        단순남성임질에서 임질후 요도염에 대한 역학적 치료

        An important concern in treatment for gonorrhea is the high frequency of coexisting chlarnydial and gonococcal infections. But there is difficulty in the diagnosing chlamydial infection. And so, CDC recommends epidemiological treatment, of both gonorrhea and non-gonococcal urethritis in the gonorrheal treatment in order to prevent post-gonococcal urethritis(PGU), A total of 140 male patients with uncomplicated gonococcal urethritis at the VD clinic, Choong-ku Publir. Health Center, in Seoul during December, 1987 February, 1988 were subjected to this study. The patients treated with kanamycin(KM), 2g and aqueous penicillin G(ACPG) 8 million units imaccompanied by probenecid(BEN) 1g by mouth. This combination regimen showed good effect in the treatment of gonococcal urethritis (failure rate 4.2% ). After gonorrheal treatment, the patients were divided randomly into group A and group B. In the group A, adminstrated with doxycycline monohydrate, 100mg, by mouth two times daily for 7 days, 44 and 29 patients were followed at 7th and 14th day after gonorrheal treatment. In the group B, administrated with placebo, 1 tablet, by mouth two times daily for 7 days, 49 and 39 patients were followed at 7th and 14th day after gonorrheal treatment. The PGU incidences were 27.3%(12/44), 20.7%(6,'29) in the group A and 55. 1%(27,'49), 53.8(21/39) in the group B at 7th and 14th day after gonorrheal treatment. Conclusively, eoncornitant administration of doxycycline monohydrate, 100mg, by mouth two times daily for 7 days with gonorrheal treatment lowered PGU significantly.         Effects of Supplementary Lighting Intensity and Duration on Hydroponically Grown Crassulaceae Species

        This study was conducted to determine the effects of supplementary lighting intensity and duration on selected Cassulaceae species grown in a hydroponic system. Five subfamilies in Crassulaceae with corresponding species were chosen as experimental units namely Sedeveria ‘Letizia ’, Sedum ‘Sun Red’, Crassula rupestris, Echeveria ‘Momotaro’, and Graptoveria opalina. Light duration (3 and 6 hours) and intensity (4,000 lux or 60 μmol • m−2 • s−1 and 8,000 lux or 120 μmol • m−2 • s−1), and their combinations served as factors which were replicated twice. Results revealed that the use of supplementary lighting using LED fixtures had influenced selected species under Crassulaceae. The use of three hours supplementary lighting under low light intensity had statistically similar results with those of the control S. letizia, C. rupestris and G. opalina in particular parameters. Meanwhile, succulents under six-hour with high intensity condition grew well, compared to species S. letizia, C. rupestris and E. ‘Momotaro,’ demonstrating that the data was significantly different. Interestingly, there were no statistical significant differences between species C. rupestris and the control regardless of change of variables (duration and intensity) in all parameters.

