        In order to observe localization of pancreatic polypetide containing cell(pp-cell), we studied this cell immunohistochemically in human fetal pancreas from 9 to 40 weeks of gestation age. 1. PP-cells were found as early as in the 9-week fetus. They were observed between epithelia of a primitive pancreatic tubule. 2. In the 13-week fetus, pp-cells were scattered in primitive pancreatic tubules, in primitive at·mar cells and at peripheral portion of pancreatic islets. 3. In the 18-24 week fetus, pp-cells wore found mainly in exocrine portion, but a few at peripheral portion of pancreatic islets. Thereafter, the number of pp-cell was decreased in exocrine portion while pp-cells were increased in pancreatic islets. 4. In the 26-40 week fetus, a few pp-cells were defected in the exocrine portion and in the ductal system. Pancreatic islets contained pp-cells, were only a few. PP-cells were localized at periphery of the islets. 5. Boring fetal period, the head of pancreas was composed of pancreatic islets which pp-cells took a high percentage of the endocrine cell population. In the mantle islet, one to three pp-cells were identified in peripheral zone.

        The influence of tobacco additives on the composition of the combustion products in mainstream smoke is discussed. The effect of additives on the chemical composition of smoke have been further evaluated in order to discover additives that would alter the chemical composition of smoke. Tobacco was uniformly treated at a 1-5$\%$ level with 8 classes of additives. Group M treated with alkali metal salt and group S, F, O give lower tar, nicotine and CO values than the control. Group AN treated with natural antioxidant gives higher tar and CO values than the control. The increases are most probably due to the high transfer rate of the ingredients to smoke. M3 and P1 reduced above the $50\%$ of TSNA from the smoke. M4 and P1 reduced above the $50\%$ of HCN from the smoke. These results suggest that tobacco additives alter pyrolysis or combustion product distribution and provide fundamental data to lead the development of a RRP(reduced risk product).

        This study was conducted to evaluate the personal effects of tobacco smoke and environmental tobacco smoke(ETS) by measuring the concentration of nicotine and cotinine in the urine. While 129 urine samples were being collected, Personal characteristics such as sex, age, number of years since a Person has been a smoker, average consumption number of cigarettes per day, and number of smoker in family were also surveyed. Collected urine samples were used for analysis of nicotine and cotinine by GC/NPD after Passing the extrelut column. In the urine of the smoker, the average contents of nicotine and cotinine were 5.38$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml and 3.14 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml, respectively. The average contents of nicotine and cotinine were 0.18$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml and 0.07$\mu\textrm{g}$/ml in the urine of male non-smoker, respectively. The contents of nicotine and cotinine in the non-smoker's urine were dependent on sex and age. On the other hand, the contents of nicotine and cotinine in smoker's urine were dependent on average consumption amount of cigarettes per day. Also, there was a direct relation between nicotine levels in the smoker's urine and the average consumption number of cigarettes Per day of smoker. The Possible sources of nicotine and cotinine in the non-smoker's urine seemed to be caused by food, beverage and En, Our results indicate that the number of smoker in family had no effect on increasing nicotine and cotinine contents in the urine of non-smoker.

        To evaluate utilization of tobacco dust as a raw material of reconstituted tobacco, tobacco dust was applied to the paper-making reconstituted tobacco process and we examined the chemical and physical properties of the reconstituted tobacco and raw materials. The use of tobacco dust in the manufacture of reconstituted tobacco had no measurable adverse effects on the chemical properties of the reconstituted tobacco when added to the reconstituted tobacco formula at levels of $3\%,\;5\%,\;7\%\;and\;10\%$ instead of foreign bright stem. Filling power and fragibility index of the reconstituted tobacco was slightly decreased with increasing tobacco dust levels, but it was not significant change. However, when the level of $10\%$ tobacco dust was added to the reconstituted tobacco formula, the tensile index based basis weight was rapidly decreased.

