Energy-Environmental Efficiency in Chinese Regions Based on Three-Stage DEA

This article employs the three-stage DEA model to comprehensively analyze the mix efficiency (considering economic development, energy consumption and exhaust emissions) and the energy-environmental efficiency (only considering energy consumption and exhaust emissions) of the 29 Chinese provinces from 2003 to 2012. The findings showed that entire means of mix and energy-environmental efficiencies are located at a very low level, and mix efficiency is underestimated and energy-environmental efficiency is overestimated in the first stage because of the influence of external factors on efficiency. Moreover, the results also reflect that external factors and statistical noise have a larger impact on the mix efficiency of the western region, while having a greater effect on the EE efficiency of the eastern region. In addition, decomposition results of the mix inefficiency indicated that reducing the amount of exhaust emissions is more beneficial for improving mix efficiency than promoting energy utilization performance.
First-principles study of LiBaF3 crystals containing interstitial fluoride

The positions of the interstitial fluoride atoms in LiBaF3 crystal are simulated by GULP. It is found that the formation energy is low when interstitial fluoride atoms at the center of the edge of the cube formed by Ba ions. The electronic structures and absorption bands for the perfect LiBaF3 crystal and the LiBaF3 crystal containing interstitial fluoride have been calculated using density functional theory code CASTEP. It is predicted that the interstitial fluoride atom combine with a formal lattice fluoride ion forming H center causes the 320 nm absorption band.
Researches of Topologies and Dynamics of Molecular Agglomeration Network based on Complex Network

With appearance of small-world networks and scale-free networks, complex networks have provided natural theories to describe a variety of complex systems in many domains of science. In this paper, from the standpoint of Raman spectrum research aspect in material science, Raman spectrum analysis of graphite and diamond microcrystal retained by gallium phosphide nanoparticles is introduced. We found that molecular configuration of basic fuchsin adsorbed on gallium phosphide nanoparticles through experiments. Based on these, we adopt corresponding method of complex network to research some problems in Raman spectrum analysis and directly use complex network to convert real agglomerations into network model. With the intention of studying the topologies of agglomeration network, synchronizability behavior of agglomeration network are also discussed.
Measurement of environment efficiency in China and its determinant based on two-stage DEA

This paper employs two-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) to analyze environment efficiency in China and to measure effect factors on environment efficiency. The study includes 30 provinces during the period of 1998-2007. Moreover, there are two inputs, including GDP and mix pollution, and two inputs, consisting of labor and capital stock. The results show that the entire environment efficiency in China lies in the lower level and difference between each province is great as well. Furthermore, GDP per capital, industrial structure and degree of trade openness have a significant impact on environment efficiency.

A total of 106 two month-old Nanjiang yellow goats (male were 32, female were 34 and castrated were 40) were divided into treatment group and control group to determine the growth performance. The treatment group was reared in grazing mode, experimental group was pastured with supplement feeding. The results showed that the body weight of male in experiment group was heavier by 9.82%(P<0.05), 11.87%(P<0.01), 16.91%(P<0.01) and 23.99%(P<0.05) than that in control group in 3,4,5 and 6 month-age. The body weight of female in experimental group was heavier by 11.54%(P<0.05), 13.79%(P<0.01), 17.47%(P<0.01) and 21.15%(P<0.01) than that in control group in 3,4,5 and 6 month-old. The body weight of castrator in experimental group was heavier by 1.58%, 1.99%, 13.08%(P<0.01) and 15.76%(P<0.01) than that in control group in 3,4,5 and 6 month-age. The daily increasing weight and body measurements of experimental group is improved more than control group, especially in 6 month-age.

Recently, because of the similarity of the genome with human, Caenorhabditis elegans is being a popular model organism for biological research, in particular the study of human diseases. Thermotaxis which can be found in C.elegans is a property of an animal to remain within a defined temperature. In C.elegans, defined temperature is the cultivation temperature. Animals tend to track and stay within a temperature that is most close to their cultivation temperature. In this study, we developed a microfluidic system which can be used for behavior analysis on defined temperature gradient. We used three strains(wild-type, tax-4, ttx-7) to compare their thermotaxis using this system. The developed model of our work can be used for analyzing C.elegans to complex stimuli.

In our previous studies, we demonstrated that Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF) enhances bovine oocyte maturation and early embryonic development in serum supplemented media. In this experiment, to determine the synergistic effect of VEGF with serum components on early embryonic development in vitro in cattle, 1 mg/ml polyvinyl-alcohol (PVA) was replaced with foetal bovine serum (FBS) in maturation and culture media. Bovine oocytes were matured in Synthetic Oviduct Fluid (SOF) supplemented with PVA, PVA+5 ng/ml of VEGF, FBS, or FBS+VEGF. Fertilized oocytes were cultured in the same conditions for 8 days. The development of embryos was examined at 48 h post- insemination and on days 6, 7 and 8. The results were analyzed using repeated measures two- factor ANOVA, in which the effects of VEGF and serum were assigned as two factors. The development rate to 4- to 8-cell embryos at 48 h was significantly higher in the PVA+VEGF group than in the PVA group (44.7% and 31.5%, respectively). However, the highest development rate to 4- to 8-cell embryos was obtained from the FBS+VEGF group (58.8%). On day 8, the blastocyst rates were higher in the PVA+VEGF (22.8%), FBS (32.1%, p<0.05) and FBS+VEGF (42.1%, p<0.05) groups than in the PVA group (17.1%). Two- factor ANOVA of the development rates indicates that VEGF had a significant effect, but had no synergistic effect with serum components on early embryonic development. The results of the present study demonstrate that VEGF improves the in vitro developmental competence of bovine oocytes and/or embryos independent of the effect of serum components.

Purpose: Asthma is a common chronic inflammatory respiratory tract disease with high morbidity and mortality. The global trends in asthma burden remain poorly understood, and asthma incidence has increased during the worldwide coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. This study aimed to provide a comprehensive view of the global distribution of asthma burden and its attributable risk factors from 1990 to 2019. Methods: Based on the Global Burden of Disease Study 2019 Database, asthma incidence, deaths, disability-adjusted life years (DALYs), the corresponding age-standardized incidence rate (ASIR), age-standardized death rate (ASDR), age-standardized DALY rate, and estimated annual percentage change were analyzed according to age, sex, sociodemographic index (SDI) quintiles, and locations. Risk factors contributing to asthma deaths and DALYs were also investigated. Results: Globally, the asthma incidence increased by 15%, but deaths and DALYs decreased. The corresponding ASIR, ASDR, and age-standardized DALY rate also decreased. The high SDI region had the highest ASIR, and the low SDI region had the highest ASDR. The ASDR and age-standardized DALY rate were negatively correlated with the SDI. The low-middle SDI region, particularly South Asia, showed the highest asthma-related deaths and DALYs. The incidence peak was under 9 years old, and more than 70% of all deaths occurred in the population over 60 years old. Smoking, occupational asthmagens, and a high body mass index were the main risk factors for asthma-related mortality and DALYs, and their distributions varied between sexes. Conclusions: Globally, the asthma incidence has increased since 1990. The greatest asthma burden is borne by the low-middle SDI region. The 2 groups that need special attention are those under 9 years old and those over 60 years old. Targeted strategies are needed to reduce the asthma burden based on geographic and sex-age characteristics. Our findings also provide a platform for further investigation into the asthma burden in the era of COVID-19.
