      • Effect of H<sub>2</sub>O on the Morphological Changes of KNO<sub>3</sub> Formed on K<sub>2</sub>O/Al<sub>2</sub>O<sub>3</sub> NO<sub><i>x</i></sub> Storage Materials: Fourier Transform Infrared and Time-Resolved X-ray Diffraction Studies

        <P>Based on the combined FTIR and XRD studies, we report here that H<SUB>2</SUB>O induces a morphological change of KNO<SUB>3</SUB> species formed on model K<SUB>2</SUB>O/Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> NOx storage-reduction catalysts. Specifically as evidenced by FTIR, the contact of H<SUB>2</SUB>O with NO<SUB>2</SUB> preadsorbed on K<SUB>2</SUB>O/Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> promotes the transformation from bidentate (surface-like) KNO<SUB>3</SUB> species to ionic (bulk-like) ones irrespective of K loadings. Once H<SUB>2</SUB>O is removed from the sample, a reversible transformation into bidentate KNO<SUB>3</SUB> is observed, demonstrating a significant dependence of H<SUB>2</SUB>O on such morphological change. TR-XRD results show the formation of two different types of bulk KNO<SUB>3</SUB> phases (orthorhomobic and rhombohedral) in an as-impregnated sample. Once H<SUB>2</SUB>O begins to desorb above 400 K, the former is transformed into the latter, resulting in the existence of rhombohedral KNO<SUB>3</SUB> phase only. On the basis of consistent FTIR and TR-XRD results, we propose a model for the morphological changes of KNO<SUB>3</SUB> species with respect to NO<SUB>2</SUB> adsorption/desorption, H<SUB>2</SUB>O and/or heat treatments. Compared with the BaO/Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> system, K<SUB>2</SUB>O/Al<SUB>2</SUB>O<SUB>3</SUB> shows some similarities with respect to the formation of bulk nitrates upon H<SUB>2</SUB>O contact.         비정형 향정신병약물을 투여 중인 정신분열병 환자의 주관적 삶의 질 : 정신병리, 약물 부작용 및 약물에 대한 주관적 반응과의 관련성

        Objectives : The purpose of this study was to evaluate the characteristics of psychopathology, adverse drug effects, and Subjective response to drugs that have a significant impact on the subjective quality of life in schizophrenic patients receiving atypical antipsychotics. Methods : One hundred and one schizophrenic patients, who were receiving maintenance treatment with atypical antipsychotics, were evaluated. Subjective quality of life was assessed using the standardized Korean modification of a self-rating scale to measure subjective well-being under neuroleptics (KmSWN). Patients' psychopathology was evaluated using the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale. Adverse effects and subjective response to drug were evaluated using the Liverpool University Neuroleptic Side Effect Rating Scale and the Drug Attitude Inventory-10, respectively. Correlation analysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis were conducted. Results : In psychopathology, the severity of depression and anxiety showed the most significant correlation with the score ofKmSWN. In adverse drug effects, the severity of psychic side effect and extrapyramidal side effect showed the most significant correlation with the score ofKmSWN. Regarding subjective response to drug, significant correlation was observed between the severity of subjective negative response and the score of KmSWN. Stepwise multiple regression analysis revealed that psychic side effect, extrapyramidal side effect, and depression contributed significantly to the total score of KmSWN. These variables accounted for 59.7% of the total variance. Conclusion : The results of the present study suggest that psychic side effect, extrapyramidal side effect and depressive symptom are the clinical characteristics that are significantly associated with the subjective quality of life. An effective management strategy for these variables should be established in developing a treatment program to enhance the quality of life of patients with schizophrenia.

        Effect of Physical and Chemical Treatments on Chitosan Viscosity

        물리적, 화학적 처리가 키토산의 점도에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 키토산의 점도는 물리적(분쇄, 가열, 고온가압,초음파) 그리고 화학적(오존) 처리에 의해 크게 영향을 받았으며, 처리 시간과 온도가 증가함에 따라 감소하였다. 그러나 키토산 용액을 -40℃ 에서 9일간 저장하였을 때 점도 변화는 나타나지 않았다. 키토산 용액을 4℃와 23℃에서 61일간 저장하였을 때 점도는 각각 23%와 64% 감소하였다. Effects of physical and chemical treatments on chitosan viscosity were investigated. Chitosan viscosity was considerably affected by physical (grinding, heating, autoclaving, ultrasonication) and chemical (ozone) treatments, except for freezing, and decreased with an increase in treatment time and temperature. Freezing at -40℃ for 9 days did not affect the viscosity of chitosan solution. The chitosan solution stored at 4 and 23℃ for 61 days decreased in viscosity by 23 and 64%, respectively. This suggests that chitosan solution stored at 4t is relatively stable from a viscosity point of view.

