      • Physical properties characterization of the Nakdong River valley sediments according to depositional units

        The core samples collected from the Nakdong River valley area were used to characterize physical properties in relation to depositional units. The physical property data were readily classified in good agreement with the depositional units: Units I, II, III, and IV in ascending order. In other words, the variations in the physical properties reflected well the relative characteristics of the depositional units. Overall, Unit I was characterized by high values of physical properties such as compressional wave velocity (1683 m/s on average), wet bulk density (2.17 g/cm³ on average), and shear strength (41.2 kPa on average), whereas the porosity of Unit I was the lowest (approximately 35%). Moreover, the physical properties other than grain density reflected well the characteristics of each unit, characterized by gradual change from Unit I to Unit IV. Nevertheless, based on the physical property data, the lithology, rather than compaction with burial depth, likely played an important role in the variation of physical properties of each unit. These results suggest that the physical properties were mainly controlled by depositional processes at the time of deposition. The velocity anisotropies were mostly negative without a significant effect of compaction with burial depth. Nevertheless, the cracks occurring along bedding planes after coring were responsible for low horizontal velocities and negative anisotropies.

Full text search requires language specific analyzers and a mapping appropriate to index multi-language text. This paper investigates 3 approaches to index multi-language text and identifies the advantages of the multi-index approach.

        Investigation on the Growth of Green Bean Sprouts with Linear Discriminant Analysis

        Machine vision technique is playing an increasingly important role in monitoring plant growth. The identification of good or bad status of growing plant requires specific features such as color, length, and solidity of stems. This paper addresses recognition of growing status of the green bean sprout. For preprocessing, RGB color images are converted to hue-saturationintensity (HSI) images, and then, principal component analysis (PCA) is applied to reduce the high dimensionality of image data. Finally, linear discriminant analysis (LDA) recognizes whether the growing status is good or bad. In the experiments, the images of the green bean sprouts growing in jars are acquired for 6 consecutive days. The correct classification rates are compared between PCA only process and LDA combined with PCA. The experimental results show PCA+LDA can achieve more than 93.3% average accuracy after 3 days.

      • Increased Risk of Herpes Zoster Infection in Patients With Inflammatory Bowel Diseases in Korea

        <P><B>Background & Aims</B></P> <P>Few data are available on risk of herpes zoster (HZ) infection in Asian patients with inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD). We investigated whether patients with IBD in Korea have an increased risk of HZ and sought to identify risk factors for infection.</P> <P><B>Methods</B></P> <P>We performed a nationwide population-based study and a hospital-based, nested case–control study. Using the 2009–2013 data from the Korean national health insurance claims database, we calculated incidence rates and standardized incidence ratios (SIRs) of HZ infection in patients with IBD compared with the entire Korean population. In the nested case–control study, within a hospital-based cohort, 300 patients with IBD and HZ infection were matched with 895 patients with IBD without HZ.</P> <P><B>Results</B></P> <P>In the nationwide population-based study, the incidence rate and SIR of HZ infection in patients with IBD were 18.34/1000 person-years and 1.48 (95% CI, 1.42–1.54), respectively. The SIR for HZ infection was higher in patients with Crohn’s disease than in patients with ulcerative colitis (1.90 vs 1.36; <I>P</I> < .001) and higher in male patients than female patients (1.63 vs 1.33; <I>P</I> < .001). The incidence rate of HZ increased with age (<I>P</I> trend < .001), whereas the SIR of HZ infection decreased with age (<I>P</I> trend < .001). In the nested case–control study, corticosteroid use was associated with HZ infection (for ulcerative colitis, adjusted odds ratio, 2.44; 95% CI, 1.18–5.05 and for Crohn’s disease, adjusted odds ratio, 2.70; 95% CI 1.25–5.83).</P> <P><B>Conclusions</B></P> <P>In a population-based study in Korea, we found patients with IBD to have an increased risk for HZ infection—especially among patients who are male, younger, or have Crohn’s disease. Corticosteroid use increases risk of HZ infection in patients with IBD.</P>

        Using the hot stamping process, for manufacturing of the vehicle body parts is essential to optimization process of design variable and stamping process planning selection of the tools. In this paper, in order to develop the center pillar of light weight and high strength rather than existing vehicle body parts carried out thermo-mechanical coupled analysis and obtained the high temperature material properties. And form-type process is applied to overcome the limit of draw-type process in hot stamping, also side integrated die is applied to control the wrinkle and fracture which can occur in form-type process. Shape variable of side integrated die is selected, and shape of side integrated die which has optimal formability and minimum defects is presented by thermo-mechanical coupled analysis. Presented conclusion stated above verified validity of design condition presented by FEM.