        A comparative analysis of characteristics of domestic and foreign reconstituted tobacco based on papermaking was conducted to evaluate the quality of reconstituted tobacco and to utilize as basic data for improvement of domestic reconstituted tobacco. In the formation, which is key factor to quality and physical properties of product, foreign reconstituted tobacco has better uniform formation than those of domestic one. These result was attributed to distribution of large floc size in the domestic one unevenly. In the fiber morphology, domestic reconstituted tobacco has larger average fiber length and width than those of foreign one. They indicated that fiber morphology of domestic one will exert structural properties of paper such as formation and permeability. Tensile strength of domestic one has lower than those of foreign one by basis weight. In the air permeability, domestic one was remarkably reduced because base web was over sized. It also will affect the combustibility of reconstituted tobacco. In summary, we conclude that the physical and structural properties of domestic reconstituted tobacco result in quality deviations compared with foreign reconstituted tobacco.

      • 잎담배중 유리 및 Glycoside형태로 존재하는 휘발성 향기성분

        Free and glycosidically bound volatiles from three green tobacco leaves(NC 82, KF 109 and Br-21) were separated by nonionic resin Amberlite XAD-2 adsorption column chromatography and election by selective solvents. Aglycones from the glycosidically bound fractions were released by enzymatic hydrolysis with almond B-glucosidase. A total of 20 components identified from free and glycosidically bound fractions, the major components were benzaldehyde, benzyl alcohol, 2-phenylethyl alcohol, 3-oxo- -ionol, 3-hydroxy-B-ionone, 3-oxo-7, 8-dihydro-n-ionol and scopoletin. Six Cl.B norisoprenoids identified in this study, which have been described to possess a characteristic tobacco aroma-enhancing effect, were not presented in free forms but rather bound glycosidic forms.

        This paper describes the generation and decay phenomena of gas, vapor and particulate phase components of environmental tobacco smoke in 18 m3 controlled experimental atmosphere chamber. Real time-weighted average concentration ratios of markers were determinated at no ventilation rates and sampling durations of starting to smoking 45 min. Average concentration of major ETS markers was no significant on the mainstream smoke contents of commercial cigarette and decay ratios were dependent on first order kinetic. RSP/nicotine, solanesol and 3-EP were good predictors of ETS concentration in the public indoor field. The concentration ratio of vapor phase and particulate phase components is highly variable to assessment of indoor air quality with ETS. Key words : ETS, chamber study, ETS markers.

        두충껍질의 휘발성 성분

        The volatile components of the barks of Eucammia ulmoides Oliver were extracts simutaneous steam distillation-extraction apparatus, and analyzed by combined GC and GC-MS. Forty nine componets, including 4 acids, 11 alcohols, 9 aldehydes, 4 esters, 3 ketones, 16 hydrocarbons, 1 lactone were confirmed in Eucommiae cortexs. Among total volatiles the most component was caproic acid comprising about 18.1%.

        This study was conducted to determine the sidestream smoke concentration, nicotine, tar, and CO, by the characteristics of tobacco leaves and their combinations. 20 kinds of tobacco leaves and 15 types of their combinations were selected for this study. After collecting the sidestream smoke by fishtail chimney, the concentrations of nicotine, tar, and CO in sidestream smoke were analyzed. Variation in nicotine concentration of sidestream smoke among tobacco leaves and their combinations was as much as 9-times. Heavy leaves and burley leaves were higher in nicotine concentration than light leaves and flue-cured leaves, respectively, the reconstituted tobacco leaf had the minimum concentration of nicotine. Tar concentration of sidestream smoke also was changed by the characteristics of tobacco leaves and their combinations. As the american C4F had the maximum concentration of tar in sidestream smoke, the reconstituted tobacco leaf showed the minimum concentration. Blending 50 % flue-cured B1-0 plus 50% burley B1-T grade showed the highest value in the nicotine concentration. Also, in case of adding B3K and izmir tobacco leaves, the nicotine concentration was decreased. The tar concentration in the sidestream smoke increased as increasing the amount of flue-cured heavy leaf. The CO concentration was not so much Changed by the characteristics of tobacco leaves and their combinations.