        Immune complexes were isolated from ascitic fluid of patients with ovarian carcinoma by using protein-A Sepharose CL-4B affinity chromatography, and antigen-antibody complexes then dissociated by ion exchange chromatography in the presence of 8M urea. Only one antigen fraction was obtained by the ion exchange chromatography, but three antigenic bands were demonstrated by SDS-PAGE. The molecular weights of the three protein bands were 70, 41, and 38 kDa, respectively. Of the three proteins the 38 kDa band has already been known, but 70 and 41 kDa bands seems to represent new ovarian tumorassociated antigens. This study may suggest the involvement of multiple antigens in ovarial tumor which can be included in producing tumor-directed monoclonal antibodies

        Postoperative changes in the pharyngeal airway space through computed tomography evaluation after mandibular setback surgery in skeletal class III patients: 1-year follow-up

        Background: This study evaluated the pharyngeal airway space changes up to 1 year after bilateral sagittal splitosteotomy mandibular setback surgery and bimaxillary surgery with maxillary posterior impaction through threedimensional computed tomography analysis. Methods: A total of 37 patients diagnosed with skeletal class III malocclusion underwent bilateral sagittal splitosteotomy setback surgery only (group 1, n = 23) or bimaxillary surgery with posterior impaction (group 2, n = 14). Cone-beam computed tomography scans were taken before surgery (T0), 2 months after surgery (T1), 6 monthsafter surgery (T2), and 1 year after surgery (T3). The nasopharynx (Nph), oropharynx (Oph), hypopharynx (Hph)volume, and anteroposterior distance were measured through the InVivo Dental Application version 5. Results: In group 1, Oph AP, Oph volume, Hph volume, and whole pharynx volume were significantly decreasedafter the surgery (T1) and maintained. In group 2, Oph volume and whole pharynx volume were decreased (T2) andrelapsed at 1 year postoperatively (T3). Conclusion: In class III malocclusion patients, mandibular setback surgery only showed a greater reduction inpharyngeal airway than bimaxillary surgery at 1 year postoperatively, and bimaxillary surgery was more stable interms of airway. Therefore, it is important to evaluate the airway before surgery and include it in the surgical plan.

        The purpose of this study was to evaluate the quality of the art education programs for teachers and also to create an awareness and understanding of what is essential in the organization and administration of art teacher education program quality in universities. In order to establish values and directions for objectives, content, metholology, and evaluation, which would apply to the theoretical framework for teacher education in art, the theoretical concepts of art education professionals were described and identified as those which have contributed to art education theories. It is hoped tha tthis descriptiv work will provide a basis for instigating new program development in art education requirements of teacher training programs met or exceeded the criteria presented in the National Art Education Association's Standards for Art Teacher Preparation Programs in most cases for studio and advanced work components. However, it was found that the requirements in teh appreciation component did not meet the standard in a large percentage of cases. Although supplemental art courses were available to the art education majors in a small percentage of cases, the content of art education courses was still found to be lacking in certain areas. In this paper, art is conceived of as a unique and valued field of human endeavor provided by no othe rrealm of human nuderstanding. Therefore, professional training through which one acquires the skills and concepts undergird the creation of art. As long as art is concerned, the structure of the discipline or advance-organizers would reveal to the learner the appropriate directions for his inquiry. That is to say, the art teacher will have to structure the learning experience so that the character of art discipline is revealed.

        Polymer micro and nanocomposites: Structure, interactions, properties

        The characteristics of all heterogeneous polymer systems including composites containing either micro or nanofillers are determined by four factors: component properties, composition, structure and interfacial interactions. The most important filler characteristics are particle size, size distribution, specific surface area and particle shape, while the main matrix property is stiffness. Segregation, aggregation and the orientation of anisotropic particles determine structure. Interfacial interactions lead to the formation of a stiff interphase considerably influencing properties. Interactions are changed by surface modification, which must be always system specific and selected according to its goal. Under the effect of external load inhomogeneous stress distribution develops around heterogeneities, which initiate local micromechanical deformation processes determining the macroscopic properties of the composites. In filled polymers the dominating deformation mechanism is usually debonding. Nanocomposites represent one of the new classes of materials, but further research and development is needed before they gain significant position in the market.
