        Follicular Bronchiolitis Mimicking Lung Cancer in a Patient with Primary Sjogren’s Syndrome

        Follicular bronchiolitis (FB) is an uncommon pulmonary lymphoproliferative disorder that is characterized by the presence of peribronchiolar hyperplastic lymphoid follicles with reactive germinal centers. FB could be associated with systemic illnesses including immunodeficiency, infection, and autoimmune diseases. In Korea, a single case of FB with rheumatoid arthritis was recently described but there has been no report on FB associated with other rheumatic diseases. Herein, we describe the first case of FB presenting nodular ground-glass opacities (GGO), which mimicked lung cancer, in patients with primary Sjogren’s syndrome (SS). The differential diagnosis of nodular GGO lesions should include FB although it is a rare manifestation in SS patients. (J Rheum Dis 2019;26:206-210)

        Design Studies for a High Resolution Cold Cavity Beam Position Monitor

        <P>In order to preserve a low emittance beam along the ~11 km long main linacs of the International Linear Collider (ILC), precise monitoring and control of the beam orbit is mandatory. A resolution <; 1 μm is required for the beam position monitors (BPM), which are located inside the cryomodules, i.e. operated at cryogenic temperatures. By using the electromagnetic field simulation programs (CST Studio Suite), we have designed a high resolution cold cavity BPM, operating in the L-Band at a 1.3 GHz dipole-mode frequency. This enables the measurement of the beam position with a Project-X like beam structure, as well as with ILC beam parameters at the superconducting RF test accelerator in the Fermilab New Muon Lab (NML) building. The results of the design studies predicts a resolution potential of a few hundred nanometers with a signal decay time of 50 ns.</P>

      • Two New Dipteran Pests on Shiitake Mushroom Camptomyia spp. (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae), in Korea

        Camptomyia is a genus of gall midges belonging to subfamily Porricondilinae. On the study of shiitake mushroom farm in Korea, three species of maggots were collected. Among them, two Camptomyia spp. were recognized as the major pests. Colonies of these maggots were feeding on the mycelium of shiitake mushroom, disturbing the formation of mushroom fruit body. The morphology of C. heterobia and C. corticalis were illustrated with the description.

      • Dark winged fungus gnats (Sciaridae: Diptera) collected from shiitake mushroom in Korea

        Five genera and 7 species of sciarid flies were collected in shiitake mushroom farm from 2007 to 2009. Among them, Lycoriella ingenua was dominant as a possible pest of the shiitake mushroom cultivated in plastic bottles. Other six species are reported for the first time in Korea.

        공사생도의 첨단 전투기 조종에 요구되는 9Gz+ 내성을 위한 신체조성 육성 필요성 탐색

        본 연구의 목적은 생도 생활 4년간 육성된 신체조성이 첨단 전투기 조종에 요구되는 9Gz+ 내성에 적합한지 점검하고 육성 필요성이 있는지 탐색하는 것이다. 이를 위해 F-15 조종자격 획득을 희망하는 조종사 16명을 대상으로 9Gz+ 검사 통과여부에 따른 신체조성의 특성을 구명하고, 생도 4학년 시절의 신체조성과의 변화를 비교분석함으로써 육성 필요성을 탐색하고자 하였다. 연구결과, 첫째, 9Gz+ 검사 통과 조종사들의 신장은 175cm, 체중 75kg, 체지방률 20% 수준으로 미통과 조종사들에 비해 체중 2.5kg, 체지방률 1.7% 등 신체조성 요인들에서 전반적으로 큰 경향을 보였다. 통과 조종사들의 이러한 특성은 타 출신의 9Gz+ 검사 통과 조종사들과 매우 유사하였으며, 타 기수의 생도들이 6Gz+ 검사 통과에서 보인 평균 수치인 신장 175cm, 체중 70kg, 체지방률 14%와는 확연한 차이를 보이는 것이다. 둘째, 9Gz+ 검사 통과 여부에 따라 검사 당시와 4학년 시절의 신체조성을 비교한 결과, 통과한 조종사들에서 생도시절 대비 체중(5kg)과 체지방률(6.7%)이 증가하는 등 미통과 조종사들에 비해 골격근량과 BMR을 제외한 전 요인이 크게 증가하였고, 상호작용효과가 있었다(p<.05). 결론적으로, 통과 조종사들의 신장 175cm 기준 체중 75kg, 체지방률 20% 수준까지 증가한 신체조성은 9Gz+ 검사 통과에 도움이 된 것으로 보이고, 생도시절에 육성된 신체조성을 비교적 잘 유지한 조종사들은 통과에 어려움을 겪은 것으로 나타나, 생도시절부터 9Gz+ 내성에 적합한 신체조성 육성이 필요하다고 하겠다. 생도들의 신체조성 육성을 위해서는 식이섭취는 물론, 평소 활동량도 조정할 수 있도록 생활교육체계 개선이 필요하고, 시행에는 학교와 생도 개개인의 많은 노력과 정착까지의 인내가 소요되어야 한다. 다음에는 체력에서도 실용적인 지향점 설정 노력이 필요하다. High-end fighter needs pilots s 9Gz+ tolerance. Gz+ tolerance, muscle strength and body composition is related with each other. This research is investigated the appropriateness of cadets body composition for 9gz+ tolerance. Participants were 16 applied pilots for F-15 qualification. The data were gathered from 9gz+ test result and body composition measurements. Statistical treatment were processed(by spss 21.0 for windows) by independent t-test for inspecting body compositon s difference by pass/fail and repeated measures ANOVA for body composition s change by period and pass/fail in 9gz+ test. The results were as follows. First, qualified pilots (n=6) mean height(cm) is 175.17cm, body weight(kg) is 75.18kg, body fat(%) is 19.67%. Their body weight(kg) is 2.5kg heavier and body fat(%) is 1.7% higher than unqualified pilots(n=10). Qualified pilots s body composition is very similar with other qualified pilots they graduated university in the same test conditions. Second, qualified pilots body weight(kg) is increased 5kg and body fat(%) is 6.7% compared with their senior cadet period. And interaction effect were showed in body wight(kg), body fat(kg, %), BMI(kg/m2)(p<.05). Conclusively, the appropriate body composition for 9gz+ tolerance is inferred as 175cm, 75kg, 20%(heigh(cm), body weight(kg) and body fat(%)). And cadets mean body composition(174cm, 70kg, 14%) showed lighter than F-15 qualified pilots, so, the need of cadets body composition education is proved. Further researsches for validation of appropriate body compositon in 9gz+ tolerance and fitness are needed.

