        Seroprevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies during the third wave of COVID-19 in the Seoul metropolitan area of Korea

        OBJECTIVES: After the third wave of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) , by mid-February 2021, approximately 0.16% of the Korean population was confirmed positive, which appeared to be among the lowest rates worldwide at that time. However, asymptomatic transmission is challenging for COVID-19 surveillance. Therefore, a community-based serosurvey of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection was conducted to understand the effectiveness of Korea’s strong containment strategy. METHODS: We collected 5,002 residual sera samples from January 30 to March 3, 2021, from 265 medical facilities in Seoul, 346 in Gyeonggi Province, and 57 in Incheon. Sixty samples from tertiary institutions were excluded. We defined the sub-regions according to the addresses of the medical facilities where the specimens were collected. Elecsys Anti-SARS-CoV-2 was used for screening, and positivity was confirmed using the SARS-CoV-2 sVNT Kit. Prevalence was estimated using sampling weights and the Wilson score interval for a binomial proportion with a 95% confidence interval. RESULTS: Among the 4,942 specimens, 32 and 25 tested positive for COVID-19 in the screening and confirmatory tests, respectively. The overall crude prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 antibodies was 0.51%. The population-adjusted overall prevalence was 0.55% in women and 0.38% in men. The region-specific estimation was 0.67% and 0.30% in Gyeonggi Province and Seoul, respectively. No positive cases were detected in Incheon. CONCLUSIONS: The proportion of undetected cases in Korea remained low as of early 2021 . Therefore, an infection control strategy with exhaustive tracing and widespread pre-emptive testing appears to be effective in containing community spread of COVID-19.

        비강 내 호산구 수와 호산구 비율의 상관관계 및 진단의 유용성

        Purpose: Allergic rhinitis is the most common atopic disease and the most common chronic disease of children. Eosinophil count and percentage in nasal smear are useful for differential diagnosis of allergic rhinitis. The aim of this study is to investigate the correlation between nasal eosinophil count and percentage. Methods: Between January 2017 and August 2018, 221 children patients with a clinical history of rhinitis were tested at the outpatient respiratory and allergy unit of the Department of Pediatrics, School of Medicine, The Catholic University of Korea. Nasal secretion was collected by swabbing a children's nasal inferior turbinate 3–4 times with a cotton swab and then placed on to a glass slide. Later, the smear was stained by Giemsa stain. Results: This is the first study to assess the comparison of nasal eosinophil count and percent. There is a positive correlation between nasal eosinophil count and percent Y=1.02 X+2.82 (Y=Eosinophil count, X=Eosinophil percentage). To determine the usefulness of nasal eosinophil count and percentage in the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis, we analyzed receiver operating characteristic curves. The cutoff value of the nasal eosinophil count was 6.5/high-power field, and that of the nasal eosinophil ratio was 3% for the diagnosis of allergic rhinitis. Conclusion: In patients with suspected rhinitis, one of the values of nasal eosinophil count or percentage can be used in clinical practice. .

        Clarithromycin-Based Standard Triple Therapy Can Still Be Effective for Helicobacter pylori Eradication in Some Parts of the Korea

        We evaluated the antibiotic resistance rates and eradication rates of clarithromycin basedtriple therapy from 2005 to 2010 retrospectively. In addition, we investigated themechanism of clarithromycin resistance in Helicobacter pylori strains isolated from Koreanpatients. Two hundred and twelve strains of H. pylori were isolated from 204 patients. H. pylori ATCC 43504 was used as the standard strain. The eradication rates of H. pylori from2005 to 2010 were 89.3%, 82.6%, 86.3%, 87.7%, 81.8%, and 84.2%, respectively. Totaleradication rate was 84.9%. DNA sequences of the 23S RNA gene in clarithromycinresistantstrains were determined. The resistance rates of H. pylori to amoxicillin,clarithromycin, metronidazole, tetracycline, ciprofloxacin, moxifloxacin, and levofloxacinwere 9.0%, 8.5%, 36.3%, 0%, 14.2%, 14.2%, and 14.2%, respectively. The multidrugresistance rate of H. pylori was 16.5%. Sequence analysis of clarithromycin-resistantstrains showed an A2144G mutation in 8 of 14 strains (57.1%), a T2183C mutation in 5 of14 strains (35.7%), and double mutations of both A2144G and T2183C in 1 of 14 strains(7.1%). In the present study, triple therapy may still be an effective eradication therapy forH. pylori infections in Korea. The A2144G and T2183C mutations are mainly present inclarithromycin-resistant isolates.