      • Neisseria Gonorrhoeae and Gonococcal Urethritis in Korea

        임질의 전세계적인 만연과 더불어 임균의 항생제에 대한 감수성저하, 페니실린네이즈 생성임균(Penicillinase Producing Neisseria gonorrhoeae, PPNG)의 출현 및 급증, spectinomycin 내성임균의 출현 등으로 임질에 대한 연구가 계속 요구되고 있다. 그러나 선진국의 경험과 지식은 크나큰 PPNG 발생빈도의 차이, 임균의 항생제에 대한 감수성의 차이등으로 우리나라의 실정에는 적용되지 않아 우리나라에서의 경험이 요구된다. 1979년 5월부터 1987년 6월까지 서울특별시 중구보건소 성병진료실을 내방한 6,514의 남성단순임질환자를 대상으로 하였다. 임균배양검사는 Thayer-Martin선택배지를 이용하였다. Beta-lactomase검출은 chromogenic cephalosporin법으로 하였고 항생제에 대한 감수성검사는 평판회석법으로 하였다. PPNG의 발생빈도는 1981년 1월에 PPNG 1균주가 불리된 후 그 빈도가 급격히 증가하여 11월에는 35균주(42.9%)가 분리되었다. 1982년에는 30.9%, 1983년에는 27.9%, 1984년에는 27.1%를 보였고 1985년과 1986년에는 각각 43.2%, 44.6%를 보였다. 1982년 분리된 임균 82균주에 대한 균학적 소견을 보면 우리나라에서 유행하는 임균은 PPNG와 non-PPNG 모두 WII혈청군이였고 zero-auxotype균주가 가장 많았으며 PPNG는 비교적 plasmid가 잘 전이되는 아시아형임을 알 수 있었다. 1985년 실시한 항생제에 대한 감수성검사는 non-PPNG보다 PPNG에서 최저발육 억제농도(minimal inhibitory concentraton, MIC)가 높았다. Penicillin에 대한 non-PPNG의 MIC90은 4mg/ml였고, non-PPNG의 6%에서 MIC가 8mg/ml이상을 보여 penclln에 대한 chomosomal resiistance를 보인 것으로 생각되었다. PPNG의 빈도가 50%에 달하는 현시점(1987년)에서 PPNG에 유효한 치료법을 임질치료와 1차 선택법으로 하여야 한다. 현재 추천할 수 있는 임질치료법으로는 1) spectinomycin근주요법, 2) aminoglycosides와 penicillin의 병용요법, 3) 제3세대 cephem계 항생제 투여법, 4) beta-lactamase antagonist가 포함된 penicillin요법, 5) quinolone경구요법이 있다.

        Growth of Crassulaceae Succulents as Influenced by Leaf Cutting Type and Planting Position

        Growth and development of succulents were studied in response to two leaf cutting types, the tip and base, using four Echeveria species (E. ‘A Grimm One’, E. ‘Momorato’, E. pulvinata ‘Frosty’, and E. pulidonis) and the planting position, either upright and faced-downward, using Graptoveria optalina. The shoot diameter (mm), height (mm), and number of leaves were significantly affected by the leaf cutting type. Results revealed that the shoot diameter of buds from base leaves were significantly larger by 4 - 9 times than those of buds from tip leaves. Shoot height of buds from tip leaves either not developed or reached a maximum of 2.29 mm while buds from base leaves had an average height of 11.61 mm from E. ‘Mamorato’. Using base leaves allowed to obtain roots and leaves for all selected succulent species after 60 days from planting. Regarding planting position, upright planted and downward-facing plants showed significant differences: buds from upright planting showed taller shoots, greater number of leaves which in turn gave higher visual quality rating and superior color reading using Hunter’s Cielab compared with buds in downward-facing planting position. Planting succulents in an upright position led to well-formed shoots and roots which had a high-quality rating and color evaluation compared with faced-downward planting producing etiolated and abnormal grown shoots. Based on these findings, we suggest that the use of base leaf cuttings and an upright planting position provides a rapid vegetative propagation method for selected succulent varieties.

