Biomaterials Strategies for Therapeutic Applications

Great progress in medical diagnostics, tissue engineering, drug delivery and implants can be attributed to the advances in biomaterials. In our lab, we have developed a novel enzymatic method for facile immobilization of bioactive molecules, (antifouling polymers, antibacterial and nitric oxide-generating compounds) onto the surfaces. This approach using Tyrosinase (Tyr)-catalyzed oxidative reaction to convert phenol molecules into o-quinones and form reversible coordination bonds to metallic substrates or polymeric substrates. The method takes advantage of fast reactions under very mild conditions. In addition, peroxidase based in-situ forming hydrogels will be discussed in the presentation. In summary, these rapid enzymatic reactions are effective for surface immobilization of bioactive molecules and in-situ forming hydrogels to improve the in vivo performance of biomaterials.

The direct effect of isoproterenol on renal function, when given intravenously, is usually obscured by its potent hypotensive action. To obviate the latter action, isoproterenol was infused directly into one renal artery of the dog, the other kidney serving as a control for the general action. And following results were obtained. In the first series of experiments, the directic action of isoproterenol was ascertained. $1.0\;{\mu}g/kg/min$. reduced on both kidneys the urine flow, clearances of PAH and creatinine, as well as the amount of sodium excreted, but the effect was weaker on the experimental side than on contralateral side. With $0.1\;{\mu}g/kg/min$., two cases among 6 experiments showed marked diuresis, two cases no apparent effect, and another two marked antidiuresis on the experimental kidney, whereas the contralateral kidney exhibited antidiuresis in all cases. Further reducing the dose unmasked the diuretic action on the ,experimental kidney. In another series, the effects of isoproterenol on the blood flow distribution within the kidney and on sodium concentration gradient within the kidney tissue were observed. $0.05\;{\mu}g/kg/min$ isoproterenol markedly increased the medullary plasma flow and slightly increased total renal plasma flow and glomerular filtration rate, along with concomitant increase in the amount of sodium excreted and osmolar clearance, and decrease in reabsorption of free water. Sodium concentration gradient markedly decreased in the experimental kidney, reaching 2/3 of the value observed in the contralateral kidney at the papilla. It is thus concluded that isoproterenol exerts a diuretic action, when infused directly into a renal artery, and the mechanism of the action rests on its hemodynamic action, substantiated as the increase in glomerular filtration and in the medullary blood flow, resulting in washout of hyperosmolality produced by the coutercurrent multiplier system.

부정적인 평가가 일반적인 우리나라 의료체계의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 지속적으로 제기되어 왔던 대안이 '일차의료의 강화'이다. 그러나, '일차 의료의 강화'라는 주장 안에서도 '일차 의료'에 대한 개념, '일차 의료를 담당하는 일차진료의사'에 대한 이해, 강화를 위한 접근 방법은 주장하는 사람마다 서로 달랐다. 이 글에서는 그 동안 일차 의료 강화에 관한 여러 주장들의 내용과 근거들을 살펴보고 의약분업 이후의 상황에서도 일차 의료 강화가 유효한지를 검토하였다.의약분업 이후 건강보험 진료에서 의원이 차지하는 비중이 높아졌으나 이것이 실제로 일차 의료가 강화되어서 나타난 현상으로 볼 수는 없다. 저자는 다음과 같은 과제를 제시하였다. ⑴ 실현 가능한 주치의 등록제 대안의 모색: PPO 방식에 대한 검토, ⑵ 유능한 일차 진료 의사의 양성을 위해서: 전공의 정원 책정의 기준 변경, ⑶ 조정 능력의 강화, ⑷ 포괄성의 강화: 지역사회 지향 일차의료기관(community oriented clinic). In order to interpret correctly the word "PungRyu(風流)", both the thought of Choi, Chi-Won(崔致遠) who used it first and "PungRyu(風流)" as our own native thought are examined in this study. "PungRyu", our own racial native religion and way of life, is inseperable from "HwaRang(花郞)" and become its thought and way of practice. These are found in the old "JeCheon(祭天)" ceremony. Although "HwaRang" system is disappeared, the spirit of "PungRyu" is revived to overcome the every national crisis. As the root of Korean Physical Education thoughts, "PungRyu", the aim of this study, is good enough, consequently. Besides, it may be suggested that "PungRyu" is worth noticing as Physical Education thought which can show its moral, spiritual aim in modern Physical education thought which can show its moral, spiritual aim in modern Physical education and sport activity. The exertion of our body should "be enraptured" (it means SinMyungNanDa : 神明난다) for the benefit of our community through the "truth"(Cham : 참) and the "zest"(Mub ; 멋)
