This paper presents a study on the failure characteristics of SnAgCu lead-free solder balls. To estimate the effect of Ag, three types of SnAgCu balls are first prepared by varying the weight percent of Ag (1.0, 3.0, 4.0 wt%) and then analyzed by reliability tests such as thermal shock, high speed ball shear, and drop tests. Thermal shock test reveals that the higher the weight percent of Ag is, the longer the fatigue life becomes. To the contrary, high speed ball-shear test and drop test show that the shear strength and the fracture toughness of solder balls are inversely proportional to the weight percent of Ag, respectively. Reasons for these observations will be further investigated in the future work.
Bochner 방법을 응용한 Shigella의 약제내성 제거

To study the optimal curing condition on selective medium described by Bochner et al. and modified medium, six strains of S. flexneri and 2 strains of S. sonnei were tested for minimum inhibitory concentration(MIC) of quinaldic acid and cured resistance pattern. Also, changing patterns of elimination according to incubation temperature were investigated at 37℃ and 42℃. MICs of Shigella on original Bochner medium and modified medium were 50 5o 400㎍/㎖. But MICs of Shigella were above of 400㎍/㎖ on the Bochner's medium excluding tetracycline and sodium phosphate. There were no differences in MIC between at 37℃ and 42℃. On the Bochner's medium, losses of drug resistance were more effective than other medium and cured resistance pattern was partial or total of original resistance, regardless of incubation temperature. Frequencies of curing were low on modified Bochner's medium, but most of cured resistance pattern were total resistance of Shigella. Frequencies of curing at 42℃ were similar to 37℃, but some strains showed resistance loss only at 42℃. MICs of 8 strains of Shigella were above of 400㎍/㎖ and no strains detected resistance loss on the both tryptic soy agar and tryptic soy broth.

In general, circuit board assemblies experience various mechanical loadings during assembly and in actual use. The repeated cyclic bending can cause electrical failures due to circuit board cracks, solder interconnects cracks, and the component cracks. In this paper, we report on the failure characteristics of board level flip chips under the repeated cyclic bending. We first describe a new 4-point bending tester, which is developed according to JEDEC standard No.. 22B113. The performance of the tester is then estimated through actual experiments . Test results reveal that the cracks first occur on the outer balls around 20,000 cycles and gradually propagate to the inner balls where cracks are found around 70,000 cycles.

In order to develop a high brightness ion source using plasma, the ion beam extraction system with an aperture of 100μm in diameter has been designed and constructed. It is observed that over 500nA of He ion beam current can be extracted. With such an optimized condition, ~10³ A/cm²sr beam brightness can be measured by emittance scanner, which is believed to be a promising result for developing next generation FIB.
S-364 : Carotid plaque and progression of renal dysfunction in patients with chronic kidney disease

Background: Carotid plaque is a surrogate marker of systemic atherosclerosis and closely associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes. However, data regarding the predictive role of carotid plaque for renal progression are limited in chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients. Methods: This is a longitudinal observational study with a cohort of 411 Stage 3 and 4 CKD patients. A carotid plaque was defined as a focal structure encroaching into the arterial lumen of at least 0.5 mm or 50% of the surrounding carotid intima-media thickness (cIMT). Renal function decline was measured by estimated glomerular filtration (eGFR) slope and the renal endpoint was defined as the start of dialysis. Results: Baseline eGFR was 44.5±11.6 mL/min/1.73m2 and eGFR slope was -2.87±3.76 min/1.73m2/yr. A carotid plaque was found in 282 (68.6%) patients, and these patients had significantly faster rates of renal function decline than those without plaque (-3.64±3.84 vs. -1.20±2.85 mL/min/1.73m2/yr, p<0.001). According to multivariate analysis, statistically significant variables determining eGFR slope were diabetes (β=-0.77, p=0.033), increased pulse pressure (β=-0.02, p=0.015), elevated proteinuria (β=-0.50, p<0.001), increased cIMT (β=-4.36, p<0.001) and the presence of a carotid plaque (β=-1.48, p<0.001). Particularly, irregular plaque surface significantly associated with rapid decline of renal function. During the 2.5-year follow-up, 47 (11.4%) of patients started dialysis. Patients with carotid plaque had a poorer dialysis-free survival rate than those without carotid plaque (hazard ratio 3.3: 95% confidence interval 1.01, 10.77). Conclusions: Carotid plaque was closely associated with rapid decline of renal function and progression to dialysis in stage 3 and 4 CKD patients. survival.

Prognostic Significance of HER2 Gene Amplification According to Stage of Breast Cancer

It is well known that the amplification of the HER2 gene is closely associated with poor prognosis of breast cancer. However, there is controversy about the clinical significance of HER2 according to lymph node status in breast cancer. The aim of this study was to identify the differences in the prognostic significance of HER2 gene amplification according to the stages of breast cancer. We prepared a tissue array for fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) with breast cancer specimens from the surgery in 1994 to 1999. Total 338 cases of breast cancer were enrolled and the median follow-up period was 6.3 yr. The detection rates of HER2 gene amplification were as follows: 10.3% in stage I, 22.3% in stage II, and 43.8% in stage III. On survival analyses HER2-positive groups showed worse prognosis in stage III of breast cancer, but not in stage I or II. Multivariate analyses with a Cox-regression model also revealed that HER2 amplification was an independent prognostic factor only in stage III breast cancer. Regarding HER2 gene amplification as a prognostic factor of breast cancer, the clinical significance of the gene was found to be confined to advanced breast cancer.

Creep behaviors of the Zr-1.1Nb-0.05Cu (HANA-6) alloy strips with different orientations were investigated. Anisotropy was observed in the samples depending on their physical orientations due to the formation of texture in their microstructures. The creep strain rate was increased as the test stress and temperature increased. The rate was higher along the rolling-direction than in the transverse-direction irrespective of annealing conditions. However, the samples with 45˚ direction showed different behaviors depending on the annealing temperature. When strips were finally annealed at 600℃ for 10 min, the primary creep rate of the 45˚ strip was the highest among the various orientations although the saturated creep rate was the lowest. In the case of final annealing at 660℃ for 4 h, the highest creep rate occurred throughout the creep test in the 45˚ strip. It is considered that the fraction of (100) planes along the direction of creep deformation affect the creep rates.
