Study of the Optimal Film Structure by Using Conventional Elipsometry
Liang-Yao Chen,Ming-Yu Sheng,Yun-Hua Wu,Yuan Zhao,Yue-Rui Chen,Yu-Xiang Zheng 한국물리학회 2008 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.53 No.2
The optimal film structure affected by the space effect has been studied for SiO2 film samples deposited onto Si wafers by using the e-beam evaporation method. The ellipsometric data were measured at different incidence angles and in the 300-800-nm wavelength range. In the range where the phase delay δ is close to π, the film thickness deduced from the conventional ellipsometry model varied with the phase delay. The optimal SiO2 film-thickness was achieved with a modified ellipsometric model, including the space effect. The results given in this work can generally be applied to other optical measurement methods used to study film structures.
A LSTM-based method for intelligent prediction on mechanical response of precast nodular piles
Sheng-Liang Lu,Xiao-Xiao Chen,Chang-Sheng Zhan 국제구조공학회 2022 Smart Structures and Systems, An International Jou Vol.30 No.2
The determination for bearing capacity of precast nodular piles is conventionally time-consuming and high-cost by using numerous experiments and empirical methods. This study proposes an intelligent method to evaluate the bearing capacity and shaft resistance of the nodular piles with high efficiency based on long short-term memory (LSTM) approach. A series of field tests are first designed to measure the axial force, shaft resistance and displacement of the combined nodular piles under different loadings, in comparison with the single pre-stressed high-strength concrete piles. The test results confirm that the combined nodular piles could provide larger ultimate bearing capacity (more than 100%) than the single pre-stressed highstrength concrete piles. Both the LSTM-based method and empirical methods are used to calculate the shift resistance of the combined nodular piles. The results show that the LSTM-based method has a high-precision estimation on shaft resistance, not only for the ultimate load but also for the working load.

Many chemotherapeutic agents have been successfully used to treat hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, the development of chemoresistance in liver cancer cells usually results in a relapse and worsening of prognosis. It has been demonstrated that DNA methylation and histone modification play crucial roles in chemotherapy resistance. Currently, extensive research has shown that there is another potential mechanism of gene expression control, which is mediated through the function of short noncoding RNAs, especially for microRNAs (miRNAs), but little is known about their roles in cancer cell drug resistance. In present study, by taking advantage of miRNA effects on the resistance of human hepatocellular carcinoma cells line to cisplatin, it has been demonstrated that miR-340 were significantly downregulated whereas Nrf2 was upregulated in HepG2/CDDP (cisplatin) cells, compared with parental HepG2 cells. Bioinformatics analysis and luciferase assays of Nrf2-3'-untranslated region-based reporter constructor indicated that Nrf2 was the direct target gene of miR-340, miR-340 mimics suppressing Nrf2-dependent antioxidant pathway and enhancing the sensitivity of HepG2/CDDP cells to cisplatin. Interestingly, transfection with miR-340 mimics combined with miR-340 inhibitors reactivated the Nrf2 related pathway and restored the resistance of HepG2/CDDP cells to CDDP. Collectively, the results first suggested that lower expression of miR-340 is involved in the development of CDDP resistance in hepatocellular carcinoma cell line, at least partly due to regulating Nrf2-dependent antioxidant pathway.

