        A comparative analysis of characteristics of domestic and foreign reconstituted tobacco based on papermaking was conducted to evaluate the quality of reconstituted tobacco and to utilize as basic data for improvement of domestic reconstituted tobacco. In the formation, which is key factor to quality and physical properties of product, foreign reconstituted tobacco has better uniform formation than those of domestic one. These result was attributed to distribution of large floc size in the domestic one unevenly. In the fiber morphology, domestic reconstituted tobacco has larger average fiber length and width than those of foreign one. They indicated that fiber morphology of domestic one will exert structural properties of paper such as formation and permeability. Tensile strength of domestic one has lower than those of foreign one by basis weight. In the air permeability, domestic one was remarkably reduced because base web was over sized. It also will affect the combustibility of reconstituted tobacco. In summary, we conclude that the physical and structural properties of domestic reconstituted tobacco result in quality deviations compared with foreign reconstituted tobacco.

        탄성칼슘에 성상이 종이물성에 미치는 영향

        This study was intended to investigate the proper shape and size of calcium carbonate for the improvement of paper properties and its end use performance. We loaded calcium carbonate of various shapes and size in the handsheet and measured their physical and optical properties. Results obtained from the study are summarized as follows : 1. Due to different particle shapes and sizes, precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) contributed greater to bulk improvement than ground calcium carbonate (GCC). Scalenohedral form of PCC produced the bulkiest sheet, GCC made the sheet bulkier as average particle size increases. 2. Tensile strength increased as average particle size was increasing. GCC kept tensile strength more effectively than PCC. The effect of particle size on tensile strength was much more pronounced as filler addition level was increasing. 3. Over the average particle size of 6.99$\mu$m, GCC gave much higher burst strength and internal bond than PCC did. In the filler levels of 20% and 30%, GCC by using bigger size fillers showed 50~100% improvement in some cases than PCC at the same filler content. 4. Tear strength increased as average particle size was increasing. At the filler level of 30%, PCC decreased tear greatly. 5. Over the average particle size of 13.56$\mu$m, GCC kept bending stiffness greater than PCC. Due to its shape, Scalenohedral form of PCC showed higher stiffness than others at the same particle size. 6. Cubic and acicular form of PCC improved light scattering coefficient very effectively. Light scattering coefficient of GCC decreased as average particle size increased. 7. Both of particle shape and size of filler were important factor in developing optical properties and bending stiffness.         The grades of burley tobacco stems and scraps were classified followed by the nicotine and nitrate contents by using the cluster analysis. The chemical components of the burley tobacco stems and scraps gathered from 2002 to 2005 were analyzed with auto analyzer. According to the nicotine contents and the nitrate contents, the burley stems and scraps could be classified three groups, respectively. In case of the burley scraps, the AB3T, AB4TR, B1T and B2T grades belonged to the $1^{st}$ a group. The C1W and C2W grades belonged to the $2^{nd}$ group and the CD3W and CD4TR belonged to the $3^{rd}$. In case of the burley stems, the AB3T and AB4TR grades belonged to the $1^{st}$ group. The B1T, B2T, C1W and C2W grades belonged to the $2^{nd}$ group and the CD3W and CD4TR belonged to the $3^{rd}$ group. This classification of raw materials depending on the similarity in the chemical components might be helpful to control the properties of the Reconstituted Tobacco sheet.

      • 근적외선 분광분석법을 이용한 판상엽 화학성분 평가

        Near InfraRed Spectroscopy(NIRS) is a quick and accurate analytical method to measure multiple components in tobacco manufacturing process. This study was carried out to develop calibration equation of near infrared spectroscopy for the prediction of the amount of chemical components and hot water solubles(HWS) of reconstituted tobacco leaf. Calibration samples of reconstituted tobacco leaf were collected from every lot produced during one year. The calibration equation was formulated as modified partial least square regression method (MPLS) by analyzing laboratory actual values and mathematically pre-treated spectra. The accuracy of the acquired equation was confirmed with the standard error of prediction(SEP) of chemical components in reconstituted tobacco leaf samples, indicated as coefficient of determination($R^2$) and prediction error of sample unacquainted, followed by the verification of model equation of laboratory actual values and these predicted results. As a result of monitoring, the standard error of prediction(SEP) were 0.25 % for total sugar, 0.03 % for nicotine, 0.03 % for chlorine, 0.16 % for nitrate, and 0.38 % for hot water solubles. The coefficient of determination($R^2$) were 0.98 for total sugar, 0.97 for nicotine, 0.96 for chlorine, 0.98 for nitrate and 0.92 for hot water solubles. Therefore, the NIRS calibration equation can be applicable and reliable for determination of chemical components of reconstituted tobacco leaf, and NIRS analytical method could be used as a rapid and accurate quality control method.

        원소스 멀티유스(OSMU) 콘텐츠로서의 셰익스피어 애니메이션

        This paper aims to demonstrate Shakespeare: The Animated Tales as the earliest examples of OSMU global contents, and as standard works of reference for the projects that the Korean government is currently setting up to develop the industry of OSMU global contents. The animated Shakespeare series is a fundamentally educative product of the interaction between creative minds of the present with one of the past, nourishing the imagination of young people. The plays included in it are independent works of art which transmute their raw material into something rich in its own right. In these terms the paper focuses on the combination of technical expertise and educational experience that lie behind the series as global contents, and the discussion consists of two parts. The first part gives an account of the international cooperation involved in the three stages of the project: planning, production, marketing. It stresses that The Animated Tales were firmly in the hands of highly experienced and talented professionals who were not only on the artistic side but also the administrative, academic, educational and marketing sides. Animation technique was well suited to the reduction of the play to thirty minutes, conveying in one picture what it would take many lines of dialogue to communicate. The second exemplifies Hamlet as a perfect case of the harmony between the language imagery narrative of Shakespeare (OS) and the picture image narrative of animation (MU), which is the crucial factor determining the quality of OSMU contents. It places emphasis on the narrative structure in which actions and incidents revolve round Ophelia.
