A new homologous series with the general formula in which n is the longitudinal alkyloxy group, n=1-10, was synthesized. The thermotropic and liquid crystalline properties were studied by differential scanning calorimetry and on the hot-stage of a polarizing microscope. All of the new compounds were monotropic and texture observations proved that all investigated homologues with n=1-10 exhibited nematic phases. Also, the compounds showed pronounced alternation effects in the homologous series with constant lateral bridging group, oxydecamethyleneoxy, but increasing longitudinal chains, n. n=1-10으로 종축방향의 알킬옥시기를 갖는 아래 구조의 새로운 동족계열 화합물을 합성하였다. 이들의 열적 및 액정성질을 DSC와 가열판이 부착된 편광현미경을 사용하여 조사하였다. 새로운 화합물들은 모두 단방성이었고, 조사된 동족계열, n=1-10, 화합물들의 구조는 네마틱상을 나타내었다. 또한 화합물들은 일정한 측면 다리기, 옥시데카메틸렌옥시,를 가지며 종축사슬, n을 증가시켰을 때 동족 계열내에서 교대효과를 나타내었다.
RF magnetron sputter의 분위기에 따른 Tio<sub>2</sub> 박막의 특성

RF 마그네트론 스퍼터링으로 가스조성비와 기판의 온도를 변화시키면서 $Tio_2$ 박막을 성장하였다. XRD, SEM, AFM 및 분광 광도계를 이용하여 박막의 구조와 광학적 특성을 고찰하였다. 박막에는 아나타제 결정성만 관찰되었으며 온도가 높아질수록 회절 피크의 강도가 증가하였다. 산소농도가 증가함에 따라 기둥구조의 결정성장률이 감소되었으며 굴절률과 흡수율은 감소하였다. $Tio_2$ 박막은 300~400oC의 기판온도와 10 %의 $O_2$ 분위기에서 성장한 박막의 표면이 매끄럽고 투과특성이 우수한 $300{\sim}400^{\circ}C$ 박막을 얻을 수 있었다. The $Tio_2$ films were prepared on glass, silicon and quartz substrate at different temperature by radio frequency reactive magnetron sputtering under different flow ratios of Ar and O2 gases. The films were characterized by X-ray diffractometer (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), atomic force microscope (AFM) and UV-VIS spectrophotometer. Only the anatase phase was observed in films and their diffaction peaks increased with temprature of substrate. The size of crystallites decreased with higher concentration of oxygen. Refractive index and optical absorption of thin films decreased with higher concentration of oxygen. The thin films which have good transmittance spectra and smooth surface, deposited in the sputtering ambient with 10 % of $O_2$ at the temperature from $400{\circ}C$ to $300{\circ}C$.

Two series of main chain liquid crystalline polymers consisting of aromatic Schiff-base mesogenic units and polymethylene spacers were synthesized and their thermal transitions and liquid crystalline properties were studied. And a series of dimesogenic compounds having two identical, terminal Schiff-base type mesogens and a central polymethylene spacer were prepared and their thermal transitions and liquid crystalline properties were compaerd with those of the corresponding monomesogenic compounds. The mesomorphic properties of the polymers and the compounds were studied by differential scanning calorimetry and on a hot-stage of a polarizing microscope.
Liquid Crystalline Properties of Dimers Having o-, m- and p- Positional Molecular Structures

With the objective to design and synthesis of Schiff's base symmetrical liquid crystal dimmers and to study the effect of molecular structure variation (o-ortho, m-meta, p-para) and change in alkoxy terminal chain length on mesomorphic properties of liquid crystals, We have synthesized Schiff base dimers from dialdehyde derivative containing 2-hydroxy-1,3-dioxypropylene as short spacer with aniline derivatives having different lengths of terminal alkoxy chains (n = 5, 7, 9). The chemical structure of the final products was characterized by proton nuclear magnetic resonance (1H NMR) spectroscopy and fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The mesomorphic properties and optical textures of the resultant dimers were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and polarized optical microscopy (POM). The existence of smectic A phase transition was confirmed by the observation of bâtonnets and fan shaped textures in optical microscopy when compound were heated from crystalline phase. All of the dimers of this series, with the exception of 2S5 -ortho, -meta, -para, were thermotropic liquid crystal. The compound 2S9 -meta was monotropic, while the rest were enantiotropic. It was found that the change in terminal alkoxy chain length has pronounced effect on the mesomorphic properties. The temperature range of smectic A phase window widens with increasing alkoxy chain length.
광산란 방법에 의한 Sodium Dodecly Sulfate 미셀의 크기에 대한 연구

The mean gyration radii, Ṛg of elongated micelles of sodium dodecyl surfate(SDS) were measured using angular dissymmetry of the dynamically scattered light. The measurements were performed at low NaCl concentration(0.05M)and high NaCl concentration(0.30M) at temperatures, 25°C, 30°C and 40°C. The measured Ṛg values dissymmetry, (d(θ)) versus the cosθ of the pure SDS micelle was spherical with the effective radius of 37.5A at 40°C. the SDS micelles in electrolyte solution were found to be thin rod-like between 130A and 390A in length, and flexible bended rod-like between 600A and 680A in length, as the temperature is liwered from 40°C to 25°C. As a result, the non-rigid SDS micelles transform gradually from sphere via prolate ellipsoid to thin rod-like and flexible bended rod-like micelles as the electrolyte are added and the temperature is lowered.
위상적 무결성 제약조건과 능동 규칙을 사용한 제약조건 관리 시스템

A research area in GIS(Geographical Information System) has been so far focused on the data modeling, and on the efficient storing method, and on the indexing method of spatial objects, etc.. We can classify spatial errors as geometric errors, semantic errors and topological errors. The topological errors are of great importance in GIS data consistency. Topological errors, which are a kind of semantic errors, are based on topological relationships. Errors detected in GIS data come from the lack of cognition of topological relationships between spatial objects stored in database. Topological relationships will help finding errors and correcting them in GIS data. In this paper, we will survey several papers about spatial errors, and describe the definition process of the topological integrity constraints. We will also survey existing active DBMSS, and discuss how we can use active rules in constraints maintenance. Then, we will design and implement topological integrity maintenance system.
Bis (p-Substitutedphenyl) terephthalates의 Nematic Group Efficiency Order에 대한 연구

New compounds were synthesized and their thermal and liquid crystal properties were studied by the differential scanning calorimetry(DSC) and on a hot-stage of a polarizing microscope. The terminal substituent groups of the compound were varied : X = -H, -F, -Cl, -Br, -I, -NO2 , -CF3, -OC2H5 , -OC4H9 , -CN and –C6H5. The compounds of X = -C1,-OC2H5 , -OC4H9 . -CN, and -C6H5 were enantiotropically nematic. The compound of X = -Br and –NO2 were monotropically nematic. In contrast, the com pounds of X = -H, ~F, -I and -CF3 were not liquid crystals. The nematic group efficiency order of these compounds was in the order of -C6H5 〉 ~CN > -OC2H5 〉 -Br > -OC4H9 > -NO2 > -Cl.
