        A New Sesame Variety, “Kangbaek” with Disease Resistance, Lodging Tolerence and High Yield

        A new sesame variety Kangbaek was developed from Yeongnam Agricultural Research Institute in 2004. Cros wasmade by lodging resistant SP9003-3 line to the F1with high yielding capacity, folowed by pedigree selection, yield test and RYT by the sesame breeding team at the National Insti-tute of Crop Science up to 2003. The variety showed higher disease resistance, especially phytophothra disease, and lodging resis-respectively. It's 1000 grains weight was about 2.54 g indicating 0.03 g heavier than that of Yangbaekkae, and it's oil content wasabout 52%. Kangbaek also contained total 7.65mg/g of such lignans as sesamin and sesamolin. The average yield of Kang-baek was 82 kg per 10a at the national-wide regional performance.

        <P>On page 5433, Yong‐Young Noh, Antonio Facchetti, Kang‐Jun Baeg, and co‐workers report that high performance ambipolar complementary inverters and ring oscillators are provided by a remarkable enhancement of both hole injection and transport for n‐channel dominant N2200 OFETs. The significant enhancement of hole mobility in N2200 OTFTs is attributed to the strong dipoles in fluorinated high‐k gate dielectric blend of P(VDF‐TrFE):PMMA. </P>

        Uncertainty of the elastic buckling formula of a thin tube is considered. The measuring uncertainty of Young’s modulus and Poisson’s ratio and the tolerance of the tube thickness and diameter are dealt with. The elastic buckling should be absolutely prohibited for a thin tube like a nuclear fuel rod that should satisfy a self-stand criterion. Since the predicted critical buckling pressure overestimated the actual one observed from an experiment, determination of the minimum safety factor is crucial. The uncertainty of each parameter (i.e., Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio, thickness and diameter) is mutually independent, so the safety factor is evaluated as the sum of the inverse of each uncertainty. It is found that the thickness variation strongly affects the uncertainty. The minimum safety factor of a thin tube of Zirconium alloy needs to be from 1.547 to 3.487 for the thickness of 0.87 and 0.254 ㎜, respectively.

        지르코늄 합금 관의 임계좌굴 압력 산정을 위한 최소안전율

        얇은 관 탄성좌굴 공식의 불확실성을 고려하기 위해, 공식을 구성하는 파라미터인 튜브재료의 탄성계수, 푸아송 비, 튜브 두께 및 지름의 불확실성을 분석하였다. 본 연구는 원자로에서 연소되는 핵연료봉과 같이 사용 중 함몰을 엄격히 방지하고 있는 얇은 관의 설계신뢰도를 향상시키는 데에 중요하다. 분석 방법은 각각의 파라미터가 변화할 수 있는 범위를 충분히 포함할 수 있는 최소의 탄성좌굴 안전율을 구하고 이를 선형적으로 합하여 최종의 최소안전율을 구하였다. 최소 안전율에 가장 큰 영향을 미치는 파라미터는 관의 두께로 나타났다. 두께가 얇을수록 더 큰 최소안전율이 필요하며 예로 적용한 지르코늄 합금관의 경우, 두께가 0.254 와 0.87 ㎜ 일 때 최소안전율은 각각 1.547 과 3.487 로 나타났다.         하악전돌증 환자의 악교정 수술후 하악과두의 위치변화에 대한 연구

        Purpose : This study was aimed at analysis of the changes in the condyle position in subjects with mandibular setback osteotomies Method : Twenty patients were evaluated retrospectively for their changes in the condyle position who underwent surgical mandibular setback using bilateral sagittal split osteotomies with a manual condyle repositioning technique and rigid fixation. The cephalometric and panoramic analysis was performed preoperatively, 1 week, 6 months, and 1 year postoperatively. And postoperative noise, temporomandibular joint pain, and mouth opening were clinically examined 2 months, 4 months, 6 months, 8 months, 10 months, and 12 months postoperatively. Result : The condyles rotated posteriorly and laterally immediately after surgery, and they returned to the preoperative position during follow-up period but it is not significant. The statistical analysis (Paired t-test) showed no significant effects in postsurgical stability. The changes in the condyle position didn't have a significant harmful influence on temporomandibular joint disorder. Conclusion: A careful surgical mandibular setback using manual condyle repositioning and fixation technique will move condyle minimally and that will decrease the relapse and temporomandibular joint disorder.

