PLA(Polylactic acid) has attracted wide attention as the novel alternative for the traditional metal implants for its biodegradable ability. In this study, PLA/polyglycolic acid fiber reinforced composite (FRC) was investigated because PLA didn’t have adequate mechanical property as implant material. HA (Hydroxyapatite) was also added to the FRC as a substitute for bone repairing material owing to its good osteoconductivity and osteoinductivity. To reduce the HA agglomeration in the composite and enhance the filler effect, it was grafted with PLA. Mechanical properties such as tensile strength and flexural strength critical in human bone characteristics were measured. Morphology of the composite fracture was also examined to show the well-dispersed grafted HA in composite. Also grafted HA was characterized by FT-IR and TGA for chemical bonding between HA and PLA. Bioactivity was characterized by the growth of apatite on the surface of the composite in simulated body fluid solution.
