Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)/carbon monoxide (CO) axis suppresses RANKL-induced osteoclastic differentiation by inhibiting redox-sensitive NF-κB activation

Heme oxygenase (HO-1) catalyzes heme to carbon monoxide (CO), biliverdin/bilirubin, and iron and is known to prevent the pathogenesis of several human diseases. We assessed the beneficial effect of heme degradation products on osteoclastogenesis induced by receptor activator of NF-κB ligand (RANKL). Treatment of RAW264.7 cells with CORM-2 (a CO donor) and bilirubin, but not with iron, decreased RANKLinduced osteoclastogenesis, with CORM-2 having a more potent anti-osteogenic effect. CORM-2 also inhibited RANKLinduced osteoclastogenesis and osteoclastic resorption activity in marrow-derived macrophages. Treatment with hemin, a HO-1 inducer, strongly inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis in wild-type macrophages, but was ineffective in HO-1^+/-cells. CORM-2 reduced RANKL-induced NFATc1 expression by inhibiting IKK-dependent NF-κB activation and reactive oxygen species production. These results suggest that CO potently inhibits RANKL-induced osteoclastogenesis by inhibiting redox-sensitive NF-κB-mediated NFATc1 expression. Our findings indicate that HO-1/CO can act as an antiresorption agent and reduce bone loss by blocking osteoclast differentiation. [BMB Reports 2017; 50(2): 103-108]

원/달러 환율과 엔/달러 환율의 시차동조성

This study is aimed to investigate lead-lag relation between won-dollar exchange rate and yen-dollar exchange rate. The result of Ljung-Box Q test on the cross-correlation analysis show that during the past the decade the nominal won-dollar exchange rate have 12 days time-lag cross correlation to the nominal yen-dollar exchange rate. But in the volatile period after IMF bailout package, there was no significant result. We performed the three kinds of causality test, Granger causality test, Sims' test of exogeneity and Geweke-Meese-Dent test, The evidence of the three causality tests suggests that the nominal change of yen-dollar exchange rate unidirectionally cause the nominal change won-dollar exchange rate for 12 days. In the volatile period after IMF bailout package, there was also no significant result in these tests. And in the real change of exchange rate, we have no significant cross-correlation except the stable period after IMF bailout package. Thus, the nominal change of yen-dollar exchange rate except the volatile period would contain any information exploitable in forecasting the nominal change of yen-dollar exchange rate and have the predictive value of leading indicators. The incidence of coexisting hyperparathyroidism and empty sella syndrome is rare and the etiology and incidence of their coexistence is not known. The association of hyperparathyroidism and the empty sella syndrome may be related to multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) syndrome due to a genetic disorder. We experienced a rare case of hyperparathyroidism presenting as acute pancreatitis combined with empty sella. We report here a 37-year old female who manifested epigastric pain because of acute pancreatitis. She had hypercalcemia due to parathyroid adenoma. A pituitary gland was not visible in the sella turcica on MRI scans. On genetic analysis, she did not show a mutation of the MENIN gene. Empty sella is thought to be a coincidental finding with hyperparathyroidism.

Primary retroperitoneal mucinous cystadenocarcinoma is a very rare malignancy, and little is known concerning its Pathogenesis, optimal treatment, and prognosis. A 29-year-o1d pregnant woman (21 weeks) Presented with abdominal discomfort CA 19-9, CA 125, and CEA were normal Abdominal CT scanning revealed a 19x15x13 cm retropentoneal tumor Exploratory laparotomy and tumor excision were performed. Mucinous retropentoneal implants were removed as completely as possible Histologically, the tumor showed focal areas of capsular invasion, but free resection margins The uterus and both ovaries were normal in appearance No adjuvant therapy was pursued. Six months later, Peritoneal and bilateral ovarian metastases were discovered. Hence, we report the details of this case of primary retroperitoneal mucinous Cystadeno-carcinoma and present a review of the literature.

고온 유리의 프레스 성형 공정 시뮬레이션

This paper addresses a method for numerical simulation in the pressing process of hot glass. Updated Lagrangian finite element formulations are employed for the flow and energy equations to accommodate moving meshes. The model is assumed axi-symmetric and creep flow is assumed due to the high viscosity. Commercial software ANSYS is used to solve the coupled flow and energy equations. Moving contact points as well as free surface during the pressing are effectively calculated and updated by utilizing API functions of CAD software Unigraphics. The mesh distortion problem near the wall is overcome by automatic remeshing, and the temperatures of the new mesh are conveniently interpolated by using a unique function of ANSYS. The developed model is applied to the pressing process of TV glasses. In conclusion, the presented method shows that the pressing process accompanying moving boundary can be simulated by effectively combining general purpose softwares without resorting to special dedicated codes.

