      • Comparison of the effect between DPP-4 Inhibitors on lipid profile of patients with type 2 diabetes

        Objective: We investigated the effects of two classes of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitors, linagliptin and gemigliptin, on lipid profiles of patients with type 2 diabetes. Research Design and Methods: In the retrospective study, a total of 135 patients with type 2 diabetes were enrolled. Linagliptin (LG, 5 mg once daily, n=67) or gemigliptin (GG, 50 mg once daily, n=68) were added to their existing hypoglycemic medications. After 24 weeks, lipid parameters, including total cholesterol (TC), triglyceride (TG), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), and low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) were measured. Results: The mean age and diabetes duration were 57 ± 9.6 and 8.0 ±6.3 years, respectively. There were no differences in baseline characteristics such as age (p=0.319), diabetes duration (p=0.832), HbA1c (p=0.465), and lipid profiles. After 24 weeks of treatment, the changes of HbA1c from baseline were similar between groups (p=0.174). Regarding to lipid profiles, TC level was significantly decreased after treatment in both groups (p<0.05 in each), but there were no significant differences in the changes of TC levels between LG and GG group (p=0.06). At 24 weeks, LDL-C level was more decreased in the LG group (-9.2 ± 24.6 mg/dL, p=0.048) compared with that of the GG group (-6.8 ± 28.9 mg/dL, p=0.063). However, LDL levels at 24 weeks were similar between the two groups (p=0.083). Conclusions: Linagliptin and gemigliptin showed similar effects on TC and TG for 24 weeks of treatment. TC levels were significantly decreased after treatment in both groups. But linagliptin\ showed a significant decrease in LDL-C level compared to gemigliptin during the study period.

        Ticks Collected from Selected Mammalian Hosts Surveyed in the Republic of Korea During 2008-2009

        A tick survey was conducted to determine the relative abundance and distribution of ticks associated with selected mammals in the Republic of Korea (ROK) during 2008-2009. A total of 918 ticks were collected from 76 mammals (6 families, 9 species) captured at 6 provinces and 3 Metropolitan Cities in ROK. Haemaphysalis longicornis (54.4%) was the most frequently collected tick, followed by Haemaphysalis flava (28.5%), Ixodes nipponensis (7.6%), Ixodes pomerantzevi (4.8%), Ixodes persulcatus (4.6%), and Haemaphysalis japonica (0.1%). Adults (57.0%) and nymphs (28.7%) of Ixodes and Haemaphysalis spp. were collected most frequently from medium or large mammals in this survey, while few larvae (14.3%) were collected. Hydropotes inermis was the most frequently captured mammal (52.6%), with a 16.4 tick index and 5 of 6 species of ticks collected during this survey. H. longicornis (69.7%) was the predominant tick collected from H. inermis, followed by H. flava (22.2%), I. persulcatus (6.1%), I. nipponensis (1.8%), and H. japonica (0.2%).

        뇌동맥 혈전증을 동반한 발작성 야간혈색소뇨증 1 예

        Paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria(PNH) is a rare, nonfamilial disorder of insidious onset and chronic course characterized by abnormal sensitivity of blood cells to the lytic action of complements. This disorder is associated ith a striking predisposition to intravenous thrombosis, of which fatal thrombosis usually involve the brain or portal system. However, arterial thrombosis is rare, and PNH shoud be considered among the unusual causes of ischemic cerebral infarcts in young adults. We experienced a case of cerebral arterial thrombosis associated with PNH in 36-year-old women patient complained of left hemeplegia and easy fatigability for about 17years. Ham's test showed positive reaction of 25% hemolysis. Our patient showed signs of reght middle and anterior cerebral arterial occlusion: this was documented by computed tomographic (CT) scan, magnetic resonance image (MRI) and magnetic resonance(MR) angiography. We present this case with a review of the literature.

      • Multi-Order Dynamic Range DNA Sensor Using a Gold Decorated SWCNT Random Network

        <P>A novel electrical DNA biosensor is presented, which consists of gold (Au) nanoscale islands and a single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) network on top of a concentric Au electrode array (also referred to as the CGi). The decorated Au islands on the SWCNT network provide ideal docking sites for ss-DNA probe (p-DNA) molecules. They also provide better adhesion between the SWCNT network and the chip substrate. In addition, the concentric electrode gives asymmetric current voltage characteristics in the solution and provides more flexible bias options to the electrodes. The sensor system is applied to a DNA sensor after functionalization with a 25mer p-DNA (5′-HSC<SUB>6</SUB>-C<SUB>18</SUB>-GCCATTCTCACCGGATTCAGTCGTC-3′), hereafter called the [CGi+p-DNA]. The response of the DNA sensor has been measured in both real-time during hybridization with the complementary target ss-DNAs (t-DNA) and the static mode after the hybridization and washing steps. A wide dynamic range from the 100 fM to 1 μM has been achieved from the real-time mode and the static mode. Moreover, it is shown that the sensor system differentiates partially mismatched (single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP), half mismatch, noncomplementary) t-DNA, as well.         가스 절연 개폐장치(Gas Insulated Switchgear : GIS)의 고체 스페이서에 경사기능성 재료(Functionally Graded Material : FGM)를 적용할 때, 전계의 완화를 예상할 수 있다. 특히, 균일 유전율 분포를 가지는 스페이서에서 양극 근처에 집중된 높은 전계가 FGM 스페이서를 사용할 때, 스페이서와 SF? 가스의 접촉부로 옮겨지며, 그 크기가 완화됨을 확인할 수 있었다[1]. 본 연구에서는 상용 고체 스페이서의 양극 부근에서의 전계 집중을 감소시키기 위해 전극 형상의 최적화를 수행하였다. 최적화 기법으로는 완전계승계획법(Full Factorial Design : FFD)과 결합된 반응표면법(Response Surface Method : RSM)을 이용하였으며, 균일 유전율 스페이서에서 양극 형상을 최적화하였다. 또한 타원형 유전율 분포를 가지는 FGM 스페이서를 이용함으로써, 상용 GIS 모델에 비해 최대 전계가 크게 완화될 수 있음을 확인하였으며, 상용 GIS의 외함부의 크기를 줄여 실제 소형화 가능 여부를 확인하였다.

