Pedestrian Choices of Vertical Walking Facilities inside Urban Rail Transit Stations

Ning Zhang,Yunlong Zhang,Xiaojun Zhang 대한토목학회 2015 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.19 No.3

This paper investigates pedestrians’ choices between escalator and stairway inside urban rail transit stations during peak hours. After the review of mode choice models, a logit model based on the utility maximization theory is selected. Binary logit models forthe passenger flow distribution are established with walking time, walking distance, gender and age of the passenger as the maininfluencing factors. The influences of these factors are quantitatively analyzed through data collected from three rail transit stationswith different arrangement forms of vertical walking facilities in Nanjing, China. The developed models are verified to produce ahigh accuracy in predicting passengers’ choices of vertical walking facilities. With developed models, sensitivity analyses forselecting escalator for upward and downward pedestrians in the three types of stations are also conducted and compared to furtherreveal the differences in pedestrians' choices of using vertical walking facilities. The modeling procedure and results can provide atheoretical reference for operation decisions, such as the planning of vertical walking facilities and passenger flow organization inbusy rail transit stations.

piRNA-1742 promotes renal cell carcinoma malignancy by regulating USP8 stability through binding to hnRNPU and thereby inhibiting MUC12 ubiquitination

        Zhang Wentao,Zheng Zongtai,Wang Keyi,Mao Weipu,Li Xue,Wang Guangchun,Zhang Yuanyuan,Huang Jianhua,Zhang Ning,Wu Pengfei,Liu Ji,Zhang Haimin,Che Jianping,Peng Bo,Zheng Junhua,Li Wei,Yao Xudong 생화학분자생물학회 2023 Experimental and molecular medicine Vol.55 No.-

Accumulating studies have confirmed that PIWI-interacting RNAs (piRNAs) are considered epigenetic effectors in cancer. We performed piRNA microarray expression analysis on renal cell carcinoma (RCC) tumor tissues and paired normal tissues and performed a series of in vivo and in vitro experiments to explore piRNAs associated with RCC progression and investigate their functional mechanisms. We found that piR-1742 was highly expressed in RCC tumors and that patients with high piR-1742 expression had a poor prognosis. Inhibition of piR-1742 significantly reduced tumor growth in RCC xenograft and organoid models. Mechanistically, piRNA-1742 regulates the stability of USP8 mRNA by binding directly to hnRNPU, which acts as a deubiquitinating enzyme that inhibits the ubiquitination of MUC12 and promotes the development of malignant RCC. Subsequently, nanotherapeutic systems loaded with piRNA-1742 inhibitors were found to effectively inhibit the metastasis and growth of RCC in vivo. Therefore, this study highlights the functional importance of piRNA-related ubiquitination in RCC and demonstrates the development of a related nanotherapeutic system, possibly contributing to the development of therapeutic approaches for RCC.

Molecular and phylogenetic analysis of Anaplasma spp. in sheep and goats from six provinces of China

        Yan Zhang,Yali Lv,Feifei Zhang,Wenjing Zhang,Jinhong Wang,Yanyan Cui,Rongjun Wang,Fuchun Jian,Longxian Zhang,Changshen Ning 대한수의학회 2016 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.17 No.4

Members of the genus Anaplasma are important emerging tick-borne pathogens in both humans and animals in tropical and subtropical areas. Here, we investigated the presence of Anaplasma spp. in 621 sheep and 710 goats from six provinces of China. Polymerase chain reaction(PCR) and DNA sequencing were conducted to determine the prevalence of Anaplasma (A.) phagocytophilum, A. ovis and A. bovis targetingthe 16S ribosomal RNA or the major surface protein 4 gene. PCR revealed Anaplasma in 39.0% (240/621) of sheep and 45.5% (323/710)of goats. The most frequently detected species was A. ovis (88/621, 14.2% for sheep; 129/710, 18.2% for goats), followed by A. bovis (60/621,9.7% for sheep; 74/710, 10.4% for goats) and A. phagocytophilum (33/621, 5.3% for sheep; 15/710, 2.1% for goats). Additionally, eight sheepand 20 goats were found to be infected with three pathogens simultaneously. DNA sequencing confirmed the presence of these three Anaplasmaspecies in the investigated areas, and phylogenetic analysis indicated that there was geographic segregation to a certain extent, as well as arelationship between the host and cluster of A. ovis. The results of the present study provide valuable data that helps understand theepidemiology of anaplasmosis in ruminants from China.

