SEL-RefineMask: A Seal Segmentation and Recognition Neural Network with SEL-FPN

        Ze-dong Dun,Jian-yu Chen,Mei-xia Qu,Bin Jiang 한국정보처리학회 2022 Journal of information processing systems Vol.18 No.3

Digging historical and cultural information from seals in ancient books is of great significance. However, ancient Chinese seal samples are scarce and carving methods are diverse, and traditional digital imageprocessing methods based on greyscale have difficulty achieving superior segmentation and recognitionperformance. Recently, some deep learning algorithms have been proposed to address this problem; however, current neural networks are difficult to train owing to the lack of datasets. To solve the afore-mentionedproblems, we proposed an SEL-RefineMask which combines selector of feature pyramid network (SEL-FPN)with RefineMask to segment and recognize seals. We designed an SEL-FPN to intelligently select a specificlayer which represents different scales in the FPN and reduces the number of anchor frames. We performedexperiments on some instance segmentation networks as the baseline method, and the top-1 segmentation result of 64.93% is 5.73% higher than that of humans. The top-1 result of the SEL-RefineMask network reached67.96% which surpassed the baseline results. After segmentation, a vision transformer was used to recognizethe segmentation output, and the accuracy reached 91%. Furthermore, a dataset of seals in ancient Chinesebooks (SACB) for segmentation and small seal font (SSF) for recognition were established which are publiclyavailable on the website.

Characteristics, Prognostic Factors, and Survival of Patients with NK/T-Cell Lymphoma of Non-upper Aerodigestive Tract: A 17-Year Single-Center Experience

        Ze-Long Liu,Xi-Wen Bi,Xue-Wen Zhang,De-Xin Lei,Pan-Pan Liu,Hang Yang,Yan Gao,Yuan-Xue Jiang,Wen-Qi Jiang,Yi Xia 대한암학회 2019 Cancer Research and Treatment Vol.51 No.4

Purpose The extranodal natural killer (NK)/T-cell lymphoma (NKTCL) of non-upper aerodigestive tract (NUAT) was found to have clinical heterogeneity compared with NKTCL of the upper aerodigestive tract (UAT) in small scale studies. We conducted this study in a much larger cohort to analyze the clinical characteristics, prognostic factors, treatment modality, and clinical outcomes of patients with NUAT-NKTCL. Materials and Methods From January 2001 to December 2017, a total of 757 NKTCL patients were identified and included in this study, including 92 NUAT-NKTCL patients (12.2%) and 665 UAT-NKTCL patients (87.8%). Results NUAT-NKTCL patients had relatively poorer performance status, more unfavorable prognostic factors, and more advanced stage, compared with UAT-NKTCL patients. The 5-year overall survival (OS) was 34.7% for NUAT-NKTCL, which was significantly worse than UAT-NKTCL (64.2%, p < 0.001). The median OS duration was 30.9 months for NUAT-NKTCL. Multivariate analysis showed that presence with B symptoms and elevated serum lactate dehydrogenase independently predicted worse OS. International prognostic index score and prognostic index of NK lymphoma score still had prognostic values in NUAT-NKTCL, while the Ann Arbor system could not accurately predict the OS. Conclusion NUAT-NKTCL is a distinctive subtype of NKTCL in many aspects. Patients with NUAT-NKTCL have relatively poorer performance status, more unfavorable prognostic factors, more advanced stage, and poorer prognosis.

Dietary inflammatory index and risk of gynecological cancers: a systematic review and meta-analysis of observational studies

        Ze-ying Liu,Xu-ping Gao,Sui Zhu,Yan-hua Liu,Li-jun Wang,Chun-xia Jing,Fang-fang Zeng 대한부인종양학회 2019 Journal of Gynecologic Oncology Vol.30 No.3

Objective: There has been growing body of literatures showing that chronic inflammation might play an important role in cancer development. This meta-analysis aimed to assess the association between the dietary inflammation index (DII) score and gynecological cancers. Methods: A systematic search of PubMed, EMBASE and Web of Science up until October 20, 2018 was carried out to retrieve all related cohort and case-control studies. The summary risk assessments were pooled using random-effects models. The dose-response relationship was estimated by linear relationship model. Results: Twelve case-control studies (10,774 cases/15,958 controls) and six prospective cohort studies (330,363 participants/23,133 incident cases) were included in this meta-analysis. The pooled adjusted relative risk (RR) of gynecological cancers for the highest DII category compared to the lowest category was 1.38, (95% confidence intervals [CIs], 1.21–1.56, p<0.001]. A positive dose-response relationship was also noticed. Stratified by study design indicated that, the pooled RRs was significantly higher for case-control studies than cohort studies (p for interaction<0.001), for studies conducted among participants with body mass index (BMI) ≥25 kg/m2 than participants with BMI <25 kg/m2 (p for interaction=0.026), among participants with ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer than participants with breast cancer (p for interaction = 0.038). Meta-regression analysis further confirmed that study design significantly contributed to inter-study heterogeneity (p<0.001). Conclusion: This meta-analysis suggests that elevated DII is independently associated with a higher risk of gynecological cancers, especially patients with ovarian cancer and endometrial cancer and among obese participants.