        인산염 이온 형태에 의한 pH 변량 모형

        본 시험은 배양액 내 pH 변화에 따른 이온과 EC의 모형을 구명하고자 수행하였다. 배양액 내 HPO₄<SUP>-2</SUP>와 H₂PO₄<SUP>-</SUP>의 변량에 따른 pH가 변하는데, pH 4.0-5.0은 EC의 변량이 상승하고, pH 5.0-7.0은 EC의 변량이 완만하고, pH 7.0-8.0은 다시 상승하였다. 배양액 내 다량원소의 변량을 보면, pH가 상승할수록 K, Ca, N, P의 이온 농도도 증가하는데, 특히 K과 P의 변량이 크게 나타났다. 반면 Mg와 S의 변량은 일정하게 유지되었다. 배양액의 IBM(ion balance model)에 따른 분석에서, EC의 변량은 크게 변하지 않고, 이온의 균형점이 a분면에서 d분면으로 이동하면 pH가 상승하면서 음이온보다 양이온이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 또한 pH 변량이 높을수록 EC 중앙선으로부터 멀어져 배양액의 이온 불균형이 증가되었다. HPO₄<SUP>-2</SUP>와 H₂PO₄<SUP>-</SUP>의 변량에 대한 K와 Ca의 당량비 보정은 pH가 증가할수록 K는 감소하지만 Ca는 증가하였고, EC 변량의 영향보다 큰 것으로 나타났다. K와 Ca의 당량비 보정에 따른 pH 변량은 0.97의 이차 다항식 상관모형을 나타냈다. 본 연구를 통해 인산염의 구배에 따른 pH, 이온, EC의 변량에 대하여 pH 변량 모형이 구명되었다. This experiment was performed to develop a model for nutrition ion concentration and EC in regard to change in pH from 4.0 to 8.0 in nutrient solution. The pH changes according to the variation of HPO₄<SUP>-2</SUP> and H₂PO₄<SUP>-</SUP> in the nutrient solution while variation of EC increased from pH 4.0 to 5.0, stabilized from pH 5.0 to 7.0 and increased again from pH 7.0 to 8.0. For the variance of major elements in the nutrient solution, K, Ca, N and P increased while pH was higher, especially the variables for K and P were increased largely. On the other hand, variables of Mg and S were stable. Based on analysis of the ion balance model of nutrient solution, the cation increased than anion over rising the variation of pH while balance point of ion moved from a-side to d-side. In addition, the imbalance increased while it moved away from the EC centerline as variance of pH increased. It was larger than effect of EC variance to correction values of equivalence ratios of K and Ca about variation of HPO₄<SUP>-2</SUP> and H₂PO₄<SUP>-</SUP> while as variance of pH increased, K decreased but Ca increased. These showed the result that variance of pH about correction values of equivalence ratios of K and Ca gave a second-degree polynomial model rating of 0.97. Through this research, it was identified the pH variable model about variance among pH, ion and EC according to gradient of phosphate.

        Effects of Auxin and Cytokinin Application on Leaf Cutting Propagation in Echeveria Species

        A study was conducted to evaluate the effects of auxin, cytokinin, and their combined application to hasten their propagation using leaf cuttings. Different hormone levels were evaluated on two Echeveria species (E. subsessilis and E. runyonii). Three levels of auxin as represented by the use of indole-3-butyric acid (IBA) (0, 100, and 500 ppm), three cytokinin levels as represented by Kinetin (Ki) (0, 100, and 200 ppm) and their combination were applied and observed for 8 weeks. The use of 100 ppm IBA resulted in the highest shoot height, diameter, and rooting and shooting rate. Using 500 ppm IBA led the roots to develop the earliest but both species also had the highest mortality. The application of 100 ppm Ki significantly affected the majority of leaf cuttings of E. runyonnii which exhibited the highest and thickest shoots, and the number of leaves. The application of 100 ppm IBA and 100 ppm Ki is recommended to obtain increased shoot growth and development for leaf cuttings. In the case of single hormone use, the application of 100 ppm IBA may be preferable. The combination of auxin and cytokinin significantly stimulated the hastening of production of succulents using leaf cuttings.

        Hexane-Soluble Fraction of the Common Fig, Ficus carica, Inhibits Osteoclast Differentiation in Murine Bone Marrow-Derived Macrophages and RAW 264.7 Cells

        Osteoclasts, derived from multipotent myeloid progenitor cells, play homeostatic roles in skeletal modeling and remodeling, but may also destroy bone in pathological conditions such as osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis. Osteoclast development depends critically on a differentiation factor, the receptor activator of NF-${\kappa}B$ ligand (RANKL). In this study, we found that the hexane soluble fraction of the common fig Ficus carica (HF6-FC) is a potent inhibitor of osteoclastogenesis in RANKL-stimulated RAW264.7 cells and in bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMMs). HF6-FC exerts its inhibitory effects by suppression of p38 and NF-${\kappa}B$ but activation of ERK. In addition, HF6-FC significantly decreased the expression of NFATc1 and c-Fos, the master regulator of osteoclast differentiation. The data indicate that components of HF6-FC may have therapeutic effects on bone-destructive processes such as osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and periodontal bone resorption.

        The prevalence of PPNG among pretreatment isolates at a STD clinic in Seoul has been studied and reported annually since 1981. In 1988, 461 strains of N. gonorrhoeae were isolated, among which 258 (56.0%) were PPNGs. The prevalence of PPNG in Seoul is still increasing.