        The principle purpose of this study is to analyze closely the job satisfaction of the workers according to character of personality. For this purpose the research was sports for all leader's of 112male and female workers dwelling in Kyunggi and Inchun. The following is conclusion brought through these analyzing methods and process in this study. 1. According to the sex, analysis of job satisfaction has a significant difference of the job-achievement at the level of p<.05. But that the salary and reward satisfaction, personal relation satisfaction and job mentality of factors were not significant difference. 2. According to the age, analysis of job satisfaction has a significant difference of the job-mentality at the level of p<.05. But that the salary and reward satisfaction, personal relation satisfaction, and job achievement of factors were not significant difference. 3. According to the academic level, analysis of job satisfaction has a significant difference of the salary and reward satisfaction at the level of p<.05. But that the personal relation satisfaction, job achievement, and job mentality of factors were not significant difference. 4. According to the experience, analysis of job satisfaction showed not a significant difference in the salary and reward satisfaction, personal relation satisfaction, job achievement, and job mentality of factors 5. According to the qualification level, analysis of job satisfaction has a significant difference of the salary and reward satisfaction at the level of p<.05. But that the personal relation satisfaction, job achievement, and job mentality of factors were not significant difference.

      • Red Seabream Iridovirus (RSIV)의 가두리양식장내 감염동태

        본 연구는 양식장 환경수 및 사육중인 어체를 대상으로 2002년 5월부터 10월까지 주기적인 샘플링을 실시하여 양식 현장의 돔류에 발생되어지는 RSIV 감염증의 감염특성을 현장관찰, 사육일지의 관리 및 샘플어의 외부관찰, 해부관찰, 조직병리학적관찰, 해수 바이러스 검출, 바이러스배양 및 PCR검출법을 이용하여 확인하였다. 본 연구의 결과 폐사가 일어나기 이전인 봄철에 돌돔으로부터 체내 바이러스의 존재가 확인되었으나 연안해수에서는 검출되지 않았고 또한 어체 내바이러스의 존재가 확인됨에도 불구하고 양식어는 폐사되지 않았다. 그러나 수온 상승기인 8월초부터 폐사가 발생하였으며 폐사한 양식어의 경우 비장 및 신장조직 등 여려 장기에서 바이러스가 검출되었으며 특히 9월부터 10월 말까지 고수온이 장기간 유지 되어지는 조건에서 많은 폐사가 발생되어졌다.또한 참돔보다 돌돔이 RSIV에 감수성이 높은 것으로 나타났으며 RSIV의 연안수를 매개로한 수평적 감염으로 인하여 10월에는 돌돔뿐만 아니라 참돔에서도 감염을 확인할 수 있어서 수평적 감염의 심각성을 확인할 수 있었다. 이에 따라 양식 현장의 각 시기별 점검과 함께 연안수 중의 바이러스 보유점검을 주기적으로 시행한다면 질병의 확산에 대한 예측이 가능하리라 사료된다. Since 1998, Red seabream Iridovirus (RSIV) has been detected every year and has caused economic damages in net-cage cultured red seabream, Pagrus major and striped beakperch(Japanese parrotfish), Oplegnathus fasciatus (Temminck & Schlegel), in southern and western coastal areas of the Korean peninsula. This study was conducted to know epidemiological characteristics of the RSIV infection in net-cage farm. For the purpose, 116 red seabream and 89 striped beakperch were collected three fish farms in Namhae area during May to October in 2002. First diagnosis included field observations, gross and internal observations of fishes, Giemsa stain of the spleen and kidney stamp to identify enlarged cells which is a characteristic of the RSIV infection. In addition, virus culture by cell lines, histopathological studies and polymerase chain reaction (PCR) were conducted. In spring, RSIV was detected from the fish body but not in sea water. Although RSIV was exist in fish body no mortality was recorded. The mortality recorded from the August, and increased in September and October according with increasing of water temperature. During August and October, RSIV was detected not only dead fish but also sea water. Striped beakperch was more susceptible than red seabream against RSIV. RSIV could be transmitted via sea water and caused mortality in October to red seabream which is less susceptible to RSIV.

        A Novel Random Access for Fixed-Location Machine-to-Machine Communications in OFDMA Based Systems

        <P>Machine-to-machine (M2M) communications typically exhibit features such as a large number of devices, low data-rates, small-sized packets, and low or no mobility, while human-to-human (H2H) communications typically support a small number of users, high data-rates, large-sized packets, and high mobility. To support M2M communications in future cellular systems, one of the most challenging problems is to resolve a collision problem in random access because of access attempts from a large number of devices. For a large class of fixed-location M2M services such as smart metering and remote sensing, each machine device has fixed uplink timing alignment (TA) due to a fixed distance between the machine device and its eNodeB. We propose a novel random access scheme based on its fixed TA information for M2M communications at a large number of fixed-location machine devices in future orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA)-based cellular systems like Long Term Evolution (LTE) system. The proposed random access scheme yields significantly lower collision probability, shorter access delay, and higher energy-efficiency, compared with the conventional random access scheme.</P>