The impacts of Harmonia axyridis cues on foraging behavior of Aphidius gifuensis to Myzus persicae

        Xia Peng-Liang,Yu Xing-Lin,Li Ze-Tao,Feng Yi 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.1

This study investigated the effect of adult associated cues of the multicolored Asian ladybird Harmonia axyridis Pallas (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae) on the foraging behavior of the aphid parasitoid, Aphidius gifuensis Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Aphididae) with three assays: 1) whole aphid leaf-disc with H. axyridis tracks; 2) aphid leaf-disc with only half contaminated with H. axyridis tracks; 3) aphid leaf-discs without H. axyridis tracks. Foraging behavior of A. gifuensis was recorded using the Observer® XT 11 and EthoVsion® XT 12. In addition, functional responses of A. gifuensis in patches with or without H. axyridis cues were also tested. Aphidius gifuensis females preferred oviposition in arenas where no adult tracks of H. axyridis were present. However, no significant dif ference between functional responses of A. gifuensis foraging in plants with and without H. axyridis cues was detected. Our study suggests that H. axyridis associated cues could influence the foraging behavior and activity of A. gifuensis under laboratory conditions. On the other hand, the foraging efficiency of A. gifuensis was not significantly affected by H. axyridis walking tracks in a single plant system. Aphidius gifuensis might exhibit flexible behavioral responses to predator associated cues. The risk of intraguild interactions and the possibility of mitigating such risks for parasitoids are important components for ultimately determining the compatibility of biological control agents.

HEREDITARILY HYPERCYCLICITY AND SUPERCYCLICITY OF WEIGHTED SHIFTS

        Yu-Xia Liang,Ze-Hua Zhou 대한수학회 2014 대한수학회지 Vol.51 No.2

In this paper we first characterize the hereditarily hyper- cyclicity of the unilateral (or bilateral) weighted shifts on the spaces L² (N,K) (or L²(Z,K)) with weight sequence {An} of positive invert- ible diagonal operators on a separable complex Hilbert space K. Then we give the necessary and sufficient conditions for the supercyclicity of those weighted shifts, which extends some previous results of H. Salas. At last, we give some conditions for the supercyclicity of three different weighted shifts.

        Disjoint supercyclic weighted composition operators

        Yu-Xia Liang,Ze-Hua Zhou 대한수학회 2018 대한수학회보 Vol.55 No.4

In this paper, we discovered a sufficient condition ensuring the weighted composition operators $C_{w_1,\varphi_1},\ldots,C_{w_N,\varphi_N}$ were disjoint supercyclic on $H(\Omega)$ endowed with the compact open topology. Besides, we provided a condition on inducing symbols to guarantee the disjoint supercyclicity of non-constant adjoint multipliers $M_{\varphi_1}^*, M_{\varphi_2}^*,\ldots, M_{\varphi_N}^*$ on a Hilbert space $\mathcal{H}$.

THE RECURRENT HYPERCYCLICITY CRITERION FOR TRANSLATION C0-SEMIGROUPS ON COMPLEX SECTORS

        Yu-Xia Liang,Zhi-Yuan Xu,Ze-Hua Zhou 대한수학회 2023 대한수학회보 Vol.60 No.2

Let $\{T_t\}_{t\in \Delta}$ be the translation semigroup with a sector $\Delta\subset \mathbb{C}$ as index set. The recurrent hypercyclicity criterion (RHCC) for the $C_0$-semigroup $\{T_t\}_{t\in \Delta}$ is established, and then the equivalent conditions ensuring $\{T_t\}_{t\in \Delta}$ satisfying the RHCC on weighted spaces of $p$-integrable and of continuous functions are presented. Especially, every chaotic semigroup $\{T_t\}_{t\in \Delta}$ satisfies the RHCC.

Cloning, characterization, and RNAi effect of the chitin synthase B gene in Cnaphalocrocis medinalis

        Zhang Ze-Jie,Xia Lang,Du Juan,Li Shang-Wei,Zhao Feng 한국응용곤충학회 2021 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.24 No.1

The rice leaf folder (RLF), Cnaphalocrocis medinalis, is one of the major pests of rice, and chitin synthase is a key enzyme for the chitin synthesis pathway in insects. In this study, the chitin synthase B gene from C. medinalis (CmCHSB) was cloned and characterized. The cDNA of CmCHSB is 4824 bp in length, containing an open reading frame of 4578 nucleotides that encodes 1525 amino acids. The CmCHSB zymoprotein consists of 10 trans membrane domains (TMDs) in the N-terminus, a middle conserved catalytic domain, and 7 TMDs in the C-ter minus. Homology and phylogenetic analyses revealed that CmCHSB possesses the closest relationship with its homolog in Ostrinia furnacalis. CmCHSB was expressed throughout development and in all of the adult tissues tested, with the highest expression level in the adult and in the midgut. Silencing of CmCHSB through RNA interference (RNAi) severely affected RLF larval growth and caused larval lethality. Our results revealed that CmCHSB is essential for RLF growth and development, which sheds new light on the characteristics and functions of this gene. These findings will be helpful for green control of RLF, by targeting the CmCHSB gene using RNAi technology.