        유기용제 중독에 의한 중추신경장애 1예

        We report a case of demyelinating lesion in central nervous system in a 38-year-old female patient who suffered from muscle weakness and disability of standing by herself. She worked for 10 hours in a day at the small footwear factory about 1 year in 1990. Physical examinations showed normal except increased DTRs in the elbows and knees. Clinical laboratory findings were within normal limits. Brain CT and EMC findings were normal. But, brain MRI showed small multiple high signal intensity area on T2 weighted image in right frontal white matter, right fronto-parietal periventricular white matter with localized atrophy in genu and rostrum of corpus callosum. There were no ventilation system in the factory. By the evaluation of work environment 1½ months later, high concentration of toluene, MEK, n-hexane, MIBK, acetone and cyclohexane were detected. We suppose her demyelinating lesion was caused by toluene alone or mixed solvents with toluene and others.

        III급 부정교합 어린이의 수완부 골성숙과 하악 3대구치 발육에 대한 연구

        본 연구는 I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합 어린이의 수완부 골성숙 단계와 하악 제3대구치 발육을 비교 · 평가하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 전남대학교병원 소아치과에 내원한 환자들로 8세부터 15세 사이의 Angle I급 부정교합을 지난 남자 149명,여자 155명 그리고 Angle III급 부정교합을 지닌 남자 153명,여자 155명,총 612명을 대상으로 하였으며 골성숙 단계 평가를 위해 수완부 사진을 이용한 Fishman의 방법을 사용하였고 하악 제3대구치의 발육 단계를 평가하기 위해 Orthopantomogram을 이용한 Gat 등의 New Six-Developmental-Stage 방법으로 판독하여 다음과 같은 결과를 얻었다. 1. 골성숙 단계는 I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합군 모두 전반적으로 여자가 남자보다 빠르나(p<O.05) 하악 제3대구치의 석회화 단계는 성별 차이가 없었다. 2. 남녀별 골성숙 단계와 하악 제3대구치의 석회화 단계는 I급과 III급 부정교합군 간에서 유의한 차이가 없었다. 3. I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합군의 수완부 골성숙 단계와 하악 제3대구치 석회화 단계 사이의 상관관계는 두 군 모두 높은 상관성을 보였다(p<O.O1). 4. I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합군의 하악 제3대구치 석회화 단계와 연령사이의 상관관계는 두 군 모두 높은 상관성을 보였다(p<O.O1). 이상의 결과로 수완부 골성숙도와 하악 제3대구치 발육은 I급 부정교합과 III급 부정교합군 간에 차이가 없었다. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of the skeletal maturity of hand-wrist and the development of mandibular third molar in subjects with class I and class III malocclusion. The subjects used in this study were 304 children(149 boys, 155 girls) with class I malocclusions and 308 children(153 boys, 155 girls) with class III malocclusions, ranged from 8 to 15 years of age. Hand-wrist radiographs and panoramic radiographs were used to evaluate the stage of skeletal maturity and teeth development. Fishman s method for the skeletal maturity stages of the hand-wrist and new six-developmental-stage method for the calcification stages of mandibular third molars were analyzed. The results were as follows: 1. In subjects with class I and class III malocclusion, skeletal maturity of the hand-wrist occured earlier in females than in ma1es(p<0.05), while the calcification stages of mandibular third molars were no significant gender differences. 2. There were no significant differences between the groups, when comparing the skeletal maturity stages of the hand-wrist and the calcification stages of mandibular third molars between subjects with the class I and the class III malocclusion. 3. The correlation coefficients between the calcification stages of mandibular third molars and the skeletal maturity stages of the hand-wrist in subjects with class I and class III malocclusion showed a high interrelationship(p<0.01). 4. The correlation coefficients between the calcification stages of mandibular third molars and chronological age in subjects with class I and class III malocclusion showed a high interrelationship (p<0.01). As a result, there were no significant differences between class I and class III malocclusion group for skeletal maturity of the hand-wrist and third molar development.