This study proposes a technique utilizing virtual information instead of real information in a teleoperated wiping operation. A teleoperation system composed of a master manipulator, a slave manipulator, and a real-time control system is used for this study. Both the master and slave manipulator have a kinematic structure effectively conveying and following the operator’s command respectively. The master manipulator uses DC servo motors to do a major role for counter balancing. A force sensor attached at the end of the slave manipulator’s end effector is used to measure a contact force. MATLAB/xPC Target is used for real-time control of the teleoperation system in Windows OS. This study proposes algorithms for generating the virtual force and the virtual velocity. They are generated as the master manipulator’s grip moves up and down, and back and forth. A force-force control technique proposing in this paper uses the virtual force as a reference input for the contact force control, and uses the virtual velocity as a reference input for control the slave manipulator’s horizontal movement. A PID controller is used as a local controller for the contact force control. In order to show the effectiveness of the proposing force-force control technique, experiments are performed on a plastic plate with two bumps.

개의 아토피 피부염에 대한 Leflunomide의 임상적 적용 1례

A Shih-tzu(8-year-old, castrated male) was referred to the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital of Chungnam National University with the history of relapsing pruritus, recurrent dermatitis. On the physical examination, generalized erythema, otitis externa, alopecia and lichenification were observed. Using Favrot's criteria for diagnishing atopic dermatitis, 7 criteria were satisfied out of 8 criteria. After treatment for infection, intradermal skin test was performed(positive allergen : Df, Dp). And then immunotherapy was performed, but clinical signs were not getting better. Next treatment of glucocorticoid shown little improvement of clinical signs, and adverse effect(diarrhea) was shown after cyclosporine application. So application of leflunomide which is used for human atopic dermatitis treatment in some case was planned. After 6 months of application of leflunomide, clinical signs were decreased gradually.

It is important to interpret the soil chemical properties in order to effectively manage the farmland. This study was conducted to investigate the soil chemical properties of upland soybean field according to the soil series at 32 upland fields located in the parts of Gangwon-do. Soil sampling sites were selected by using the National Statistics DB and KSIS DB that is a soil environment information system provided by the Rural Development Administration. Soil samples were collected from 0~15 cm of top soil before seeding or transplanting, air-dried, passed through a 2 mm sieve, and analyzed for soil pH, EC, organic matter, available phosphorus (P2O5), exchangeable potassium, exchangeable calcium and exchangeable magnesium. The average chemical properties have exceeded the each nutrient optimum range level of RDA, except the organic matter in experimental soil 2015. And despite application of conventional fertilization, each soil series nutrient contents were change respectively. The results of this study suggest that conventional fertilization should be applied based on the analysis about the amount of accumulated nutrient contents in the soil.

In this paper, biofeedback anal spincter control system is designed and implemented. This system is useful for training and cure anal spincter for idiopathic chronic constipation patient or idiopathic chronic and nerogenic fecal incontinence patient. This paper includes anal spincter EMG amplifier and signal processor in order to amplify and detect anal spincter EMG signal of several microvolts without distortion. It is also includes monitoring system to confirm anal spincter EMG signal using LED display and speaker sound output.

AB 슬라이드, 크런치 및 윗몸일으키기 운동이 복직근 근활성도에 미치는 효과 : Comparison of It `s Myoelectrical Activities with Crunch and Sit-Up

The purpose of this study was to compare the effect of AB slide™ on abdominal muscles with Crunch and Sit-up. Myoelectrical activities of Rectus abdominis muscles produced by AB slide™, Crunch and Sit-up were recorded. Healthy male aged from 17 to 36 years(23.0±5.9 yrs) were included fo the test. Surface electrodes were attached to upper and lower part of Rectus abdominis of the study subjects. Averaged integrated electromyography(AIEMG) and Normalized integrated electromyography(NIEMG) were recorded. The results are summarized as follows; First, the AIEMG of Sit-up were highest among them with insignificant difference statistically. Second, the NIEMG of upper part of Rectus abdominis were higher than the one of lower part with significant difference statistically(p<0.05). This phenomenon was same irrespective of the type of exercises. AB slide™ was not more effective than Sit-up and Crunch for strengthening of Rectus abdominis muscle. The upper part of Rectus abdominis was more activated than the lower part by all three exercises.