Design of a Light and Small Dual-band Airborne Despun Optical System

        Luqing Zhang,Ning Zhang,Xiping Xu,Kailin Zhang,Yue Zhang,Jiachong Li 한국광학회 2024 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.8 No.1

In aerial cameras, image quality is easily affected by weather, temperature, and the attitude of the aircraft. Aiming at this phenomenon, based on the theory of two-step zoom optical systems, a dual-band optical-despun two-step zoom optical system is designed. The system has a small field of view of 2.00° × 1.60°, and a large field of view of 4.00° × 3.20°. In the zoom process, the wavelength range is 0.45– 0.70 μm and 0.75–1.10 μm, and the size of the optical system is 168 mm (L) × 90 mm (W) × 60 mm (H). The overall lens weight is only 170.8 g, which has advantages for miniaturization and light weight. At the Nyquist frequency of 104 lp/mm, the modulation transfer function of the visible-light optical system is more than 0.44, and that of the near-infrared optical system is more than 0.30, both of which havegood imaging quality and tolerance characteristics in the range of −45 to 60 ℃.

Preclinical Study of Cell Therapy for Osteonecrosis of the Femoral Head with Allogenic Peripheral Blood-Derived Mesenchymal Stem Cells

        Tao Zhang,Qiang Fu,Ning-Ning Tang,Qian Zhang,Yi Liu,Jia-Chen Peng,Ning Fang,Li-Mei Yu,Jin-Wei Liu 연세대학교의과대학 2016 Yonsei medical journal Vol.57 No.4

Purpose: To explore the value of transplanting peripheral blood-derived mesenchymal stem cells from allogenic rabbits (rPBMSCs)to treat osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). Materials and Methods: rPBMSCs were separated/cultured from peripheral blood after granulocyte colony-stimulating factor mobilization. Afterwards, mobilized rPBMSCs from a second passage labeled with PKH26 were transplanted into rabbit ONFH models, which were established by liquid nitrogen freezing, to observe the effect of rPBMSCs on ONFH repair. Then, the mRNA expressions of BMP-2 and PPAR-γ in the femoral head were assessed by RT-PCR. Results: After mobilization, the cultured rPBMSCs expressed mesenchymal markers of CD90, CD44, CD29, and CD105, but failed to express CD45, CD14, and CD34. The colony forming efficiency of mobilized rPBMSCs ranged from 2.8 to 10.8 per million peripheralmononuclear cells. After local transplantation, survival of the engrafted cells reached at least 8 weeks. Therein, BMP-2 was up-regulated, while PPAR-γ mRNA was down-regulated. Additionally, bone density and bone trabeculae tended to increase gradually. Conclusion: We confirmed that local transplantation of rPBMSCs benefits ONFH treatment and that the beneficial effects are relatedto the up-regulation of BMP-2 expression and the down-regulation of PPAR-γ expression.

      • Structural characterization of the pulmonary innate immune protein SPLUNC1 and identification of lipid ligands

        Ning, Fangkun,Wang, Chao,Berry, Karin Zemski,Kandasamy, Pitchaimani,Liu, Haolin,Murphy, Robert C.,Voelker, Dennis R.,Nho, Chu Won,Pan, Choel-Ho,Dai, Shaodong,Niu, Liwen,Chu, Hong-Wei,Zhang, Gongyi The Federation of American Societies for Experimen 2014 The FASEB Journal Vol.28 No.12

<P>The short palate, lung and nasal epithelial clone 1 (SPLUNC1) protein is a member of the palate, lung, and nasal epithelium clone (PLUNC) family, also known as bactericidal/permeability-increasing (BPI) fold-containing protein, family A, member 1 (BPIFA1). SPLUNC1 is an abundant protein in human airways, but its function remains poorly understood. The lipid ligands of SPLUNC1 as well as other PLUNC family members are largely unknown, although some reports provide evidence that lipopolysaccharide (LPS) could be a lipid ligand. Unlike previous hypotheses, we found significant structural differences between SPLUNC1 and BPI. Recombinant SPLUNC1 produced in HEK 293 cells harbored several molecular species of sphingomyelin and phosphatidylcholine as its ligands. Significantly, <I>in vitro</I> lipid-binding studies failed to demonstrate interactions between SPLUNC1 and LPS, lipoteichoic acid, or polymyxin B. Instead, one of the major and most important pulmonary surfactant phospholipids, dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC), bound to SPLUNC1 with high affinity and specificity. We found that SPLUNC1 could be the first protein receptor for DPPC. These discoveries provide insight into the specific determinants governing the interaction between SPLUNC1 and lipids and also shed light on novel functions that SPLUNC1 and other PLUNC family members perform in host defense.—Ning, F., Wang, C., Berry, K. Effects of boron source composition ratio on the microstructure and adsorption performance of hexagonal boron nitride prepared by template method

