        A Method for Tree Image Segmentation Combined Adaptive Mean Shifting with Image Abstraction

        Although huge progress has been made in current image segmentation work, there are still no efficient segmentation strategies for tree image which is taken from natural environment and contains complex background. To improve those problems, we propose a method for tree image segmentation combining adaptive mean shifting with image abstraction. Our approach perform better than others because it focuses mainly on the background of image and characteristics of the tree itself. First, we abstract the original tree image using bilateral filtering and image pyramid from multiple perspectives, which can reduce the influence of the background and tree canopy gaps on clustering. Spatial location and gray scale features are obtained by step detection and the insertion rule method, respectively. Bandwidths calculated by spatial location and gray scale features are then used to determine the size of the Gaussian kernel function and in the mean shift clustering. Furthermore, the flood fill method is employed to fill the results of clustering and highlight the region of interest. To prove the effectiveness of tree image abstractions on image clustering, we compared different abstraction levels and achieved the optimal clustering results. For our algorithm, the average segmentation accuracy (SA), over-segmentation rate (OR), and under-segmentation rate (UR) of the crown are 91.21%, 3.54%, and 9.85%, respectively. The average values of the trunk are 92.78%, 8.16%, and 7.93%, respectively. Comparing the results of our method experimentally with other popular tree image segmentation methods, our segmentation method get rid of human interaction and shows higher SA. Meanwhile, this work shows a promising application prospect on visual reconstruction and factors measurement of tree.

        Effects of different culture systems on the culture of buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) spermatogonia stem cell-like cells in vitro

        Currently, the systems for culturing buffalo spermatogonial stem cells (SSCs) in vitro are varied, and their effects are still inconclusive. In this study, we compared the effects of culture systems with undefined (foetal bovine serum) and defined (KnockOut Serum Replacement) materials on the in vitro culture of buffalo SSC-like cells. Significantly more DDX4- and UCHL1-positive cells (cultured for 2 days at passage 2) were observed in the defined materials culture system than in the undefined materials system (p < 0.01), and these cells were maintained for a longer period than those in the culture system with undefined materials (10 days vs. 6 days). Furthermore, NANOS2 (p < 0.05), DDX4 (p < 0.01) and UCHL1 (p < 0.05) were expressed at significantly higher levels in the culture system with defined materials than in that with undefined materials. Induction with retinoic acid was used to verify that the cultured cells maintained SSC characteristics, revealing an SCP3+ subset in the cells cultured in the defined materials system. The expression levels of Stra8 (p < 0.05) and Rec8 (p < 0.01) were significantly increased, and the expression levels of ZBTB16 (p < 0.01) and DDX4 (p < 0.05) were significantly decreased. These findings provided a clearer research platform for exploring the mechanism of buffalo SSCs in vitro.

        In this paper, a new simple approach has been developed for the preparation of α-Fe2O3 microspheres by a facile hydrothermal method using PVP as a surfactant. Uniform α-Fe2O3 microspheres could be routinely synthesized through solvothermal approach by controlling the PVP/FeCl3⋅6H2O ratio. The as-obtained α-Fe2O3 microspheres exhibit high efficiency on the decolorization of RhB aqueous solution in the presence of H2O2 at room temperature.

        Whole Cell-mediated Biocatalytic Synthesis of Helicid Cinnamylate and Its Biological Evaluation as a Novel Tyrosinase Inhibitor

        Tyrosinase inhibitors are clinically effective for treating some dermatological disorders related to melanin hyperpigmentation. Accordingly, the discovery and development of tyrosinase inhibitors have great value in the pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. Here, a novel tyrosinase inhibitor, 6′-O-cinnamoyl-helicid (helicid cinnamylate) was successfully synthesized by a simple and effective biocatalytic approach with Aspergillus oryzae cells. Investigation of the effects of several key variables on helicid cinnamylate synthesis found that the reaction conversion, reaction rate and regioselectivity reached 99%, 9.40 mM/h and > 99%, respectively, at the optimal conditions with anhydrous acetone as the solvent, whole-cell concentration of 40 mg/mL, and the molar ratio of vinyl cinnamate to helicid of 10 at 45°C. The whole-cells retained 68.87% of its initial activity after reusing for seven batches, indicating a potent application potential in non-aqueous biocatalytic systems. It was worth noting that helicid cinnamylate demonstrated a more potent tyrosinase inhibitory activity with an IC50 value of 3.55 mM than helicid (IC50 = 4.48 mM) and arbutin (IC50 = 5.48 mM), which suggest that helicid cinnamylate could be developed as a more potential tyrosinase inhibitor. In conclusion, this study provides a novel whole-cell catalytic approach for the synthesis of helicid cinnamylate and insight into its application as a tyrosinase inhibitor.

      • Imbalanced Data Classification Based on AdaBoost-SVM

        The classification of imbalanced data is one of the most challenging problems in data mining and machine learning research. Imbalanced dataset is a form that exists in reality area, which describes truly and objectively the essential characters of something. There will appear paucity of data and flooded in the classification of imbalanced dataset. Beside problems such as loss of information and data splitting phenomenon will also appear when using the traditional machine learning methods. So how to solve the classification problem of imbalanced data will be challenging. In this paper, aiming at the above problems, a classification algorithm based on AdaBoost-SVM is proposed. In the experiments with four typical forms of imbalanced data sets in UCI were validated the effectiveness of this strategy.

