      • Streptomyces diastatochromogenes로부터 분리된 SdiⅠ의 특성에 관한 연구

        토양분리 방선균 Streptomyces diastatochromogenes로부터 분리된 제한효소 SdiI은 넓은 범위의 pH(7.0~1.5)와 온도(-60℃)에서 활성을 보였으며, 고농도(-500mM) NaCI이 있어도 작용하였다. 또한, 20~60℃ 온도에서 안정하며, 활성을 갖기 위해서는 MgCI_2를 필요로 하였다. Lambda DNA에 대한 지도 작성으로부터 XhoI의 isoschizomer로 추정되었으며, DNA 염기서열 분석 결과, 인식, 절단 서열은 다음과 같이 결정되었다. In catalytic propeties of the restriction endonuclease. SdiI, which was purified from Streptomyces diastatochromogenes, this enzyme was active at wide range between pH 7.0 and 12.5, and up to 60℃ and 500mM of NaCl concentration. It was stable between 20℃ and 60℃, and essentially requires MgCl_2 for endonuclease activity. The restriction map of lambda DNA which was obtained by double digestion with various enzymes suggested SdiI to be an isoschizomer of XhoI. From the determination of restriction site based on DNA sequencing method, recognition and cleavage specificity of SdiI was concluded as:

        모유영양아와 인공영양아의 피하지방 및 상완위의 성장발육 상태 : 영아의 피하지방 및 상완위 발육상태

        One- to three- month-old infants (n=232) were compared their upper arm cumference and skinfold thickness(triceps, subscapular) by feeding methods in cross-sectional study. There were two groups : breast-fed(BF) and formula-fed groups(FF). As reported previously^(7)), weight, length, head and chest circumferences of these infants were good, and overall growth status was not significantly different by feeding methods, but weight, weight velocity and chest circumference of formula-fed infants were higher than breast-feds at 3 month, significantly. Here, the triceps skinfold thickness of infants at 1, 2, and 3 postpartum months were 7.4, 9.5 and 10.5 ㎜, respectively. The triceps skinfold thickness of breast-fed infants were higher than formula-feds at 1 and 2 postpartum month, but at 3 month, that of formula-fed infants was greater than breast-fed infants, insignificantly. The subscapular skinfold thickness of infants were 6.4, 9.2 and 10.6 ㎜ at 1 to 3 postpartum months, respectively. The upper arm circumference of infants were 11.7, 13.4, 14.3㎝, and the arm muscle diameter were 34.5, 39.3 and 41.7㎝ at one to three postpartum months, respectively. The upper arm circumference of male infants was higher than females at 2, 3 postpartum months. Overall, there were no significant differences between feeding methods in triceps and subscapular skinfold thickness, upper arm circumference and arm muscle diameter. But 3-month-old formula-fed male infants showed bigger significantly in arm circumference than the breast-feds. From this survey, long-term survey on growth and body composition of large scales might be necessary to determine the effect of feeding methods of infants after 3 months and to set proper body composition standard for infant.

      • 중ㆍ고등학생들의 수학교과 호오도(好惡度)의 변화에 대한 분석

        In this paper we investigate and analyze the variation of secondary school student's like and dislike the school mathematics lesson. First, we investigate the reason that why students dislike mathematics in the class and we search the point of time when the students dislike mathematics in the class. Next, we investigate and analyze the variation of student's inclination to the school mathematics lesson. In this research we try the followings. 1) We analyze the variation of each level school, student's inclination to the school mathematics class, 2) We analyze the variation of student's inclination to the mathematics for each place where the school located. 3) We analyze and compare between the inclination to the mathematics lesson and to each level school. 4) We analyze and compare between the inclination to the mathematics lesson and to each factors of student's inclination From these investigation and analysis, we have the following conclusion . (1) The student's inclination to the mathematics is depend on the teacher's teaching method and on the fact that how can the mathematics lesson be composed easily. (2) The student's response was seen in the same type from the inquiry about the inclination to the mathematics lesson in the school of Seoul and small country town. This is a passing phase caused by the educational environment in Seoul and the small country town's schools is better than that of the big city or medium city. (3) The student group of the human knowledge in the general high school show the negative response for the inclination to the matheirlatics lessen compare to that of the student group of natural science in the general high school. (4) In the middle school, about half of the students dislike mathematics But such dislike rate of mathematics increased in the high school. (5) Teachers must take into consideration to the student in the first grade high school mathematics course To do this, teachers make adapt the curriculum easily for the student and must teach the mathematics to the students who can take interest in the mathematics.

