        영어 독해과제와 영어 독해전략 선택간의 관련성 조사

        L2 professionals argue that the use of reading strategies is an important factor in achieving reading fluency. Cognitivists in L2 education claim that the inventory of L2 reading strategies is useful for students to understand and utilize diverse reading strategies. However, sociolinguists reject the claim by arguing that because the choice of strategies will be influenced by characteristics of reading tasks, the inventory is not helpful unless it explains reading tasks. With this background, this study (n =10) was intended to explore the relationship between the choice of L2 reading strategies and reading tasks. For data collection, three methods―a survey with a questionnaire, reading tasks, and oral interviews―were employed. The questionnaire assessed the degrees of the participants’ use of reading strategies. The reading tasks were designed to stimulate the participants to use certain strategies dependent on their perceptions of L2 reading goals. Finally, the interviews aimed to clarify what reading strategies each participant utilized during the tasks. According to the data analysis, it seemed likely that most of the participants chose to use certain strategies according to their perceptions of L2 reading goals. At the end of this study, some suggestions for L2 reading instruction were made.

        영어로 진행되는 KFL수업 담화분석 현장연구

        본 연구의 목적은 미국의 한 KFL 교실수업 담화분석 현장연구를 통해 KFL 교사의 교수향상을 꾀하고 L2(제2언어 또는 외국어)로서 교사언어의 특징을 이해하고자 하는데 있다. 수업관찰과 녹화를 한 후 기존의 코딩체계를 이용하여 교실수업 상호작용을 분석하여 독특한 특징을 기술하고 해석하였다. turn-taking(말 순서) 빈도와 형태소와 단어로 본 발화의 mean length(평균 길이)을 분석한 결과에 따르면 연구 참가자들이 동등한 기회를 가지는 것으로 나타났다. KFL교사가 사용한 strategy(전략)로 학생들과 계속해서 negotiation process(협상과정)를 가지고, 개개인의 한국어 능숙도에 따라 개별질문의 복잡성을 차별화하는 것이 발견되었다. 또한 clue(단서제공), confirmation(확인), recast(고쳐 말하기)와 think-aloud(소리내어 생각하기)같은 다양한 목적을 위한 repetition(반복) 전략 등이 사용되었다. 연구 결과를 바탕으로 EFL(English as a foreign language)뿐만 아니라 KFL를 위한 교육적 시사점을 제시한다.         영어 청해 능력과 독해 능력간의 언어 전이 가능성 조사

        Korean EFL students seem to be more successful in developing L2 reading competence than in promoting L2 listening competence even though they need to enhance both competences simultaneously for academic and practical purposes. To satisfy this need, it is recommended that L2 teachers employ integrative language teaching (ILT) which connects L2 reading activities with L2 listening activities. ILT is based on the theoretical perspective that one type of linguistic competence can be transferable to another type of competence. However, this perspective generates a severe controversy among L2 professionals, which in turn causes L2 educators to be reluctant to adopt ILT. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between reading and listening competence, thus exploring the transferability between the two. For data collection, the participants were assigned a TOEIC test that assessed their reading and listening competence. The data analysis reported the participants' L2 reading competence was higher than there listening competence, and that there was a moderate and significant relationship between the two, thus implying the transferability between them. At the end of this paper, implications for L2 teaching in Korea are discussed.

        한국 대학생의 영어 의사소통 긴장감 연구

          Communication anxiety (CA) in L2 has been identified as one of the important predictors of determining success in the attainment of L2 communication competence. L2 professionals have attempted to explicate its nature in L2, but seemingly failed to achieve the goal. This is probably because they have tended to rely on studies dependent on the use of surveys, which are usually constructed on the basis of their own perspectives rather than L2 students" on CA. To solve this problem, some L2 professionals have utilized diverse research methods that can gather opinions directly from L2 students who are the main constituent in L2 learning; regretfully, they have barely listened to L2 students" voices about controlling CA in L2. This descriptive study explored the nature of CA and the way of controlling it by analyzing data from 57 Korean EFL undergraduates who voluntarily responded to the oral interview questions. The findings of this study pointed out that CA in L2 negatively influenced L2 performance. However, it seemed to have the potential to promote L2 learning. Provided are some important implications that can assist L2 teachers to help their students control CA by maximizing the positive nature of CA.

        대학영어교육 설계를 위한 요구분석

        This study was intended to examine the current English program practiced at a university. The ultimate purpose of this action research was to improve the current English program on the basis of the needs analysis among the participants (n = 105). The participants were asked to answer a survey questionnaire with 24 items questioning their motivations to learn English, interests in, degrees of satisfaction with the current English program, and variables affecting their interests and satisfactions. According to the data analysis using the SPSS program, the participants responded that they would need to develop English proficiency for academic and occupational purposes in the future. Many of the participants showed their interests in developing English speaking proficiency. Considering the variables, “teaching methods,” “practicality of English competence in the future,” and “usefulness for academic purposes” are the three main variables that would determine the participants’ interests and satisfactions. It is worth noticing that the participants would prefer the teaching method stimulating the interaction between teachers and students to the traditional teacher-centered teaching method. Some interesting findings were also discussed in this study.