      • 모 축전지 회사 근로자들의 연폭로 지표에 대한 경시적 관찰

        Lead poisoning is still prevalent and one of important occupational disease in Korea. To prevent undue high lead burden and maintain good health condition of lead workers in lead using industries, periodic health examination and regular biological monitoring of lead workers are often required in addition to the fundamental improvement of their working condition. To evaluate the effect of comprehensive occupational health program with regular biological monitoring on the level of lead exposure of lead workers in lead using industries, 11 year database from 1983 to 1994 of one storage battery factory was reviewed. From 1983 to end of 1986 only periodic health examination was provided to the lead workers, but from 1987 comprehensive occupational health program with regular biological monitoring was provided to maintain better health condition of lead workers. Selected study variables for lead exposure were blood lead(PbB), zinc protoporphyrin in blood(ZPP), δ-aminolevulinic acid in urine(ALAU), hemoglobin(Hb), hematocrit(HCT). Information on sex, age and work duration was also reviewed. 5 years data from 1983 to 1987 and 3 years data from 1990, 1993 and 1994 were available for all lead exposure indices except ALAU which has only 5 years data from 1983 to 1997. The results of 11 years longitudinal observation of lead indices are all follows: 1. The mean value of ZPP of lead workers in 1983 was 148.7±73.1 ㎍/㎗(Male: 145.5±72.3, Female: 168.1±79.1), whereas that of ZPP of lead workers in 1994 was decreased to 64.3±32.7 ㎍/㎗(Male: 60.2±28.8, Female: 95.2±43.4). 2. The mean value of PbB of lead workers in 1983 was 56.4±18.8 ㎍/㎗(Male: 55.59±19.1, Female: 59.6±19.1), whereas that of PbB of lead workers in 1994 was dcreased to 35.4±11.9 ㎍/㎗(Male: 35.7±12.0, Female: 32.8±10.8). 3. The mean value of Hb of lead workers in 1983 was 14.1±1.4 g/㎗(Male: 14.4±1.1, Female: 11.7±0.8), whereas that of Hb of lead workers in 1994 was increased to 15.6±1.5 g/㎗(Male: 15.9±1.2, Female: 12.9±1.1). 4. Blood lead is most highly correlated with ZPP(r=0.522, male:0.54 and female:0.50) and also correlated with ALAU and work duration also. 5. The simple regression analysis of PbB and ZPP showed different coefficient of regression by the measurement year, but there was no difference of coefficient of regression between sex. The slope of equation of pooled data for 1983-1986 without comprehensive occupational health program was 2.16 and differed from that of pooled data for 1987-1994(1.25). This difference suggests that the unit effect of blood lead on ZPP was relatively smaller in later period of comprehensive occupational health program than carly period without comprehensive program. The slope change in the analysis of linear regression of PbB on ZPP in lead workers can be used to evaluate the possible effect of health intervention to prevent undue high lead absorption in lead using industries. 6. 11 years occupational health service in this storage battery factory brought out considerable improvement of health status of lead workers in terms of decrease of PbB and ZPP and increase of Hb and the improvement was more remarkable after the introduction of comprehensive occupational health program.

        변위 매복된 상악 중절치의 맹출유도

        매복치아란 어떤 원인에 의하여 구강점막이나 약골내에서 치아의 맹출이 중지된 상태를 말하며, 악궁내의 어떠한 치아도 매복될 수 있으나 가장 흔하게 이환되는 치아는 상, 하악 제 3대구치, 상악 견치, 상, 하악 제 2소구치, 상악 중절치의 순으로 나타난다. 이 중 상악 영구 전치의 매복률은 0.1-0.5%정도이며 매복 원인으로는 여러 가지가 있으나 유전치의 외상, 과잉치, 치근단 병소로 인한 매복이 흔하며 조기에 적절히 치료되지 못하면 정중선의 변위, 인접치에 의한 맹출공간 감소, 치조골 높이의 차이 등의 결과를 유발한다. 치료로는 주기적 관찰방법, 매복치의 맹출로가 정상이며 치근이 미완성일 경우 상부 연조직과 경조직을 단순히 제거하여 맹출을 유도하거나 외과적 노출 후 매복치를 교정 하는 방법, 치아이식술, 발치 등을 시행할 수 있다. 본 증례들은 상악 중절치의 맹출 지연을 주소로 본원에 내원한 환아들로 상악 중절치의 변위 배복을 외과적 노출과 교정적 견인을 시행하여 양호한 결과를 얻어 보고하는 바이다. Tooth impaction is defined as a cessation of the eruption of a tooth at the level of the oral mucosa or alveolar bone by any causes. Any tooth in the dental arch can be impacted, but the teeth frequently involved in a descending order are the mandibular and maxillary third molars, the maxillary canines, the mandibular and maxillary second premolars, and the maxillary central incisors. In these teeth, impaction of maxillary incisor occurs in about 0.1-0.5% and major causes are trauma, supernumerary teeth and periapical inflammation of primary maxillary incisor. Delayed eruption of a maxillary central incisor results in midline shift, the space's being occupied by an adjacent tooth and different levels of alveolar height. Treatment options are observation, surgical intervention, surgical exposure and orthodontic traction, trans-plantation and extraction. These cases were about the patients with delayed eruption of maxillary central incisor. We surgically exposed impacted tooth and guided it into normal position by the orthodontic traction. At the completion of traction, the maxillary central incisor was positoned fairly within the arch and complications such as root resorption were not observed.