        Zhang Ning,Liu Huan,Zhang Tianwen,Kan Hongmin,Wang Xiaoyang,Cui Xingyu 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2016 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.17 No.3

The paper was prepared spherical hexagonal boron nitride with different microstructures under flowing ammoniaatmosphere. The effect of boron source component ratios (molar ratio of borax and boric acid) on the phase composition ofthe sample were studied: the work also explored the effect of boron source component ratio on the microstructure andadsorption performance of h-BN. Spherical hexagonal boron nitride had corresponding to shell structure, mesoporousstructure, and solid structure when the ratio of boron source components respectively was 1 : 0.5, 1 : 1, and 1 : 2. Between 1 : 1and 1:0.5, the former had an lower adsorptions at low relative pressures. On the contrary, the adsorption of former wouldincreased at higher relative pressures and reached up 276.02 cm3 g−1, and the maximum adsorption of the latter reached only228.20 cm3 g−1. Under any relative pressure, the adsorption capacity was the lowest when the boron source composition ratiowas 1 : 2.

Application of Terahertz Spectroscopy and Imaging in the Diagnosis of Prostate Cancer

        Zhang, Ping,Zhong, Shuncong,Zhang, Junxi,Ding, Jian,Liu, Zhenxiang,Huang, Yi,Zhou, Ning,Nsengiyumva, Walter,Zhang, Tianfu Optical Society of Korea 2020 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.4 No.1

The feasibility of the application of terahertz electromagnetic waves in the diagnosis of prostate cancer was examined. Four samples of incomplete cancerous prostatic paraffin-embedded tissues were examined using terahertz spectral imaging (TPI) system and the results obtained by comparing the absorption coefficient and refractive index of prostate tumor, normal prostate tissue and smooth muscle from one of the paraffin tissue masses examined were reported. Three hundred and sixty cases of absorption coefficients from one of the paraffin tissues examined were used as raw data to classify these three tissues using the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Least Squares Support Vector Machine (LS-SVM). An excellent classification with an accuracy of 92.22% in the prediction set was achieved. Using the distribution information of THz reflection signal intensity from sample surface and absorption coefficient of the sample, an attempt was made to use the TPI system to identify the boundaries of the different tissues involved (prostate tumors, normal and smooth muscles). The location of three identified regions in the terahertz images (frequency domain slice absorption coefficient imaging, 1.2 THz) were compared with those obtained from the histopathologic examination. The tissue tumor region had a distinctively visible color and could well be distinguished from other tissue regions in terahertz images. Results indicate that a THz spectroscopy imaging system can be efficiently used in conjunction with the proposed advanced computer-based mathematical analysis method to identify tumor regions in the paraffin tissue mass of prostate cancer.

S-I model of horizontal jet grouting reinforcement for soft soil

        Zhang, Ning,Li, Zhongyin,Ma, Qingsong,Ma, Tianchi,Niu, Xiaodong,Liu, Xixi,Feng, Tao Techno-Press 2018 Geomechanics & engineering Vol.15 No.5

A superposition-iteration (S-I) model is proposed to simulate the jet grouting pre-reinforcing impact for a shallow-buried tunnel. The common model is deduced by theoretical (force equilibrium) analysis and then transformed into the numerical formulation. After applying it to an actual engineering problem, the most obvious deficiency was found to be continuous error accumulation, even when the parameters change slightly. In order to address this problem, a superposition-iteration model is developed based on the basic assumption and superposition theory. First, the additional deflection between two successive excavation steps is determined. This is caused by the disappearance of the supporting force in the excavated zone and the soil pressure in the disturbed zone. Consequently, the final deflection can be obtained by repeatedly superposing the additional deflection to the initial deflection in the previous steps. The analytical solution is then determined with the boundary conditions. The superposition-iteration model is thus established. This model was then applied and found to be suitable for real-life engineering applications. During the calculation, the error induced by the ill-conditioned problem of the matrix is easily addressed. The precision of this model is greater compared to previous models. The sensitivity factors and their impact are determined through this superposition-iteration model.
