The purpose of this study is to examine how STAD(Student Team Achievement Division) model, one of cooperative learning methods, affects the academic achievement of students in mathematics and their mathematical attitude and to provide both teachers and learners with useful information. For this study we selected 56 students from an academic high school in Jangheung-eup, Jeolla province. The high school juniors were enrolled in two different classes between which there was no significant difference in academic achievement and mathematical attitude, and each class had 28 students. One of them was selected as an experimental group to which the STAD model was applied, and the other was selected as a control group that received education according to a typical expository instructional model. After the experimental teaching was completed, whether there was any significant intergroup gap in academic achievement and mathematical attitude was checked, and then the experimental group was investigated to find out about the strength and weakness of the STAD model.

An image retrieval system based on image content is a key issue for building and managing large multimedia detabase, such as trademarks, copyrights, art galleries, museums, picture archiving and communication system. This paper proposes a feature-based image database system where a compound feature vector representing both the color and shape of an image is used. Color information for the feature vector is obtained using the algebraic moment of each pixel of an image based on the property of regional color distribution. Shape information for the feature vector is obtained using the Improved Moment Invariant(IMI) which reduces the quantity of computation and increases retrieval efficiency. In an experiment, we have compared our methods with previous methods using a database consisting of 150 automobile images, and the results of the experiment have shown that our method has a better performance on retrieval effectiveness.

In order to investigate the effects of Sagunjatang on lympocytes induced by concanavalin A (Con-A), cell viability, cell proliperation, and production of interleukin 2 (IL-2) of the lypocytes from mice were studied. The lympocytes from spleens of BALB/C strain mice were cultured in a culture medium and treated with Sagunjatang. The cell viability was measured using trypan dye exclusion method at 0, 24, 48, and 72 hours after the treatment. For the effects of Sagunjatang on the cell proliferation, the cells were treated with Sagunjatang or concanavalin A (Con-A) and cultured for 48 hours. Then, in the presence of 3H-thymidine, the cells were cultured of an additional 18 hours and were used for determenation of the radioactivity. IL-2 production was illusidated by ELISA at 48 hours after the cells were treated with Sagunjatang or concanvalin A (Con A). Sagunjatang did not affect on the cell viability and it alone had no effects on lympocyte proliferation or IL-2 production whereas concanavalin A demonstrated significant effects. However, in the presence of concanavalin A, Sagunjatang further enhanced lympocyte proliferation and IL-2 production of lympocytes, which were induced by concanavalin A alone. This result indicates that Sagunjatang fortifies the function of concanavalin A on lympocyte proliferation.

This paper describes a web-based information system for plant disease forecast that was developed for crop growers in Gyeonggi-do, Korea. The system generates hourly or daily warnings at the spatial resolution of $240\;m{\times}240\;m$ based on weather data. The system consists of four components including weather data acquisition system, job process system, data storage system, and web service system. The spatial resolution of disease forecast is high enough to estimate daily or hourly infection risks of individual farms, so that farmers can use the forecast information practically in determining if and when fungicides are to be sprayed to control diseases. Currently, forecasting models for blast, sheath blight, and grain rot of rice, and scab and rust of pear are available for the system. As for the spatial interpolation of weather data, the interpolated temperature and relative humidity showed high accuracy as compared with the observed data at the same locations. However, the spatial interpolation of rainfall and leaf wetness events needs to be improved. For rice blast forecasting, 44.5% of infection warnings based on the observed weather data were correctly estimated when the disease forecast was made based on the interpolated weather data. The low accuracy in disease forecast based on the interpolated weather data was mainly due to the failure in estimating leaf wetness events.

To ensure the safety of research reactors, the water level must be maintained above the required height. When a pipe ruptures, the siphon phenomenon causes continuous loss of coolant until the hydraulic head is removed. To protect the reactor core from this kind of accident, a siphon breaker has been suggested as a passive safety device. This study mainly focused on two variables: the size of the pipe rupture and the timing of air entrainment. In this study, the size of the pipe rupture was increased to the guillotine break case. There was a region in which a larger pipe rupture did not need a larger siphon breaker, and the water flow rate was related to the size of the pipe rupture and affected the residual water quantity. The timing of air entrainment was predicted to influence residual water level. However, the residual water level was not affected by the timing of air entrainment. The experimental cases, which showed the characteristic of partical sweep-out mode in the separation of siphon breaking phenomenon [2], showed almost same trend of physical properties.

Organic light-emitting diode (OLED) microdisplays have attracted much attention as displays for small form factor augmented reality (AR) devices. To realize glass-like thin and wide field of view (FoV) AR devices, we designed a display module with a high aspect ratio microdisplay and a thin optical component. For the high aspect ratio microdisplay, we developed the color OLED microdisplay with a 32:9 aspect ratio and a 0.8-inch diagonal ∼2,490-ppi CMOS backplane. To express color and reduce optical crosstalk, wefabricated the color filter (C/F) patterning directly on the white OLED. We also developed a pin mirror lens with 11 pin mirrors to improve the optical efficiency and quality with a thin lens. By combining the microdisplay with LetinAR’s pin mirror lens, we successfully demonstrated an AR device with a wide horizontal FoV of 46° but with a small form factor 4mmlens.
