The prpose of the study is concerned with the testing of practical skills in middle school science. The framework for science assessment used in this study is based on APU (Assessment of Performance Unit) developed by DES in the United Kingdom. The categories of the survey are made up "Scale reading", "Measuring instrument" and "Use of unit". The data was collected from 256 students-13 years old in middle school. The results of this study are the same as follows: In the scale reading and the measuring instrument, eighty-three percent of students read the measuring cylinder within 1 ㎤. Eighty-one per cent of students read the lever arm balance correctly. Ninety-two per cent of students read the thermometer to within 1℃ of the preset value. Twenty-six of students read an ammeter to within the range of tolerance of that instrument. Sixty-seven per cent of students read the forcemeter correctly. In the use of units, eighty-one to ninety-two per cent of students used appropriate units for volume, mass and temperature. Twelve to eighteen per cent of students used appropriate units for force and current.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the status of the experimental and practical education in high school earth. The present status and reasonable management of the experimental and practical education in high school earth science have been grasped from the questionaires. To do this, eighty eight earth science teachers in Korea are administered questionaires. The frequency of the experimental and practical items in the seven kind of earth science text books were investigated. The problems and the reasonable management for experimental and practical education were proposed in this paper.

The current teaching method of geological education has been emphasized on knowledge, especially, in high school Earth Science education. This fact does’nt satisfy the objective of learning in lack of the geological field works. Authors introduce five stops of the geological field work and the respective explanation about the observable facts. This area provides not only many various informations for field work but also is very convenient to go there. The geological contents obtainable in the field work are summarized as follows; 1) This course is divided into five stop areas. 2) All the areas in this course are mainly consisted of hornfels which was backed by intrusion of granitic body. 3) The contents of geological field work are the same as below; Texture of rocks, particle size, rock color, shape and sorting of grains, cross bedding, ripple mark, sun creak, worm boring, intrusion of dyke, xenolith, joint, contact metamorphic boundary, 3-dimensional geologic structure and so forth.
과학영재교육센터 교육체제의 효율적인 운영방안에 관한 연구

The purpose of this study was to suggest an advanced system for educating scientifically gifted children in the Center for Science Talented Education at Kyungpook National University. Several suggestions based on analysis of current identifying-process and instructional materials for scientifically gifted children were provided for advancing the educational system of the center. First, this study suggested a three-step procedure to identify procedure emphasized students reasoning skills as one of important characteristics of the gifted child. Second, this study provided an instructional model for developing hypothesis testing skills in scientifically gifted children. The model was originally based on Lawson's scientific reasoning processes and learning cycle mode. Third, this study also suggested an effective administration system of the Center for Science Talented Education. Further, this study suggested effective ways on research works for advancing the center, educating instructors, the cyber center for remote education, and international co-works for developing the gifted children's potential abilities.

This study was concerned to introduce some courses of geologic field work for students of middle and high school. The study area was divided into two field work courses; Apsan valley and Angirangi valley. This area was provided many various informations for geologic field work. It was introduced seven stops of the geologic field work and explanation about the observable facts. The obtainable geologic contents in the field work are summarized as follows; (1) All the areas in this course are mainly consisted of hornfels which was metamorphosed by intrusion of andesite and granitoid. (2) The contents of geologic field work are the same as follows; Texture of rocks, Particle size, Rock color, Shape and graded bedding, Lamellae structure, Bedding plane, Intrusion of dyke, Joint, Warping, Contact boundary, Contact metamorphism, Mineral composition, Identy of talus and so forth.

The purpose of this study is to analyse the patterns of misconception about the concepts of earth science for high school students. The test questionaire used in this study are made from the items relating to earth science among pretest items for college competency. In this study 48 items were selected and administered to 150 high school students. The results in this study are as follows : (1) The misconceptions on earth science concepts have the various patterns, (2) The sources of student`s misconceptions were resulted from some sensual experiences, the mataphor related a certain word and concept, erroneous observations or logical misuses, formulating an generalization with narrow experiences, the poor development of cognitive structures, the influ-ences of environments and the error of information processing, (3) Based on the misconceptions, a teaching-learning model were suggested at the final course of this study, (4) The result ob-tained from the achievement test analysis showed that scores were significantly low.