There is growing evidence that the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is associated with increased risks of psychiatric sequelae. Depression, anxiety, cognitive impairments, sleep disturbance, and fatigue during and after the acute phase of COVID-19 are prevalent, long-lasting, and exerting negative consequences on well-being and imposing a huge burden on healthcare systems and society. This current review presented timely updates of clinical research findings, particularly focusing on the pathogenetic mechanisms underlying the neuropsychiatric sequelae, and identified potential key targets for developing effective treatment strategies for long COVID. In addition, we introduced the Formosa Long COVID Multicenter Study (FOCuS), which aims to apply the inflammation theory to the pathogenesis and the psychosocial and nutrition treatments of post-COVID depression and anxiety.
Computation Controllable Mode Decision and Motion Estimation for Scalable Video Coding
Liang-Wei Zheng,Gwo-Long Li,Mei-Juan Chen,Chia-Hung Yeh,Kuang-Han Tai,Jian-Sheng Wu 한국전자통신연구원 2013 ETRI Journal Vol.35 No.3
This paper proposes an efficient computation-aware mode decision and search point (SP) allocation algorithm for spatial and quality scalabilities in Scalable Video Coding. In our proposal, a linear model is derived to allocate the computation for macroblocks in enhancement layers by using the rate distortion costs of the base layer. In addition, an adaptive SP decision algorithm is proposed to decide the number of SPs for motion estimation under the constraint of the allocated computation. Experiment results demonstrate that the proposed algorithm allocates the computation resource efficiently and outperforms other works in rate distortion performance under the same computational availability constraint.

<P>A direct insulator-quantum Hall (I-QH) transition corresponds to a crossover/transition from the insulating regime to a high Landau level filling factor ν > 2 QH state. Such a transition has been attracting a great deal of both experimental and theoretical interests. In this study, we present three different two-dimensional electron systems (2DESs) which are in the vicinity of nanoscaled scatterers. All these three devices exhibit a direct I-QH transition, and the transport properties under different nanaoscaled scatterers are discussed.</P>
Design of a Bidirectional DC/AC Converter with Battery Charging/Discharging/Standing Balance Control
Liang-Rui Chen,Bo-Rui Xu,Chuan-Sheng Liu,Shao-wei Peng,Chia-Hsuan Wu 전력전자학회 2019 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.2019 No.5
Battery cells connected in series have been widely used in high-voltage and high-power applications. In this paper, a single-phase battery energy storage system with battery balance charging, battery balance discharging, and power factor correction capabilities was developed. A prototype suitable for a single-phase 110V power supply was designed and implemented for verification. To verify its performance, three 48V/7Ah battery modules were used as normal batteries, and a 48V/5Ah battery module was used as a retired battery. The experimental results showed that the battery energy storage system has excellent battery balancing capability. Compared with that of the conventional system without balanced control, the balancing performance of the proposed system is increased by about 15.25% and 26.92%, respectively, when the system was operated in the converter and rectifier modes. In addition, the proposed system also had battery fault tolerance, and was compatible with recycled batteries and an independent power supply.

Objective: To evaluate the value of early identification and endovascular treatment of iliac vein compression syndrome (IVCS), with or without deep vein thrombosis (DVT). Materials and Methods: Three groups of patients, IVCS without DVT (group 1, n = 39), IVCS with fresh thrombosis (group 2, n = 52) and IVCS with non-fresh thrombosis (group 3, n = 34) were detected by Doppler ultrasonography, magnetic resonance venography, computed tomography or venography. The fresh venous thrombosis were treated by aspiration and thrombectomy, whereas the iliac vein compression per se were treated with a self-expandable stent. In cases with fresh thrombus, the inferior vena cava filter was inserted before the thrombosis suction, mechanical thrombus ablation, percutaneous transluminal angioplasty, stenting or transcatheter thrombolysis. Results: Stenting was performed in 111 patients (38 of 39 group 1 patients and 73 of 86 group 2 or 3 patients). The stenting was tried in one of group 1 and in three of group 2 or 3 patients only to fail. The initial patency rates were 95% (group 1), 89% (group 2) and 65% (group 3), respectively and were significantly different (p = 0.001). Further, the six month patency rates were 93% (group 1), 83% (group 2) and 50% (group 3), respectively, and were similarly significantly different (p = 0.001). Both the initial and six month patency rates in the IVCS patients (without thrombosis or with fresh thrombosis), were significantly greater than the patency rates of IVCS patients with non-fresh thrombosis. Conclusion: From the cases examined, the study suggests that endovascular treatment of IVCS, with or without thrombosis, is effective.