As a means solving the problem, we researched into 'Rainwater Harvesting' thoroughly. We investigated the good cases in the inside and outside of the country. Through analyzing the dormitory of S university, we suggest the value of the rainwater utilization system in Apartment House.

      • 한강변 아파트의 환경색채 개선방안 연구

        용산구는 한강수변에 위치한 환경적 이점을 가지고 있으며 남산의 중요한 조망축에 위치하고 있다. 하지만 이러한 우수한 경관조건에도 불구하고 이촌 지구의 특징이 고려되지 않고 개발되었다. 환경색채의 적용은 건물 입면계획에 의해 경관특성을 고려하여 이루어져야한다. 이에 따라 서울의 이촌동에 위치한 거주지역의 환경색채의 현황을 분석하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 2000년대 전 후에 개발된 주거지역의 경관을 분석하고 환경색채계획을 제안하는 데에 있다. 조사된 건물의 구조와 색의 현황을 파악하기 위해 2013년 5월 현장 측정이 이루어졌으며 색채 현황은 IRI색채연구소에서 개발한 색채이미지스케일에 의해 평가되었다. 그동안 건설사들은 주변 환경에 대한 충분한 고려 없이 브랜드를 대표하는 색채를 내세우거나 현대적 감각을 강조하기 위한 어두운 톤의 색채를 사용해왔다. 본 연구에서는 건물에의 적절한 색채계획을 위해 용산구 디자인가이드라인에서 제시하는 권장 60색을 이용하여 각각의 배색 안을 제안하였다. 이에 따라 Blue와 Green계열의 색상을 적절히 사용하되 톤의 변화는 적게 하여 쾌적하고 자연의 색에 가까운 색감을 띌 수 있도록 하였다. 이러한 색채를 제안하여 남산의 조망권이자 수변지역으로서 이촌 지구의 특성을 잘 보여줄 수 있도록 주변의 녹지와 한강을 잇는 중간 지점으로서 각각의 환경과 연계성을 가질 수 있도록 제안하고자 하였다. As Yongsan district is one of the most important axis of view to Namsan and has environmental benefits with waterfront near the Han River, it is not featured in the distinctive perceptions against urban landscape. The application of environmental color must be considered to prove the superiority of the landscape with realignment of the building facade plans. Therefore, it analyzed the current usages of the environmental color on the residential areas in Ichon dong in Seoul. This study is to suggest the environmental color plan with the analysis of landscape of residential areas built in the 2000s before and after. In order to understand the current state of the color and structure of the building surveyed, the color measurement of photography scene took place in May 2013 and the color image scale which produced by IRI color laboratory was evaluated. Construction companies developed the buildings with using the color of the dark tone to emphasize the modern. Thus, color planning has not been applied properly in the building, as there is a design guideline of Yongsan and the one of Seoul city. Blue and Green colors are used properly, but the changes of tones are less varied to suggest natural and harmonious colors. Therefore, the suggested colors show the characteristics of Ichon-dong as an view of Namsan and waterfront area connecting to green track of land and Han river.

        물리화학적 방법에 의한 Microcrystalline Chitin 제조

        Microcrystalline chitin(MCC) was produced by a physicochemical method from chitin which was isolated from crab shell waste. The molecular weights of chitin were 230,000 ~ 320,000 depending [m the method of protein removal. MCC was produced by using dilute hydrochloric acid with ultrasound and hydrogen peroxide. The major parameters for this process were found to be acid concentration, swelling time and temperature, and irradiation time and frequency of ultrasound. The effaces of these parameters on MCC molecular weight were investigated. The molecular weight of MCC produced at a typical condition was amend 30,000 which was approximately 1/8 of that of chitin. Ultrasound irradiation in this process was found to be an essential step to make MCC gelatinize and microcrystallize.