        An Exploratory Study on Chinese Females’ Social Media Self-Presentation: A Case Study of WeChat

        Based on Goffman’s dramaturgical theory and self-objectification framework, this study examined: 1) Chinese female’s WeChat self-presentation, 2) the impact of WeChat usage on female self-objectification, and 3) the impact of self-objectification on WeChat self-presentation tactics. An online survey was conducted. The main findings include: 1) most of the participants chose to beautify their pictures and videos before they posted them, 2) the respondents attached higher importance to appearance-based body attributes than competence-based ones, 3) the most frequently applied self-presentation tactic was ingratiation, 4) WeChat usage was not a predictor of Chinese women’s self-objectification, and, 5) along with extroversion, self-objectification had an impact on ingratiation, supplication, self-promotion, and exemplification. Meanwhile, use of the electronic curtain and audience sifting to control who can see a post and for how long demonstrated the empowerment of the users when they conduct self-presentation.

        An Effect of Conformity Psychology on the Advertisement Effectiveness

As a consumer, sometimes we are interested in what somebody else is using, and sometimes we cannot help trying a kind of new drink when we found many of people around are drinking it. In this paper, conformity psychology’s effect in the advertisement will be checked in the hope of helping improve the advertisement effectiveness.

        The Impact of International Students’ Chinese Social Media Literacy on Mandarin Learning Motivation: Mediated by Second Language Motivational Self System

        Dornyei의 제2언어 동기화 시스템(L2MSS)에 따르면 제2언어의 획득은 학습 과정 일뿐만 아니라 심리적 과정이며 학습자의 자기 정체성과 관련이 있다는 것을 보여준다. 이 연구는 제2언어 동기화 시스템에 기초하여, 재중 유학생들의 소셜 미디어 능력이 그들의 중국어 학습 동기에 미치는 영향을 조사했다(N = 178). 분석결과, 유학생들의 소셜 미디어 교육은 중국어 학습 동기를 나타내는 중요한 지표 중 하나로 확인되었다. 소셜 미디어 리터러시의 향상은 L2MSS의 메커니즘을 통해 만다린 학습 동기를 향상시킬 수 있다는 것이 증명되었다. 제2언어 동기화 시스템에 영향을 미치는 유의미한 변수로 소셜 미디어 리터러시 수준(M = 2.97, SD = .63), L2MSS 수준(M = 3.68, SD = .63) 및 중국어 학습 동기 부여 수준(M = 3.88, SD = .70)이 확인되었다. 그리고 제2언어 동기화 시스템을 통해 소셜 미디어 리터러시가 중국어 만다린 학습 동기에 미치는 영향을 확인했다(p < 0.05). 또한 Dornyei의 제2언어 동기화 시스템(L2MSS)에 따르면 제2언어 획득이 학습 과정 일뿐만 아니라 심리적 과정이며 학습자의 자기 정체성과 관련되어 있음을 보여준다. 제2언어 동기화 시스템(L2MSS)상태가 양호하면보다 적극적인 학습 태도, 동기 부여 행동 및 학습 전략으로 이어질 수 있다. 제2언어 동기화 시스템(L2MSS) 만중국어 학습 동기 부여에 대한 강력한 설명 능력을 가지고 있습니다(R² = .472, p < 0.01). 따라서 유학생의 중국어 학습 동기를 향상시키기 위해서는 소셜 미디어 리터러시가 중요한 척도이다. 또한 유학생들이 소셜 미디어 능력, 특히 미디어 접촉 능력 (M = 2.46, SD = .822)을 개발하는 것이 중요하다. Dornyei’s second language motivational self-system (L2MSS) illustrates second language acquisition is not only a learning process, but also a psychological one and is associated with learners’ self-identity. Basing on theory of the second language motivational self system (L2MSS) and media literacy, the present study investigated Chinese international students’ (N=178) Chinese social media literacy level (M=2.97, SD=.63), second language motivational self system (L2MSS) level (M=3.68, SD=.63) and Mandarin-learning motivation level (M=3.88, SD=.70). This study also examined the impact of international students’ social media literacy on their mandarin learning motivation. H¹ (Social media literacy is one indicator of international students’ Mandarin learning motivation), H² (Social media literacy of international students is one indicator of theirsecond languagemotivational self-system) and H³ (International students’second languagemotivational self-systemlevel is one indicator of their Mandarin learning motivation) were proposed and tested. All three hypothesis were accepted via regression analysis. Thus, the present study 1) confirmed the impact of social media literacy on Mandarin learning motivation via the mechanism of second language motivational self-system (L2MSS) (p < 0.05); 2) expanded explanatory power of second language motivational self system (L2MSS) to Mandarin learning.

      • Design and estimation of a sensing attitude algorithm for AUV self-rescue system

        This research is based on the concept of safety airbag to design a self-rescue system for the autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV) using micro inertial sensing module. To reduce the possibility of losing the underwater vehicle and the difficulty of searching and rescuing, when the AUV self-rescue system (ASRS) detects that the AUV is crashing or encountering a serious collision, it can pump carbon dioxide into the airbag immediately to make the vehicle surface. ASRS consists of 10-DOF sensing module, sensing attitude algorithm and air-pumping mechanism. The attitude sensing modules are a nine-axis micro-inertial sensor and a barometer. The sensing attitude algorithm is designed to estimate failure attitude of AUV properly using sensor calibration and extended Kalman filter (SCEKF), feature extraction and backpropagation network (BPN) classify. SCEKF is proposed to be used subsequently to calibrate and fuse the data from the micro-inertial sensors. Feature extraction and BPN training algorithms for classification are used to determine the activity malfunction of AUV. When the accident of AUV occurred, the ASRS will immediately be initiated; the airbag is soon filled, and the AUV will surface due to the buoyancy. In the future, ASRS will be developed successfully to solve the problems such as the high losing rate and the high difficulty of the rescuing mission of AUV.