      • 슬관절의 관절경적 시술 후 발생한 폐 색전증 - 2례 보고 -

        심부 정맥 혈전증(deep vein thrombosis)과 폐색전증(pulmonary embolism)은 정형외과적 수술 후 발생할 수 있는 심각하고 치명적인 합병증이다. 대부분의 시술은 인공관절 치환술등 절개가 큰 시술 후에 발생한다. 반면 슬관절의 관절경적 시술 같은 최소 침습적 수술의 경우, 그 위험도 및 예방적 조치에 대해 명확하게 밝혀지지 않고 있다. 슬관절의 관절경적 시술 후 발생한 폐색전증의 국외보고는 다소 있으나 국내보고는 아직 없어 2례에 대하여 보고하고자 한다. Deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism are serious fatal complication after orthopedic surgery. Most of them occur after large operation such as total knee/hip arthroplasty. Some reports about deep vein thrombosis after simple arthroscopic procedure were on the Western literatures, but there was no report on the Korean literature. So we report two cases of pulmonary embolism after knee arthroscopic procedures.

        분쇄성 대퇴골 전자하 골절에서의 최소 침습적 금속판 고정술

        목적: 본 연구는 최소 침습적 금속판 고정술을 대퇴골의 분쇄성 전자하 골절에 시행하고 그 결과를 알아보고자 하였다. 대상 및 방법: 분쇄성 전자하부 골절을 가진 환자 12명에서 최소 침습적 금속판 고정술을 시행하였으며, 평균나이는 38.2세였다. 각각 6명에서 교통사고 또는 낙상이 골절의 원인이었으며, 평균 추시는 4.3년 (범위, 29∼78개월)이었다. 골절의 유합 기간, 부정 유합, 합병증 등에 대하여 방사선적, 임상적으로 평가를 하였다. Seinsheimer 분류상 III형이 1명, IV형이 7명, V형이 4예였으며, AO-OTA 분류상 C형이 10명으로 가장 많았다. 결과: 총 12예 중 7예에서 평균 25.5주에 골유합을 얻었다. 3예에서 금속물의 파손을 동반한 불유합이 있었으며, 이는 금속물의 교체와 골이식으로 치료를 요하였으며, 또 다른 2예에서는 분쇄 골절부의 일부에서 예상되는 불유합에 대하여 조기에 골이식을 시행하였다. 가장 많은 합병증으로는 금속물의 파손으로, 금속판의 부전이 2예, 나사못의 파손이 3예에서 있었다. 부정유합으로는 1예에서 1.5 cm의 하지 단축이 있었으며, 1예에서 15도의 외회전 변형이 있었으며, 감염을 보인 환자는 없었다. 결론: 역동적 과나사를 이용한 최소 침습적 금속판 고정술은 골절편의 생물성을 보존하여 분쇄성 대퇴골 전자하 골절에서도 적용 될 수 있으나, 타부위에 비하여 금속물의 부전 및 불유합률이 높았으며, 기계적 부전을 방지하기 위해서는 분쇄부위의 가골의 형성이 될 때까지 조심스럽고도 보호적인 체중부하가 필요할 것으로 생각된다. Purpose: To evaluate the outcomes of patients with comminuted subtrochanteric femoral fractures using minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis (MIPO) technique. Materials and Methods: Twelve patients with a mean age of 38.2 years, who sustained comminuted subtrochanteric femoral fractures, were treated using MIPO technique. All patients suffered these fractures either from traffic accidents (6) or falls from height (6). Average follow-up was 4.3 years (range, 29∼78 months). Patients were assessed radiographically and clinically with regards to time to union, malunion, and complications. According to the Seinsheimer`s classification, there were 1 type III, 7 type IV, and 4 type V. Type C fractures were ten according to AO-OTA classification. Results: Union was achieved in 7 of 12 cases, in an average of 23.4 weeks (range, 12∼42 weeks). Three definite non-unions with implant failures, needed the procedure of implant change and bone graft. In other two patients, early bone graft was performed for anticipated nonunion of comminuted area. The most common complication was metal failures (2 plate failures and 3 screw breakages). Limb length shortening of 1.5 cm occurred in one patient, and external rotation malunion of 15 degrees was noted in one patient. No patients developed infection. Conclusion: Preserving biology of the fracture fragments, the use of MIPO technique using DCS has proven to be less successful in comminuted subtrochanteric fractures, comparing to fractures in other areas. To avoid mechanical failure, the careful and protective weight bearing is needed until the callus-bridging is seen in the commniuted area.
