Despite ionizing radiation (IR) is being widely used as a standard treatment for lung cancer, many evidences suggest that IR paradoxically promotes cancer malignancy. However, its molecular mechanisms underlying radiation-induced cancer progression remain obscure. Here, we report that exposure to fractionated radiation (2 Gy per day for 3 days) induces the secretion of granulocyte-colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF) that has been commonly used in cancer therapies to ameliorate neutropenia. Intriguingly, radiation-induced G-CSF promoted the migratory and invasive properties by triggering the epithelial–mesenchymal cell transition (EMT) in non-small-cell lung cancer cells (NSCLCs). By irradiation, G-CSF was upregulated transcriptionally by β-catenin/TCF4 complex that binds to the promoter region of G-CSF as a transcription factor. Importantly, irradiation increased the stability of β-catenin through the activation of PI3K/AKT (phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase/AKT), thereby upregulating the expression of G-CSF. Radiation-induced G-CSF is recognized by G-CSFR and transduced its intracellular signaling JAK/STAT3 (Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription), thereby triggering EMT program in NSCLCs. Taken together, our findings suggest that the application of G-CSF in cancer therapies to ameliorate neutropenia should be reconsidered owing to its effect on cancer progression, and G-CSF could be a novel therapeutic target to mitigate the harmful effect of radiotherapy for the treatment of NSCLC.

The combination of the acid-alkali method and eletrophoresis for X-and Y-sperm separation of boar semen was performed We used lactic acid and sodium bicarbonate in acid-alkali method, and electrophoresed at 2.5V and 200 μA. The results obtained were summarized as follows : 1. The frequency of appearance of B-body from alkali treatment of whole semen was significantly higher than that from acid treatment. 2. The frequency of appearance of B-body from alkali treatment at the anode electrode was significantly higher compared with that from acid treatment at the same electrode, while that from acid treatment at the cathode was slightly higher than that from alkali treatment at the same electrode. 3. According to time of treatment, Appearance of B-body from alkali treatment at the anode after electrophonesis was decreased, and the result from acid treatment at the same condition was the opposite, while appearance of B-body from alkali treatment at the cathode after electrophoresis was not changed and that from acid treatment at the same condition was increased. 4. Appearance of B-body from alkali treatment at the anode for 5-10minutes showed the most useful result which was higher than the result (51.9%) from electrophoresis alone by 3 %.

This study was carried to analyze the demonstrational cultivation process of selenium supplemented P. linteus and G. lucidum from 2005 to 2006 and ifs effect at Hochimin Agricultural Technology College(HATC) in Vietnam, according to the mutual contract between the Yunjung-nongwon, a fanning company in Korea and HATC. As a result of the demonstrational cultivation of selenium supplemented P. linteus and G. lucidum, the external aspect, such as size, thickness and color of the P. linteus and G. lucidum were very much high qualified comparing to the same strain P. linteus and G. lucidum generally cultivated in Korea. The major contribution factors to this high qualified mushroom product could be drawn as followings; keeping growing condition of the mushroom with precise data collection of Vietnam climate and weather, involvement of the various professors of Korea National Agricultural College(KNAC), maintenance of bio-technical security through the strain cultivation on the oak log in Korea, the Yunjung-nongwon manager's endeavor being consulted by the various professors of KNAC even to be a student of the agricultural chief executive officer(CEO) training course in KNAC and the HATC's constant cooperation to the mushroom demonstrational cultivation instead of the orchid which was originally contracted item.
