The purpose of this study is to examine the semantic properties of Figure-Ground organization and apply these concepts to the analysis of syntactic structures in English. Talmy`s (2000a: 311-344) Figure-Ground distinction explains an asymmetrical prominence in linguistic expressions. He focuses mostly on the visual and psychological aspects, not on the syntactic aspects. Through examining the relations between the cognitive conceptualizations and grammatical realizations, we can divide syntactic components into Figure and Ground: a subject or an object serves as Figure, and a PP modifier or a subject/object complement serves as Ground. In addition, this study provides a unified account of different types of grammatical functions in terms of Figure and Ground.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the semantic roles in terms of Figure-Ground concept of the motion event(Talmy: 2000a) and to explicate that semantic roles are based on the cognitive concept. We often see the problems of defining single roles and also to cases in which a single participant may bear more than one role in events. With the concept of Figure- Ground, this study presents criteria for distinguishing between the roles and integrated accounts for the relationship between semantic roles and Figure-Ground in the conceptual structures: Agent, Theme, Instrument, or Experiencer can be integrated with Figure, while Recipient, Beneficiary, Patient, Location, Source, or Goal can be integrated with Ground. Furthermore, through examining the interplay between semantic roles and cognitive concepts, we can demonstrate the cognition flow of transfer verbs by establishing Ground 1 and Ground 2.

We have isolated two anticoagulant polysaccharides from an acidic extract of Codium fragile. The purification was conducted using three consecutive chromatographies of DEAE-Toyopearl 650C, Sephadex G-100 (G-75), and Sepharose CL-6B by measuring activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT). The two purified anticoagulant polysaccharides, CF-1-VIa-1 and CF-1-VIIa-1, were found to be nearly homogenous on HPLC using a gel permeation column and appeared to have molecular weights of about 80,000 Da and 40,000 Da, respectively. The polysaccharides consisted mainly of arabinose and galactose in a molar ratio of about 2:1, and also comprised 12-13% of sulfates at their constituent sugars. CF-1-VIa-1 and CF-I-VIIa-1 inhibited blood coagulation via both the intrinsic and the extrinsic pathways. The polysaccharides unlike heparin showed an inhibitory activity on thrombin when a pure fibrinogen without antithrombin III was used as a substrate. Structural modifications using sulfation and desulfation affected the anticoagulant activities directly, suggesting that the content of sulfate plays an important role in the blood coagulation cascade. The polysaccharides may inhibit some proteases involved in the blood coagulation cascade, judging from the independence of calcium concentrations in their anticoagulant activity.

Screening of anticoagulant activity was conducted for the hot water extracts of 73 kinds of medicinal herbs, 41 kinds of Korean edible plants. and 5 kinds of sea weeds using plasma recalcification test(Tr). In the first screening several extracts of the plants, Alisma calnaliculation, Corydalis ternate. Panax notoginseng. Allium sativum, Ganoderma lucidum, Codium fragile, showed high activities. When the plants were reextracted with various solvent conditions, acidic water extracts of Codium fragile showed the highest activity in APTT. A crude polysaccharide fraction(CF-1) was prepared by methanol reflux, ethanol precipitation, dialysis and lyophilization of the acid extracts. CF-1 comprised 80.8% total sugar consisting of arabinose, galactose and glucose as the main monomers, 8.7% protein, and 13.3% sulfate. The anticoagulant activity of CF-1 was not changed by pronase digestion, but decreased by periodate oxidation, and this indicated that the anticoagulant activity was attributed to the polysaccharide portion.
식이 섬유질의 첨가가 성인여자의 칼슘과 철분대사에 미치는 영향

This study was carried out to investigate the effect of addition of dietary fiber in the daily diet on the calcium and iron metabolism in healthy young woman. The subjects were equally divided into control group(CG) and fiber group(FG) that consisted on six healthy, woman student of 19 to 24 years of age. The 12-day study was conducted on a 6-day equilibration period and 6-day experiment period(fiber intake:CG 9.4g, FG 21.1g). Except for fiber supplement the daily diet and nutrient intake of the subjects were approximately the recommended dietary allowances during both periods without significant differences. For experiment period there was no siginificant difference between CG(Ca:53%, Fe:29%) and FG(Ca:57%, Fe:44%) of fecal excretion rate of calcium, iron. The excretions of calcium, iron in the urine were not significantly different between groups. Mean calcium and iron level in serum was not significantly different between in FG and CG. This study shows that supplement of 12g fiber in the daily diet did not influence on calcium and iron excretion from fecal and urine and also on the serum calcium and iron level.
고지혈증인 성인 남자의 두류와 유지류 섭취와 혈청지질간의 상관성에 관한 연구

This study was conducted to investigate the relation between consumption of soybean and their products, oils and fats foods and serum lipids level in 27 hyperlipidemic subjects. The average age of the subjects were 47.7 years old. Average height, weight, BMI, and PIBW were 167.2㎝, 70.9㎏, 25.3 and 117.9 respectively. The averae systolic and diastolic blood pressure were 127.1 ㎜Hg and 84.2 ㎜Hg. The levels of serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, LDL-holeserol, AI, and LDL/HDL of subjects were 313.7±98.7㎎/dl, 250.2±29.5㎎/dl, 42.0±15.0㎎/dl, 145.4±35.1㎎/dl, 5.2±1.9 and 3.7±1.5 respectively. Average intake of soybean and their products and oils and fats were 63.2g and 5.6g. Among anthropometric characteristics, height of subjects was negatively correlated with the levels of serum total cholesterol(p<0.05) and weigh, BMI, and PIBW of subjects were positively correlated with the levels of serum triglyceride, total cholesterol, LDL-cholesterol respectively(p<0.05). The relationships soybean and their products food intakes and serum lipid levels revealed that higher legumes intake led to lower serum total cholesterol level. The relationships oils and fats food intakes and serum lipid levels revealed that higher oils and fats intake led to higher serum total cholesterol and LDL-cholesterol level. In conclusion, soybean and their products consumption should be increased and oils and fats consumption decreased should be increased to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases in hyperlipidemic males.