        The association between measurement sites of visceral adipose tissue and cardiovascular risk factors after caloric restriction in obese Korean women

        Quantities as well as distributions of adipose tissue (AT) are significantly related to cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and can be altered with caloric restriction. This study investigated which cross-sectional slice location of AT is most strongly correlated with changes in CVD risk factors after caloric restriction in obese Korean women. Thirty-three obese pre-menopausal Korean women (32.4 ± 8.5 yrs, BMI 27.1 ± 2.3 kg/m2) participated in a 12 weeks caloric restriction program. Subcutaneous adipose tissue (SAT) and visceral adipose tissue (VAT) were measured using computed tomography (CT) scans at the sites of L2-L3, L3-L4, and L4-L5. Fasting serum levels of glucose, insulin, triglyceride, total cholesterol (TC), low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C), leptin and homeostasis model assessment-insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) were observed. Pearson’s partial correlation coefficients were used to assess the relationship between AT measurement sites and changes in CVD risk factors after calorie restriction. When calories were reduced by 350 kcal/day for 12 weeks, body weight (-2.7%), body fat mass (-8.2%), and waist circumference (-5.8%) all decreased (P < 0.05). In addition, following caloric restriction, serum levels of glucose (-4.6%), TC (-6.2%), LDL-C (-5.3%), leptin (-17.6%) and HOMA-IR (-18.2%) decreased significantly (P < 0.05) as well. Changes in VAT at the level of L3-L4 were significantly greater than those at other abdominal sites, and these changes were correlated with changes in TC (P < 0.05), LDL-C (P < 0.001), SBP (P < 0.001) and HOMA-IR (P < 0.01). These results show that VAT at L3-L4 had a stronger correlation with CVD risk factors than with other AT measurement sites after caloric restriction.

        The purpose of our work is to developing the program of math. camp to improve underachiever's mathematical disposition. To do this, the following research were taken; (1) Analysis of current status of programs for underachievers (2) Analysis of inclination to mathematics(We collected the data from 2 classes of middle schools) (3) Prepare and apply the program of math. camp for the students including underachievers, and then analysis the effect of the math. camp The results of this study is as follows; (1) Only 40% of investigated schools have their own programs for underachivers. But almost all general high schools do not have such programs because students do not want. More than half of the investigated teachers suggested that the most important thing for underachivers is the induction of motivation for mathematics. (2) Many students dislike mathematics from 5~6 grade of elementary school, and more than 50% of students think that 'measure' and 'equations' items are difficult. (3) After attending the math. camp based on the games and activities in small groups, the students in the middle-ranking group showed more positive reactions against the items of mathematical disposition and attitude tests. The students in the row-ranking group were improved in the 'self-confidence' and 'will' items of mathematical disposition test and in the 'superiority' and 'interest' items of mathematical attitude test.

        망간흄에 노출된 용접근로자의 뇌자기공명영상과 신경학적 소견의 관련성

        This study was carried out to investigate the relationship between brain magnetic resonance imaging(MRI) and neurological findings in welders exposed to manganese fume. Thirty five welders from a bus manufacturing factory who were occupationally exposed to low dose manganese fume were examined. We collected the information on the demographic factors and welding careers. Laboratory investigations included blood and urine manganese concentration and blood chemistry. Brain MRI was checked, and high signal intensity of the globus pallidus was graded from 0 to 3 compared to the white matter of the frontal lobe. Neurologic examination was carried out. The results were as follows; 1. The mean age of workers 48.3±5.7 years, mean duration of welding was 21.4±5.6 years. 2. On brain MRI, high signal intensity in the globus pallidus was observed in 27 workers(77.1%). Among them, 18 cases(66.7%) showed remarkedly high signal intensity(grade 2). Mean concentration of blood manganese was higher in those with high signal intensity and correlated to the grade of high signal intensity(p=0.02). 3. On neurologic examination, no workers showed the finding of typical parkinsonism. But 11 workers(31.4%) showed subtle neurological abnormalities such as gait without associated arm movement, postural instability, intention tremor, and so on. Blood manganese concentration of neurologically abnormal group was 2.4±0.7 μg/dL, which was significantly higher, compared to 1.8±0.7μg/dL of neurologically normal group(p=0.03). 4. Among 27 workers who showed high signal intensity on brain MRI, 10 workers(37%) were neurologically abnormal. Higher grade of signal intensity on globus pallidus showed higher rate of neorologic abnormality(p<0.05). Especially postural instability and gait without associated arm movement were prominent findings. These findings suggest that high signal intensity on brain MRI might be associated with a prodromal sign of manganese intoxication. Careful neurologic examination should be followed up on welders showing high signal intensity in the golbus pallidus of brain MRI.
