosaccharide; and the lowest in S3, prepared with isomaltooligosaccharide. However, S3 showed the highest value in ABTS (2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid)) radical scavenging ability. S1 Omija cheong prepared from sugar showed the most inhibitory activity against α-glucosidase. S6 which was prepared using isomaltooligosaccharide that is not absorbed by internal enzymes, showed safety even at a low pH, and is considered to be the most practical method for sugar reduction.
백내장 수술 후 예상시력에 대한 망막시력계의 정확성 및 유의성

Purpose: To investigate the accuracy and usefulness of the retinal acuity meter (RAM) in predicting visual acuity after cataract surgery. Methods: We randomly selected 47 eyes from 43 patients who underwent cataract surgery in our clinic. Preoperative BCVA and 3 month postoperative BCVA were measured by the Snellen chart, and we recorded the preoperative visual acuity by RAM. We also grouped the patients according to diabetic retinopathy and preoperative BCVA 20/100. By comparing the expected visual acuity by RAM with actual postoperative BCVA values, we analyzed the accuracy of the RAM`s predictability after surgery. The cataract types and macular disease were taken under consideration when analyzing our results. Results: Of the 47 eyes in our study, the postoperative Snellen visual acuity was predictable within three lines (90.9%) in 11 eyes with diabetic retinopathy and without macular disease. In the 36 eyes without diabetic retinopathy, the postoperative Snellen visual acuity was predictable within three lines (91.6%) of the cases. In both groups, the preoperative RAM acuity and postoperative BCVA were significantly correlated (R2=0.692, R2=0.812, p<0.05). In 41 eyes with preoperative BCVA 20/100 or more, the postoperative Snellen visual acuity was highly predictable in 95.1% (R2=0.763, p<0.05). However, in 6 eyes with preoperative BCVA levels less than 20/100, the postoperative Snellen visual acuity was not predictable (66.6 %). In the patients with both nucleosclerosis and posterior subcapsular opacity and in the patients with additional cortical opacity, the postoperative BCVA differed from the preoperative RAM acuity by more than three lines on the Snellen chart. Conclusions: RAM is useful in predicting postoperative visual acuity in cataract patients, but may be unreliable in the patients with combined cataract forms or with preoperative BCVAs less than 20/100.
한국인 위암에서 Survivin과 HIAP-1 유전자 발현

Purpose: Dysregulation of apoptosis may attribute to development of cancer by abnormally prolonging cell viability with accumulation of transforming mutations. Survivin and HIAP (Human Inhibitors of Apoptosis)-1 were recently described as apoptosis inhibitors. Their pathogenic roles in gastric cancer are largely unknown. In the present study, we examined the expression of survivin and HIAP-1 in gastric cancer tissues and cell lines in order to elucidate the roles of survivin and HIAP-1 in the process of gastric carcinogenesis. Materials and Methods: Eight gastric cancer cell lines and five gastric cancer tissues were studied. The expression of survivin and HIAP-1 were evaluated by reverse transcription -polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), immunohistochemistry, and Western blot. Results: Western blot and RT-PCR analysis revealed survivin and HIAP-1 expression in all gastric cancer cell lines. Increased expression of survivin and HIAP-1 were found in all cases of gastric cancer tissues compared to normal tissues by Western blot analysis. In immunohistochemical analysis tumor cells were stained with anti-survivin and anti-HIAP-1 antibodies. Cell cycle dependence of survivin expression was preserved in gastric cancer cell lines. Conclusion: The results indicate that increased expression of survivin and HIAP-1 genes may play an important role in gastric cancer.

Diffraction of multi-directional random waves passing semi-infinite breakwater is investigated by using analytic solution derived by Penny and Prices(1952). An irregylarity of period and incident angle of waves and regular periods for regular waves are considered in addition by expanding from the past study which used only monochromatic wave in general. The Bretschneider-Mitsuyasu frequency spectrum and Mitsuyasu directional spectrum are used for incident waves. And diffraction of multi-directional random waves is reappeared by decomposing numerical results of several monochromatic waves which have variable period and incident angle. Analytic solution on the diffraction of regular waves and multi-directional random waves calculated in this study.