      • Evolution of Fly-Microorganism Relationships: Macroevolution of Sciaridae (Diptera: Bibionomorpha)

        The synanthropic flies are regarded as the most important vectors of infectious diseases. Especially, feeding and reproductive habits make flies the important vectors of many pathogens such as malaria, yellow fever, dengue fever, typhoid fever, dysentery, and anthrax. Although most of lower flies (e.g. black-flies, mosquitos, sand-flies) transport diseases by bloodsucking, the mechanical dislodgment from exoskeleton is one of the important mechanisms of pathogens transmission for higher flies (Diptera: Brachycera) such as blow-flies, flesh-flies, and house-flies. According to recent phylogenetic studies, the Bibionomorpha is suggested as a sister taxon of the Brachycera as a monophyletic group “Neodiptera”. Coincidently, a part of black fungus gnats (Diptera: Bibionomorpha: Sciaridae) are known as the important vectors of fungal diseases on agricultural crops due to the spores carrying by there fore tibial structures. We propose that the correlation of spore carrying structures and habitats adaptation in the Sciaridae. The evolutionary pathway tests support that the fore tibia structures appeared first and followed by live plant habitats in the Sciaridae. Regarding analyses, we hypothesized that the evolutionary benefit of fungal carrying structures could be closely related with the larval habitats adaptation of Sciaridae. Interestingly, both adults of the synanthropic higher flies and the black fungus gnats are carrying various microorganisms by mechanical dislodgment from there tibial exoskeleton. The common habits of those flies could be providing clues about the evolution of the fly-microorganism interections.

      • DNA Barcoding of Bradysia (Diptera: Sciaridae) for the Identification of Larval Stages on Agriculture Plants.

        Many species of the genus Bradysia larvae are known as agriculture pest, because they are feed on stem or root of agriculture plants. Even though the damages are made by larval stages, the immature stages are hardly identified morphologically. The partial sequences of mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene are constructed for 25 species of Bradysia with the identified voucher specimens. Comparing these data, Bradysia procera, and B. sp.1 (tilicola Group) could be identified from the larvae specimens by molecular COI universal region. Bradysia atracornea, B. nomica, and B. difformis are also confirmed from the larval samples in greenhouse crops, chinese cabbage, onion, and scallion etc. The mean Kimura two-parameter (K2P) interspecific divergence of genus Bradysia was 16.78%, and mean K2P intraspecific divergence was 0.52%.       • Study on the molecular identification of Dark-winged fungus gnats (Diptera: Sciaridae) using mitochondrial COI gene

        In the family Sciaridae, only 3 species have been recorded in Korea, as the pests on various crops and mushrooms in glasshouse (Bradysia difformis Frey, 1948, Bradysia procera (Winnertz, 1868), Lycoriella ingenua (Dufour, 1839)), even though Sciaridae is one of the species-rich families in the order Diptera. There are plenty of species unknown in Korea which are very hard to identify by morphological characters in the larval, pupal stages and also female adults as well. Therefore, using the sequences of cytochrome oxidase I gene (COI) from adult male, we tested the utilities of DNA barcode to identify the species of sciarid flies.

      • Molecular identification of dipteran pest from shiitake mushroom bedlogs

        Cecidomyiidae and Sciaridae (Diptera: Sciaroidea) are mostly mycophagous, feeding on decaying plant materials and fungi. On the shiitake bedlogs, great number of larvae of the species cause serious damage, feeding on the mycelium of the shiitake mushroom. We confirmed five species emerged from the shiitake bedlogs, which are two cecidomyiids and three sciarids. Using the DNA barcording, the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) region (658 bp), the larvae and adult flies were identified, and Camptomyia corticalis was confirmed as a major pest on shiitake mushroom.