        Evaluation of Immune Response for Vi-$CRM_{197}$ Conjugated Vaccine against Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi in Mice

        Typhoid fever, a serious systemic infection caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi, breaks out in developing countries. However, existing vaccines only induce relatively low protective effects with humoral responses and do not stimulate secondary immune response, especially to young people. The objective of this study is to evaluate the immunogenicity of the vaccine containing virulence capsular polysaccharide (Vi) conjugated with the optimal ratios of non-toxic variant of diphtheria toxin ($CRM_{197}$) in mice. Six-week-old BALB/c female mice were injected intraperitoneally three times at intervals of 14 days and sera were collected on days 0, 14, 28, 42 and 56 post-injection. The efficacy of the vaccine was evaluated by comparing between negative control group injected with PBS and vaccine groups injected with Vi or Vi-$CRM_{197}$ conjugate of different ratio. Vi and $CRM_{197}$-specific antibody responses were evaluated using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The result showed that Vi-$CRM_{197}$-1 group revealed the highest and significant Vi-specific IgG immune responses among the other groups and Vi group (p < 0.01). In conclusion, Vi-$CRM_{197}$-1 conjugate vaccine induced the highest humoral immune response in mice and may be used as an effective vaccine to replace the existing typhoid vaccine for infants under 2 years old.

      • 과학기술 출연연구기관의 데이터 경제시대 대비를 위한 데이터 자본 개념 연구

        데이터는 현재 화두가 되고 있는 4차 산업혁명 논의의 핵심적인 요소로 그 의미와 가치가 재평가되고 있다. 주요 선도국가에서는 데이터 경제 구현을 위한 국가적 차원의 거대한 논의가 진행되고 있다. 본 연구는 국내에서는 최초로 경쟁우위의 자본적 성격을 보유한 데이터에 대한 개념을 제시하였을 뿐만 아니라 데이터 자본을 통한 가치연구에 필요한 개념적 모델을 제시하였다. 이를 통해 과학기술 출연연구기관이 변화하는 데이터 경제시대에 대비하여 그에 맞는 R&D전략을 마련하고 관련 연구와 과학기술정책을 추진하는데 있어 데이터가 가지는 사회·경제적 의미를 명확히 인식하는 계기를 마련하고자 한다. 우선, 데이터 자본의 거래 활성화를 위해서는 정책입안자들이 단순히 데이터를 통한 가치창출, 즉 어떤 기회의 포착이라는 측면만을 고려할 것이 아니라 위험요소를 고려하는 관점을 병행할 필요가 있다. 균형적인 시각과 체계적인 모델 제시로 사회 전체적으로 구성원들의 신뢰를 바탕으로 사회적 수용을 이끌어 낼 수 있어야 할 것이다. 둘째, 본 연구에서 데이터 자본은 기회, 기대, 동기부여, 능력과 같은 원천을 통해 보다 높은 가치를 창출하는 구조적 체계를 가진다고 제시하였다. 이와 같은 주요 요소는 데이터 자본의 구조에 대한 보다 나은 이해를 형성하게 하며 각각의 역할을 명확하게 할 수 있다. 이를 통해 데이터 관련 시장제도 구축을 위한 정책연구 등의 결과물을 보다 명확하게 제시할 수 있을 것으로 판단된다. 마지막으로 데이터 자본의 궁극적 가치는 다양한 조건 요인들에 의해 결정된다는 점이다. 최근 논의되고 있는 다양한 정책들은 데이터를 통해 도출될 수 있는 긍정적인 부분만을 강조하고 있다. 그러나 데이터의 가치는 데이터가 속한 분야와 특정 상황에서 발생하는 혜택과 위험에 따라 상당한 차이가 발생할 수 있다. 만약 커다란 위험을 초래할 수 있는 분야와 특정 상황의 연구를 통해 이를 사전적으로 파악할 수 있다면, 정책적 효율성을 더욱 높일 수 있을 것이다. The data is a key element of the fourth industrial revolution, which has become a hot topic, and its meaning and value are being reassessed. In the leading countries, there is a great deal of national debate about the implementation of the data economy. In this paper, we present not only the concept of data that has the capitalistic character of competitive advantage for the first time in Korea, but also the conceptual model necessary for the study of value through data capital. First, in order to activate the transaction of data capital, policy makers need to consider the risk factors, not merely considering the creation of value through data, that is, capturing an opportunity. It should be able to draw social acceptance based on the trust of the members as a whole through the balanced vision and systematic model presentation. Second, in this study, data capital has a structural system that creates higher value through sources such as opportunity, expectation, motivation, and ability. These key elements can form a better understanding of the structure of data capital and can clarify the role of each. This suggests that the results of the policy research for establishing the data related market system can be more clearly presented. Finally, the ultimate value of data capital is determined by various condition factors. The various policies currently under discussion emphasize only the positive aspects that can be derived from data. However, the value of the data can vary considerably depending on the area in which the data is located and the benefits and risks that arise in certain situations. If we can identify these through a study of specific areas and situations that could pose a major risk, we will be able to increase policy efficiency.
