This study was investigated to make sure the range of the Colla Corii Asini treatment. the nature of disease and the pathology of it in D ongeuyboga. The following conclusion were reached through invetigations on the prescriptions that use the Colla Corii Asini as a ingredient. 1. The Colla Corii Asini was used a internal disease more than a surgical disease in the dongeuybogam. 2. The Colla Corii Asini was used lung and large intestine disease in abundance and especially anhidrosis. cough and dysentery. 3. The Colla Corii Asini was applied much more disease about blood in the dongeuybogam, but some was used almost bleeding disease. one was used blood deficiency. 4. The processed Colla Corii Asini was used more than the Colla Corii Asini in the dongeuybogam, because of convenience of preparation and ease of intestinla drug absorption. 5. Objective : Herb safety is one of the major topics in Japan, because several events affecting herb safety have occurred. Therefore, herb safety has become an important factor for government policy and hospital strategies. Hence we investigated the effect of decoction and processing to compare the contents of heavy metal before/after decoction and processing. Method : The heavy metal contents before/after decoction and processing were measured by inductively-coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometer(ICP-AES) Results : 1. The content of Pb is a decrease of 33.5% before/after the decoction. 2. The content of Pb is a decrease of 22.7% before/after the processing. 3. The content of Cd and Pb in the residue is each 17% and 1.5% before/after the decoction. Conclusion : These results will be used to establish a criterion for heavy metal.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to find the therapeutic meaning of the Magnoliae Cortex in herbal medication. Methods : About the origin, the component, the processing the drug, the properties and tastes of drugs, the meridian tropism, the effects, the treating disease, the contraindication and the method of administration, I have researched 27 literatures to mention the Magnoliae Cortex in time sequence. Results : 1. The source of Magnoliae Cortex is from the dried bark of branch, root of Magnolia officinalis Rehd. et Wils. or M. officinallis Rehd. et Wils. var. biloba Rehd. et Wils.. In Korea and Japan, the bark of M. ovobata Thunberg is used as a substitute. and In Korea, Machilus thunbergii is misused as Magnoliae Cortex. 2. The medicinal material is skined during April, May and June. Bark of branch and root are directly dried in shade and the dried bark is put in boiling water for a while and then piled in the wet shade. The crude one may be used or the prepared one with ginger juice is used. 3. Magnoliae Cortex will be useful to treat a cold, diseases of the digestive system, musculoskeletal diseases. Conclusions : This study showed that the Magnoliae Cortex will be useful to treat a cold, diseases of the digestive system, musculoskeletal diseases.

Objective : The purpose of this study is to analyze the origin plants and the characteristics of the origin-plants of Chok-Chil. Method : To achieve the purpose of this study, bibliographies about Chok-Chil were examined. The examination was focused on the origin. Standing on this analysis the list and characteristics of the origin plants were presented. Results : 1. Chok-Chil(蜀漆) is the twig and leaf of Saxifragaceae Dichroa febrifuga Lour. 2. Sang-San(常山) is the root of Saxifragaceae Dichroa febrifuga Lour. 3. Chok-chil is toxic, and the effects are to make expectoration easy and to prevent further attack of malaria. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to evaluate whether or not a pretreatment with Portulaca oleracea has an antioxidant effect in HCl-ethanol induced gastric mucosal damage. Methods: We elucidated the level of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lipid peroxidation, and two important constituents of antioxidant defense such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione (GSH) in these effects. Results: The oral administration of crude extract from P. oleracea attenuated the gastritic lesion area, submucosal edema and hemorrhage, and mucosal necrosis induced by HCl-ethanol. The MDA levels of control group were higher than those in the rats given the P. oleracea pretreatment. While the GSH levels of control were decreased, the GSH activity on the gastric mucosal layer maintain normal level in rats given the Portulaca oleracea pretreatment before HCl-ethanol induced gastritis significantly increased. However, the SOD activites were not altered by P. oleracea. Conclusions: The administration of Portulaca oleracea have a protective antioxidant effect against the gastric lesion induced by HCl-ethanol and may therefore be a promising drug for gastritis and gastric ulcer.
